I Hate Snakes | WithoutWax.tv by Pete Wilson

I Hate Snakes

I’m so happy it’s Spring! I like almost everything that comes along with Spring including warmer weather, grilling out again, flowers, my garden, the smell of fresh cut grass and I could go on and on.

However, there is one thing that comes along with Spring I hate. It’s snakes. I hate snakes. I hate them with a passion. Almost every spring there are several garden snakes making a home in my shed out back. I’ve killed at least one each year we’ve lived in this house.

I found this video yesterday and couldn’t stop laughing (do not watch this with any liquids in your mouth). This guy feels about lizards the way I feel about snakes! I’m not kidding you…I freak out.

What animal/creature/insect just freaks you out?

Pete- you’re such a girl! Haven’t you read WILD AT HEART?

I respond the same way this guy in the video does(to snakes) but it can be a mouse, a bug, spider, all rodents, etc.

    Just teasing.

Geckos. Ew! We had two that lived in the porch light over our front door. If I came home to find them hanging out over my head I wouldn’t unlock the door – I’d ring the bell, step back and wait for my hubby to open the door and then quickly dash into the house. He would laugh at me and tell me I was silly for thinking that they would drop on my head. Until one of them dropped on his head!!!!!!

I am with you bro. Hate ‘em… even the dead ones freak me out. One time a snake got bailed up in a hay bail with its head and 6 inches of its body hanging out still alive! Its was pretty mad. So I carefully placed it in the hay elevator to freak out my co-farm-hand who also hated snakes with a passion. I can’t print what transpired ..

ME TOO! I absolutely detest snakes and since we’ve moved to Florida, they are in our house ALL THE TIME!

Thankfully, the cats flush them out so you know when they are in the house, otherwise, I’d never go to sleep for fear one was under the bed…

Mostly rodents of any kind freak me out. When I was living in New York, I had entire families of mice in my apartment… they lived to torment me! They were bold and didn’t even bother hiding from me….ewww, still freaks me out to think about it.

Snakes, particularly the one that got caught in my bike spokes on the trail a couple summers ago. It flopped and flopped until I pedaled so hard it flew into several pieces. Ugh. I get sick thinking about it.

Rubber balloons also creep me out. And they don’t even have a heartbeat.

I think you know how I feel about frogs (involuntary shudder). I’m with Andi on the geckoes – especially the ones that are see-through with brown spots — straight outta hell, I tell ya! Add to my horror when my cat plays with them, so I find pieces of them around my house, or worse — mutilated but still crawling around. Okay, I’m grossing myself out. Also – clowns, mimes, blue man group and female TBN hostesses with gianormous hair. Pretty much anyone whose natural skin color is completely obscured.

Bummer that I didn’t know about your fear of snakes before Off the Blogs, though…

    I love that video!

I love all animals, reptiles and insects. I’m one of those catching spiders in a tupperware vegetarian types.
    I do kill mosquitos.

The only animals that freak me out are dead ones.. especially if they’ve been disfigured in some way- like when my cat brings me a present of a headless squirrel.
One of my first jobs was at a pet shop and I’d have to scoop out dead fish (yuk) or dead hamsters after the other hamsters ate them all night. I didn’t last long at that job.

I am afraid of rodents. That includes squirrels. I consider squirrels to be bushy tailed rats with a spring in their step! Plus, they can climb! Kinda like snakes…..

  31. Tony York March 25, 2009 at 8:23 am #

I forgot to answer the question:

I think context is important. I can’t think of an animal that I have a phobia about but while I think a grizzly bear behind bars is cute and cuddly, I don’t want him breathing sweet nothings in my ear while on a camping trip in Alaska. Just as I don’t mind handling snakes but I really don’t want them to bite me, poisonous or not.

Eww, just thought of something. I don’t think I would care for that fly that lays its eggs under your skin. Those maggots are gross as they poke their big heads out of a hole in your skin to breathe. That’s just plain nasty.

Cicadas! And we live in an old neighborhood on a heavily wooded lot, so several years ago when it was 17-year-cicada time, it was like a living nightmare here in Cincinnati, Ohio for me. The shells were lying in heaps around the base of every tree in our yard, and the noise of their call was so loud you just could not escape it. I couldn’t even bring myself to go outside to get the mail–seriously. And I insisted we have a garage door opener installed that year, because there was no way I was getting out of the car to lift the door with cicadas flying all over creation. I was pretty insane about it, admittedly, but still!

Okay, I have to chime in….
I am not fond of BEE’s….I am not allergic, just no love for bee’s. It could be because as I child bee’s liked to torment me….there was the time I had bee fly into my hair and I put my hand through my hair and it stung me. Or it could be the time that I was on the playground at school and fell back on a rotten apple on the ground that had some bee’s hanging around and it stung my hand (bee and stinger intact in my palm). Or it could be the time that I was mowing my grass in college that there was a nest in the ground and I disturbed it just a bit. Or it could be the many times in elementary school that the windows in the class would be open and the bee’s decided they liked my desk area…. Or maybe it was the Killer Bee movie that I saw in the 80s that freaked me out…

Yeah….those could be just a few reasons.

    S.

PS. I did see the Bee Movie…which was great. So maybe I don’t hate them as much I think….hmmm!
