So Close to Spring

Someone once asked me what my favorite season was. I responded “which ever one is next”. That’s partially true. I love living somewhere where we get to experience all four seasons and I’ve learned to appreciate each one the seasons and the unique attributes they display.

Having said that though, I still think Spring is my favorite. Or maybe it’s that Winter is my least favorite which makes me long for Spring. Not sure, but what I am sure of is we’re very close to Spring here in Nashville and I can’t wait.

So what’s your favorite season?

My backyard is proof we’re on the verge of Spring…

Fall, for sure…the temps, the colors; and, it is the season when Joy and I got married ;)

My favorite season to LIVE in is definitely summer! But, that being said, I LOVE to visit places during spring and fall. The smells of fall make me nostalgic, and the colors of spring make me joyful. The only time I really like winter is on Christmas day, if I’m visiting my family and enjoying it from inside… next to a warm, crackling fire! hehehehe.

Yes, I will have to say living in a place where you have four very different seasons is an awesome to be. To me each season symbolizes how God works in our life. Spring is new growth, Summer brings maturity, Fall the pruning, and Winter means rest.

Ater living on the West Coast for 10 years and living in 118 degrees in the summer, I would say I love Spring as it is refreshing, Fall is next with the smell of burning leaves, beautiful colors, not to cold, Summer is 3rd, warm weather, the beach, lounging with some sweet tea and a good book, Winter least..I hate cold feet an hands.

I have a love affair with Summer but I am pretty sure the anticipation of all of the seasons is what I look forward to the most. Like “Oh, I can’t wait to bundle up next to the fire…” or “Yay! Flip flops and flowers!!” They are all so amazing in their glory I think.

Great pics! You are getting good with that camera! I have a couple on my blog that I took this week, as well. Hurry up, Spring! My favorite season is Fall, though. LOVE this area in the Fall, loved it in Maine last year even better. Sigh…

I have chosen to not complain about any season or type of weather. I have no control over it anyway but I can control my attitude. That being said…I love summer. I like it hot. I like being able to ride my bicycle and not worry about all the clothes I have to put on to stay warm. I like to sweat and I like the feeling after a ride of cooling down and getting a refreshing shower. I like climbing hills and having sweat pour down my face. And I love that my two favorite sports are going on…cycling and baseball. BTW: I had to do a double take at your first picture. It looked like it was around here last June after the flood. Surrounded by water. Family looks good and the boys look ornery.

Oh, I could not pick just one!!! Living in the deep south, I would have to admit that the the humid summers are my least favorite, although being able to swim (which is my fave outdoor activity) is a plus, having 70 degree nights is just crazy.
That’s when I long for my California summers, hot days and cool nights, oh what the Pacific can do for your soul.
Ofcourse, right now I am preparing my summer garden, and I have to say that gardening makes the summer tolerable…to eat food of your own labor is amazing.

I could go on and on about all the attributes of winter, autumn and sping….but the laundry is calling my name…too bad it NEVER goes out of season!!!

I like winter, simply because I’m a Christmas junky. Otherwise, I prefer fall(football).

On a spiritual note, I’ve come to appreciate and honor the “night season”, for it is there that I’ve learned the true nature of God’s love and forgiveness. If we never went through the trials of life, we wouldn’t realize how desperately we need Him in all seasons.

The old hymn says it best, “Some through the waters, some through the flood, some through the fire, but all through the blood. Some through the sorrow, but God gives a song, in the night season and all the day long.”

    I’ll quit preachin’ now. lol

Fall is my favorite. I love everything about it!!

Also, i LOVE that last picture with the white flowers. I probably would buy that if you sold it. :) I kind of have a fixation with taking pictures of flowers. Always have.

I think it depends on where you live. Growing up in Minnesota, where there’s really only two seasons (a really, really long, bitterly cold winter and an ity-bity, short, summer), I LOVED the summer. Then, I moved to Arizona. All I’ll say is, summer is a whole different ballgame there! Moved to Nashville a couple months ago and I think I may enjoy all the seasons here. A winter with snow but doesn’t get 40 below wind chills? I didn’t think there was such a place! I feel kind of like Goldie Locks…. this state’s too cold, this state’s too hot….but this state is juuuuuuust right!

  17. Pete Wilson March 14, 2009 at 8:58 am #

@Tommy Sircy, I will admit that fall is a very close second for me. Football, cooler temps, and more football. Can’t go wrong there.

  18. Melissa March 14, 2009 at 9:00 am #

Fall is my favorite season. I love the changing of the leaves, the crisp air, and all the smells that come with it. The only thing I don’t like about it is that winter comes right after it. Although I hate cold, I’m with you that I need to live somewhere that has all four seasons. Without winter, there would be no spring or fall. I live near Chicago so our winters are probably a little more brutal than yours. Wish we had beautiful flowers blooming, hopefully soon! I was just thinking the other day, how amazing it is that God has planned each climate and season in each part of this world and how they all work together so that different parts of the country/world can grow different plants, fruits, vegetables. What an amazing God we have! Just to think that he is in control of all of that just blows my mind!!!!

In Vegas we joke that we get 2 weeks of Spring and 2 weeks of Fall. That really isn’t far from the truth. I love them both for the same reason. Spring is our little bit of loveliness before that crazy temps show up. And Fall is full of relief once the temps finally get below 100. They are both purely wonderful.

Bravo on the pics. The 3rd one is awesome.
I would have to say that “late” spring and fall are are my favorites… and by late spring I mean late April, early May.

March and early April are so stinking rainy and and everything is a soaking wet.

Considering that there are only 2 seasons in Houston — hot and humid and cold and humid, I’m really not digging either one of them. But I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else this side of heaven. Texan till the day I die!

Summer is my favorite season. Warm beach weather and all the fresh summer fruits. It’s fun to be able to take a walk late at night in shorts and a tank top and be comfortable. I do much better in hot weather than cold. Cold temperatures make me unmotivated and cranky. Spring is my 2nd favorite because I love the beautiful flowers and new growth… and it means summer is on the way!

I like whatever season you get your camera out. ;) Great Pics!

I think I always liked Spring and Fall the most because of being on the farm. There is something so hopeful and fresh about tilling the dirt and planting the corn/beans. It’s such a distinct smell, overturned earth. Dad being excited about planning it all … what new system he had concocted to fight the weeds.

But in the fall, the crisp air, riding with Dad in the combine to harvest the crops… those were always where our best conversations took place. We’d have a hog roast sometimes for the neighbors, which was always fun.

Yep. Growing up on a farm really shaped my favorites.

    My favorite season is spring.

Summer = CRAZY hot here in Texas. Me no likey.

Fall = Sickness. My kids always seem to get sick in the fall

    Winter = What’s that?

  35. Autumn is my favorite! Just cool enough for a sweater in the evenings and the beautiful colors on the trees.

Plus, can’t forget the smells of pumpkin spice, lattes, just baked apple pie … YUM!

My favorite season is fall. It always brings the perfect football weather and this is the least likely time for tornadoes, which happen quite often here in Missouri.

When I move to Germany it is going to be summer because it stays fairly cool there most of the time. Summer would be the warmest cool.

    Summer.

And by ‘summer’ I mean the season that lasts a few days-1 week in Scotland. If the temperaure reaches about 18 C (32 F) that’s cause for wearing a bikini and sunbathing all day long.

    You think I’m kidding?!?!

But I love the sunshine. the only thing I could do without in summer is the bees and wasps which try to sting you and fly out you while you’re outside eating a picnic/BBQ. Or when you get in your car that’s been in the sun and it’s like a sauna and you burn your hand on the steering wheel. Small prices to pay though.

Autumn is by far my favorite season! The weather is just perfect and the changing colors are beautiful. It’s the best time to go hiking too… though I do miss having the mountains only 15min away now. If I could find somewhere that had fall year round, I would so move there! Winter would probably be my second fave.. there is just something refreshing about the cold, crisp air in the mornings.
