The Big Game

Jett Wilson depressed over the end of football season

I heard this morning 75% of Americans say they’re planning on watching the Superbowl tomorrow night. That’s impressive. I’m not sure whether to be excited about the Superbowl or depressed it signifies the end of yet another football season.

Jett said last weekend. “I can’t believe we have football for like 6 months and then all of the sudden it’s just over. Why do they do that to us Dad? It’s just not fair. Can’t they play year around?”

His statement brought a tear to my eye. My little boy is becoming a man.

So who do you think is going to win the “big game”?  Leave your predicition, along with the score,  in the comments and I’ll declare the winner of the first annual “Without Wax Superbowl Prediction Contest”  on Sunday night.

My Prediction: Cardinals 27- Steelers 20

    Cardinals 26. Steelers 7

(I have no idea, I’m just doing “THe Price IS RIGHT” thing where one contestant, who is also clueless, just gives a number really close to the guy before her.)

According to the men of my house…they are going against Kurt Warner which is killing us all…but for the sake of a score, they are telling me Steelers 28 Cardinals 14. We will all be watching the game!

  3. Melissa January 31, 2009 at 9:32 am #

    Steelers 27, Cards 24

Is Jett becoming a man, or some womans’ worst nightmare? LOL…just kidding.

  4. Gina January 31, 2009 at 9:45 am #

Well since the Packers, nor the Titans are playing I’ll go with:

    Cardinals: 21, Steelers: 17

  5. Noel January 31, 2009 at 9:52 am #

    Steelers 14, Cardinals 10

And I’m proudly wearing my Steelers shirt to preach this weekend.

  6. Mary Catherine January 31, 2009 at 9:59 am #

I would like to have seen the Panther’s go to the Super Bowl but since they will not be there I will be pulling for the Cardinals. However I believe the Steelers will win by 10. The score Cardinals 17 Steelers 27…enjoy the game!

  7. The OC Josh January 31, 2009 at 10:18 am #

What about arena football?? It’s fun to watch and cheaper to get tickets!

    GO CHARGERS! Superbowl 2010!

  8. Heidi January 31, 2009 at 10:34 am #

    Cardinals 23, Steelers 20

    Pulling for Kurt Warner!!

  9. Pete Wilson January 31, 2009 at 10:42 am #

@Noel, I’m not sure that’s a good idea. I wore a TN jersey once when I was pastoring in KY. Didn’t go over so well. :)

  10. Jeff Honnold January 31, 2009 at 10:55 am #

    I’m picking the Browns (hey, what can I say – I’m a die-hard).

Seriously though, I would love to see Arizona get their first win…BUT I don’t see Pittsburgh’s defense letting them so I’m going with the AFC North and saying Pittsburgh will win their record 6th Superbowl.

    Pittsburgh 27 Arizona 13

  11. Tommy Sircy January 31, 2009 at 10:57 am #

    Steelers 23, Cardinals 13.

That’s a head pick. I’ll be pulling for the Cardinals.

  12. David January 31, 2009 at 11:02 am #

    Steelers 17 – 7

  13. rhelton January 31, 2009 at 11:08 am #

I really want the Cardinals to win, but I think the Steelers will take it…

    Steelers 21
    Cardinals 17

  14. Steve January 31, 2009 at 11:09 am #

Uh… who’s playing again? :^ ) I lost interest once the Titans were out.

  15. Toby January 31, 2009 at 11:29 am #

I want whatever drug these Cardinal fans are taking :-) . Not even gonna be close folks.

    Steelers 31 Cardinals 10

uhhhh should the Steelers lose, please take it easy on me :-)

  16. Pete Wilson January 31, 2009 at 11:38 am #

Ohhhhhh Toby. Sunday night could be rough for you. I would stay away from the blog. :)

  17. Nigel January 31, 2009 at 11:59 am #

I second Toby’s post, minus the score.

    Steelers 35 Cardinals 14.

and if the Steelers lose, well then I’ll just do what the song “Can’t You See” says, and climb into a little hole.

  18. Iris January 31, 2009 at 12:02 pm #

Cardinals 28 to 21 they beat the eagles so i have hope!

  19. ryanguard January 31, 2009 at 12:17 pm #

    My AZ CARDINALS Pete!

Of course they would go to the big game the same year I move away from AZ. 29 years… no big game… i leave… big game.

    Cards win. 27-17.

  20. Bridge January 31, 2009 at 12:24 pm #

    Arizona wins. 21 to 17.

  21. Pete Wilson January 31, 2009 at 12:45 pm #

@ryanguard, why don’t you move to Tn for a year and then move away. Might bring us some luck.

  22. Phil January 31, 2009 at 12:50 pm #

    Steelers 35 Cards 21

  23. Terri January 31, 2009 at 12:56 pm #

Cardinals 24 Steelers 14 – Wish it would have been the Carolina Panthers, but they messed up really, really bad. Therefore I’m picking based on who has the prettiest helmets. It’s a not-so-secret method that I use.

  24. bluegoose January 31, 2009 at 12:57 pm #

    Cardinals 21, Steelers 17

Mainly because I don’t want the Steelers to have more SB wins than the Cowboys, but I do really like Kurt Warner and he deserves a second ring!!!!

    GO CARDS!!!!
And I so agree with Jett, it’s just not fair – although my hubs and children can’t wait for the end of football so “We get our Mom back!!!”

  25. Candy January 31, 2009 at 12:59 pm #

Cardinals and Kurt, 23 – Steelers, 20. Kurt is my BFF and fellow alum. He just doesn’t know it.

  26. Ashley Moore January 31, 2009 at 1:14 pm #

Cardinals 28 – Steelers 24 … This was just after I had to ask my fiancé who was playing again-but I have a good feeling!

  27. Jody Duncan January 31, 2009 at 1:27 pm #

I think the winner should receive a copy of “mad church disease”.cards 24 – 21

Steelers 24… Cardinals 14. And If I wasn’t living in fear of getting smacked in the head with the “terrible towels” my two boys got in the mail the other day, I’d be fine if the Cardinals won :)

  33. William Guice January 31, 2009 at 2:52 pm #

I predict I will eat at least 2 helpings of chips and queso, 1 hot dog and i’m sure some brownies of some sort

    Cardinals 27-steelers 24

  37. Jeremy January 31, 2009 at 3:01 pm #

Cardinals 24 Steelers 20. I love rooting for an underdog, and I’m a big Kurt Warner fan.

  38. ireid January 31, 2009 at 3:05 pm #

    13-10 Cardinals.

  39. mandythompson January 31, 2009 at 3:09 pm #

    Wait.
    Is the Superbowl tomorrow??

    I gotta get out more.

  40. gitz January 31, 2009 at 3:19 pm #

    Cardinals 24, Steelers 21

My problem is that I’ve rooted for the Cardinals AND the Steelers all season, but didn’t expect them to both make it… now it’s like choosing between friends. But hometown boy Kurt gets my loyalty every time.

And I’m with Jett… the weekends just aren’t as fun anymore… I like basketball, but it’s basically just a placeholder until football is back.

  41. Kyle Reed January 31, 2009 at 3:26 pm #

    Steelers win 24-6
Kurt is going to be on his back the whole game.

  42. Jeremy B January 31, 2009 at 3:28 pm #

Warner’s release is too fast for the Steelers D and the Cardinals’ defense is underrated.

i’m going for the Steelers – let’s say 24-10! Of course I’ll be with YOU at church during it. I hope you’re able to concentrate on the sermon cause i need to hear it!!!!! :)

  47. ryanguard January 31, 2009 at 4:10 pm #

Pete I TRIED to move to Tennessee but that Pat Rowland guy wouldn’t hire me fast enough, haha!

But hey, you guys get to play in the “Hall of Fame” game… which is, um, pretty cool right?

  48. Josh Robbins January 31, 2009 at 4:15 pm #

If it’s not the Browns playing, than I must at least cheer for anyone playing against Pittsburgh. Regardless of my cheering though, I gotta say Pittsburgh wins. 27-13. Wonder how many people will be at the 6 o clock service?

  49. jim drake January 31, 2009 at 4:24 pm #

Jett and my son Daniel should get together. Daniel just lives on through NCAA and Madden until Fall.

I’m going to be happy either way. We’re Steelers fans at our house, but Kurt Warner is a neat guy, so I’m good if he wins. But, I’m going to say Steelers 28, Arizona 24.

There was a time when I’d be sure to be in church on Super Bowl Sunday night. That’s because I figured if Jesus wanted to take home a bride without spot or wrinkle, a bride that’s devoted to Him without reservation, not about to two-time on him with something else, then He’d do the Rapture thing during the Super Bowl.

I am so not a Steelers fan, but I say it will be Steelers over the Cardinals 17=10. That said, I am a female and I LOVE football. I nearly go into mourning when the college season ends, but after the superbowl it’s pathetic. (I also am married and have sons) I am not into the NBA and I would rather watch paint dry than watch baseball on tv, so until the Summer X games and then football again, I am forced to watch Nascar.

I am so very sad. I even had the right score up until the 2 minute warning. Kurt’s still da man. Congrats, Steeler fans (I guess).

  82. Rob February 2, 2009 at 12:50 pm #

I would say melissa won (3rd comment from the top). Not only did she comment early but she was off by only one point.
