It’s Cold, But NOT That Cold | WithoutWax.tv by Pete Wilson

It’s Cold, But NOT That Cold

We’re experiencing unseasonably cold weather here in Nashville right now. Today’s high is in the 20′s with tonight’s low in single digits. That’s cold around here.

This is the catalyst behind the most recent debate in the Wilson household. Brandi always thinks our house is cold. I keep our thermostat set on about 65 most the time and usually when I’m not looking she’s trying to bump it up. :)

However, last night Brandi dropped a bomb on me. She said it’s so cold she wants to buy one of those “snuggies”.

If you have somehow been sparred from seeing the commercials and aren’t familiar with the snuggie then you must CLICK HERE and experience it.

For $20 you can have your very own snuggie or you can go the the fabric store and buy a big piece of fleece and cut two holes in it for probably $5.

Better yet, why don’t you go up to your closet and find that old robe you haven’t worn in years and put in on backwards. Or you could break into your local monastery and steal one of the monks outfits. It would probably be brown which would be kind of cool and unique since the snuggie only comes in burgundy, royal blue and sage green.

I think this is bad news. I would rank the attractiveness of the snuggie right up there with the flannel gown or moo-moo. What if she wants to start wearing it to bed?

I think I’m going to go adjust the heat now. Do you think 67 degrees will do it?

Just a heads up…katdish will probably be self-promoting again today. She did a little post awhile back on a similar item! (The “slanket”) :)

I saw Brandi’s site awhile back about her promotion of the “slanket” which was much more expensive, but looked just as monkish/foolish!

If she does wear one, PLEASE POST PICS!

  2. Bill (cycleguy) January 15, 2009 at 8:20 am #

You are toast my good man! You think she is cold now? Wait until she hits the 50s. I suggest you buy some stock in heated footies, long flannel jammies and blanket-makers. And I find my bride wanting it to be 70 or 71. Happy snuggles-ing!

  3. Carolynn @ Willow Tree January 15, 2009 at 8:29 am #

20 degrees would be a heatwave here in Wisconsin, it’s supposed to be Negative 25 here today, BEFORE the windchill! But even so, I have to agree with Brandi; I keep the thermostat between 67 & 68 and Still have considered the Snuggi, LOL!

    Blessings, Carolynn

  4. Jenni Catron January 15, 2009 at 8:37 am #

My husband threatened to buy me one of these because I’m always complaining about being cold. So far no “snuggie” in our house though.

  5. Helen January 15, 2009 at 8:51 am #

How could you make fun of the snuggie? And you being a pastor! I am deeply disappointed that you would make fun of pastel monk robes, being a man of the cloth (that cloth being denim, apparently) and everything! Do you hear that swishing sound? That is me shaking my head in disgust!

  6. Candy January 15, 2009 at 8:51 am #

I am SO ordering one of those after seeing it posted by @katdish. It’s -20 here with -42 windchill and it doesn’t matter what the inside thermostat says – brrrrr! Ever seen dog business freeze mid-stream? I kid you not. I would totally wear it to bed..and to Target, and Costco, and….. Perhaps we could get a group discount? Who’s in?

  7. Scott Williams January 15, 2009 at 8:54 am #

I cant believe that someone has convinced us to pay for a backwards robe and name it after some fabric softner… those darn infomercials are convincing; don’t stay up late.

  8. ally January 15, 2009 at 8:56 am #

I’d bump it up to 68….

  9. Kevin January 15, 2009 at 8:57 am #

Have Jenni give you a raise so you can afford the increase in your energy cost at home and warm that house up a few degrees, but I am with see what is in the closet to keep you warm.

  10. Michelle January 15, 2009 at 8:59 am #

Must be something about being a pastor. Mine has his thermostat set to 65 all the time too, and it’s always cold over there. Maybe I need to add Brandi to the list of people I’m sending quilts to.

  11. Rebekah January 15, 2009 at 9:01 am #

LOL. I want one of those too, don’t hate on the snuggie!
It is -4 here now. We keep our heat on 70 and I think that is too cold. Us women are just colder- it is a fact!

  12. Gina January 15, 2009 at 9:01 am #

Pete, go to walmart and buy the plastic to put around your windows, that is what I am doing tonight. I live in Ashland city, not to far from nashville and keep my heat set at 65, right now my thermostat is showing 50, to cold to be working at home.

  13. bradruggles January 15, 2009 at 9:03 am #

Oh man, I hope Lisa doesn’t read your blog today. She would SO be getting one of those.

And I have to agree with you…nothing says “sexy” like being wrapped up in a blanket with sleeves.

  14. Michelle Pendergrass January 15, 2009 at 9:06 am #

Dude. Turn the heat up to avoid flannel jammies–and moo moo’s are even worse, especially if they’re flannel! Buy flannel sheets instead. ;)

  15. Zack January 15, 2009 at 9:07 am #

The best is the clip of the people wearing snuggies at the youth sports game. Amazing.

  16. Pam January 15, 2009 at 9:10 am #

Am I the only one that is reminded of a hospital gown with long sleeves made of fleece when ya look at the Snuggie? And we all know how *wonderful* those are! Yikes! I would NOT wear one of these- you know- unless I had one….

  17. Tracy January 15, 2009 at 9:13 am #

Come on, buy her one. It’s only $20! You’d spend a lot more if bump it up to 67. Just think of it as Brandi trying to save you some money.

  18. Harold January 15, 2009 at 9:13 am #

@bradruggles could you please do us the honor of a photo of @pete in a snuggie? I know all the withoutwaxers would love to have a copy. Please…………….

  19. Rachel January 15, 2009 at 9:29 am #

Hey… desperate times (like temperatures in the teens) call for desperate measures…

  20. Susan January 15, 2009 at 9:31 am #

OH MY! I have seen these advertised! and I just have to say… even in MN, where it is -24 here this morning (not factoring in the windchill) I would never wear that!
Pete, the monk’s robe comparison is spot on… yes. exactly.

  21. pam January 15, 2009 at 9:32 am #

Oh GLORY! At least you will be fine with a cold house when your wife hits those menopause years. BRANDI I’d be right there with you girl—65 ARE YOU KIDDING???? We set ours at 72. Sorry Brandi–don’t mean to rub it in. We laugh at those commercials but I’m thinking your wife deserves a whole new wardrobe to cope with your cruel and unusual punishment. :) Is this your method of child control—they’re so cold their cute little minds can’t come up with ornery ideas? I’m freezing just thinking about how cold it is in your house right now. TURN UP THE HEAT MAN–GOD WILL PROVIDE! :)

  22. Kath January 15, 2009 at 9:40 am #

I sure should of ordered 8 of those snuggies when I heard the forecast. It is -20* and that is not the wind chill factor! It is COLD! Period.

Set the thermo at 70* and Brandi may not have to be looking where ya dont want her to!!

  23. Kara Prater January 15, 2009 at 10:02 am #

I am feeling left out! They don’t even advertise the “snuggie/slanket” in my area. Whats up with that??? Maybe us Southeast Texans don’t even know cold. Our cold blasts last 2 days and then it warms back up.
Turn the heat up! Marriage is all about meeting in the middle. :)

  24. Jan Owen January 15, 2009 at 10:05 am #

I think Brandi has figured out how to subtly blackmail you, Pete, ans she’s won!!!! Hurray for cold women everywhere who’s husband’s never wear a coat while we shake continually.

We bought a dual controlled mattress warmer – it is saving our marriage.

  25. Chris January 15, 2009 at 10:08 am #

Anne expressed her need for a Snuggie last night too. I expressed that we have roughly 400 blankets in the living room alone, so one more with sleeves won’t make much of a difference. I think it’s really just a slightly warmer hospital gown.

  26. Ladybird January 15, 2009 at 10:09 am #

What always amazed me was the lady holding the baby. If she is cold enough to cover up, wouldn’t the baby be cold too? And then they show people wearing snuggies in the bleachers at a football game….I would draw the line about wearing it oustide of the home.

  27. Debra January 15, 2009 at 10:21 am #

Turn up the heat! We have the same discussions in our house … he’s hot and I’m cold and he says I can put on more clothes but he can’t take more off. Got a point. So, I carry around a heater blanket and wrap myself in it! :) It works. That and wool sox! I am feeling for Brandi.

  28. chuckazooloo January 15, 2009 at 10:23 am #

so i think those people look like they are in a cult. and now i have proof. here is the commercial that you DON’T SEE

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT1RIxkTAR8

btw, i thought about buying one just to get the two cool book lights…

  29. Joni January 15, 2009 at 10:24 am #

Its -17 here today. I need two Snuggies. One for the front and one for the back. Leaving nothing exposed today!

  30. mandy January 15, 2009 at 10:27 am #

65 is a ridiculous temperature pete. :) we keep our heat on about 72 and i still have to wrap up in the warm blanket i won at the staff christmas party, although chad tried to steal it for wendy. i think brandi is a saint for putting up with that kind of temperature for this long! :)

  31. Michael January 15, 2009 at 10:33 am #

Pete, I’m with you. Keep the house at 65 and still can’t believe the gas bill of $270. Tina is always cold and I walk around in shorts. But a snuggie? No, no, no. The flannel sheets are a must. Here’s a question, is it wrong to keep my house at 65 and run the ceiling fans as well?

  32. rlowenfield January 15, 2009 at 10:40 am #

Confession…almost a year ago I fell into the “Sky Mall” trap and purchased the beautiful brown “slanket” on my lay over in Houston. I had a great laugh when I was actually bundled up under my slanket doing my bible study this morning when I saw the post. Brandy – THEY ARE GREAT (it’s my fiance’s favorite blanket) – keep pushing!!

  33. Jenny January 15, 2009 at 10:40 am #

I hate to tell you this, Pete, but you’re either going to have to bump that heat up to 69* when it’s cold, or buy Brandi a Snuggie. (p.s. I have a Snuggie and they are won-der-ful!!)

  34. Sarah Joy January 15, 2009 at 10:49 am #

Wow, 65?? I can’t believe Brandi hasn’t ordered one already! That’s freezing! I think you have two options … concede and raise the thermostat, or order Brandi a snuggi! When we’re home, we keep the temp at at least 70, sometimes higher. And we have a wood burning fireplace that we set to 75!

P.S. Wanna trade? We are -20 here today, with a wind chill warning of -35 to -40. No school today! Too bad as a nurse, I still have to go to work.

  35. Paula January 15, 2009 at 10:50 am #

This is probably unusual to hear from a woman, but I am so with you on this Pete – those things are horribly unattractive and I would never torture Sam by wearing one! :)

But we have the same hot/cold debate…we compromise at about 68 and sometimes I’ll bump it up when he’s gone. But when I do, my dogs overheat and shed their fabulous husky hair. So the question remains – cold house or an overload of dog hair?

  36. Patty Dolan Tervo January 15, 2009 at 10:56 am #

LOL!!! My 9 year old son Sam wants a Snuggie! I told him to go right ahead and order one with his own money, but I haven’t seen him wearing one yet. ;) He’s always wrapped up in blankets, bathrobes, whatever he can grab. We live in Massachusetts where it’s in the minus temps today with the wind chill factor, and we keep our thermostat at 66 during the day and 60 at night. We just cuddle a lot…more fun than tons of blankets!

  37. David January 15, 2009 at 11:02 am #

No. Loosen your pursestrings. Be generous with the spouse; and you may come to enjoy some warmth yourself. Try 72.

  38. Lindsey H January 15, 2009 at 11:03 am #

I was blessed with my own sage green snuggie for my birthday a couple of weeks ago and I am in love. Yes, I realize that it is essentially a backwards robe, but, it is longer, so it covers my feet and it’s perfect for laying on the couch. The kiddos love to cuddle under it and watch TV with me and don’t think I haven’t caught hubs stretched out in his recliner all snugged up! Don’t forget the free book light that comes with it..so cool! and the special right now is BOGO (buy obe, get one)…how could you pass on this!
Give in Pete……the snuggie is here and it’s calling for you!

  39. Julia January 15, 2009 at 11:17 am #

why is it we always think no one else thinks the same way we do!!?
I am thankful to say no need for one of those here in my home town… sorry folks it’s bathing suit weather here in Cali and i can definitely resist ANY call to purchase a… what is that thing called again ;) ?

  40. Pete Wilson January 15, 2009 at 11:20 am #

    @Lindsey H, You’re not convincing me. :)

  41. Heather January 15, 2009 at 11:22 am #

The cold makes you funny, Pete….I think you should turn your thermo up to atleast 72, until this whole cold spell blows over.

  42. Deb January 15, 2009 at 11:51 am #

If you want to cause yourself real trouble, suggest that vacuuming creates body warmth. Added bonus is that is also burns calories. And from there, I’d run, Pete. I’d run fast!!!

  43. Mandy January 15, 2009 at 11:58 am #

That’s really funny. I think the clips of the commercial with all fo the family together in their matching snuggies is ridiculous. But, just as ridiculous is the fact that you keep your house at 65 degrees when it’s that cold outside! Lol! I grew up in Texas and anything less than 75 is verging on cold for me. I don’t blame your wife and think you better turn it up higher than 67 or you might be doomed to sleeping next to that snuggie!

  44. Pete Wilson January 15, 2009 at 12:02 pm #

I understand it’s cold outside. But if you have the thermostat on 65 it stays 65 whether it’s 55 outside or 6. Right? :)

  45. Anna January 15, 2009 at 12:09 pm #

    65 is a bit too cold…lets go 68!

and yes coming from a female who LOVES fashion…these are TERRIBLE!!!!

  46. Gina January 15, 2009 at 12:15 pm #

I once heard a wise man say the secret to a long and happy marriage were 2 very powerful words
    “Yes dear”.
He said those words pay dividends in other areas;)

    just my .02

  47. brunettekoala January 15, 2009 at 12:20 pm #

    What’s a moo-moo?

Our thermostat is set at about 20 degrees (23 if we’re realllly cold). That’s celsius though, I have no clue about fahrenheit.

  48. Jessica Turner January 15, 2009 at 12:22 pm #

65?? I WOULD DIE. We keep our house at 70.

  49. kristiapplesauce January 15, 2009 at 12:33 pm #

Wait. What? Seriously? This is what we have been missing on American TV? Wow. That is incredible. So I am really confused on this whole thing. Didn’t you just write a comment on Brandi’s blog not to long ago how you thought her sexy no matter what she wore because she was talking about not wearing anything but pj bottoms all the time (or something)? How is this any different? Either you think your wife’s hot or you don’t Pete, which is it?

BTW, you know that she is going to get a bunch of these for presents because you aren’t gifting her with any…right? I am just warning you of the backlash….shame.

  50. Chris January 15, 2009 at 12:38 pm #

In Cincy it is currently 7 degrees outside. Tonight’s low is -7. Our house is set at 73 currently. We do not like the cold. I only want cold and snow during Christmas and then Spring can return. The snuggies are funny. But who has time to sit and stay snuggie. The back opens like a hospital gown right? I say if you can keep your thermostat at 65 then put on layers and save some heating bill.

  51. melissa irwin January 15, 2009 at 12:50 pm #

70 degrees dude. I am very hot natured…love cold…hate heat…and even I set my thermostat at 70. You might be freezing your family! What does Brandi do with the temp while you are not home? Just curious?

  52. Tiffany January 15, 2009 at 1:03 pm #

Okay I personally think this is genius!!!!! And you gotta have the thermostat at least at 70 degrees! We saw Brandi’s blog!!!! :)

  53. DubHow January 15, 2009 at 1:11 pm #

Sometimes you just have to take a stand! Absolutely not! (disclaimer – I’m single)

  54. Starwoodgal January 15, 2009 at 1:46 pm #

Pete – FYI – Bed Bath and Beyond now carries the Snuggie in their stores. I saw it the other night. I ran the other way! :)

  55. Jan Connair January 15, 2009 at 1:49 pm #

ROFLOL! I was just telling my husband about the hilarious Snuggies commercial I had seen the night before last. “It’s a bathrobe worn backwards” were almost my exact words. And you are correct about how attractive they are–ewwwwwwww!

My husband likes the house to be at 65, too. I run it up to 67 during the day because I get cold. But the thing is, I sit at my computer a lot. I have to admit that if I got up and moved my behind a little more, I’d probably get enough blood flowing to warm up. I hate to admit I should do more vacuuming or laundry, but it might be the truth!

  56. Jerri January 15, 2009 at 1:53 pm #

This is what cracks me up about the Snuggie.

    THERE IS NO BACK.

We refer to it as the hospital gown for monks.

Pete, man, do what you got to do but avoid the less than attractive reverse monk robe. Besides, 70 will not fry you. In fact, you can make it an adventure. Get a coconut cup with an umbrella and a grass skirt. Pretend you are on a tropical island. Who knows it may get warm enough you don’t need the Snuggie or the higher temp on the thermostat. :-)

  57. gitz January 15, 2009 at 2:19 pm #

You’re soooo wrong on the thermostat thing, Pete. It says 68 in my house right now, but I have an ICE CHUNK on my wall. I noticed what looked like streaks of paint on my wall so I took down the picture that was hanging and the chunk of ice fell off.

When it’s -40 windchill (I feel you, Candy) it’s colder in your house even at 68*… however, I still choose to wrap up in a blanket rather than declare myself an apostle. I swear the next performance you see at a church of the Last Supper will be done with royal blue Snuggies, or maybe they’ll dye them brown…

  58. Pete Wilson January 15, 2009 at 2:23 pm #

@kristiapplesauce, I think Brandi is hot but I don’t want to cover up her hotness with that thing. :)

  59. jill January 15, 2009 at 2:30 pm #

    Pete,

Ok, I seriously LOL! That is totally something my husband would say. If Jill is going to plan on wearing that thing over her – I’m turning up the heat to keep her nice and warm! No MOO MOO’s allowed around here. And it’s COLD OUTSIDE! I’m with you – put on an extra layer or wear a cute sweater – but NO moo moo snuggle blankets!

My sweet husband deals with me being a PJ Mom most days – since we homeschool – he surely doesn’t need to see me add this to the mix! LOL!

Good luck getting through your cold spell down south!
    Jill

  60. Joseph January 15, 2009 at 2:30 pm #

    Soda coming out my nose…..

I just had this EXACT same conversation with my wife and 6 year old…..Why do women want a Snuggie?
I also thought that it looked like a robe on backwards!

    I just don’t get it.

Try 67 and if it does not work…68.

And as for the snuggie, wait a week or so and it will end up just like the clapper!

  61. kristiapplesauce January 15, 2009 at 2:47 pm #

Good thing you cleared that up. Thank you. I was super stressed out over this.

  62. Jamie January 15, 2009 at 2:59 pm #

Okay I would refuse to even live in the same house as someone who keeps it 65. To me, 70 is cold. Our thermostat stays between 70 and 72. We also have a baby and there is always that thing where if you are cold, your baby is probably a little colder.

I used to think the same thing…if it is set at 65 it is 65 no matter how cold. Then I realized that, in the house we are renting that is simply not the case. I think having all hardwood floors is not helping us, but also that something is wrong with the system because, while it may me 70 in the room the thermostat is located in, every room is not the same temp. And the baby’s room happens to be the coolest.

I think you should remember your wife is a person who’s opinion about the temperature is just as important as yours. If you can find a way to be comfy at 68 then you should. What if she didn’t care that you were cold?

I know I accomplish more when I’m not freezing anyway. Like right now I’m cold so what did I do? I got on the warm couch under a warm blanket and put the laptop in my lap to read Without Wax instead of household chores because I need to warm up first!

  63. Leslie January 15, 2009 at 3:04 pm #

I am a woman and you would have to kill me before I stepped one foot in those snuggies. Please, Pete, turn up the heat! Don’t subject your wife to one of those things!

  64. Lori Wilhite January 15, 2009 at 3:14 pm #

You give your lady 20 bucks and let her be warm and comfy in your freezing cold house. 67 won’t even get close! :) We set our thermostat at 72 year round. Although when Jud is out of the house in the summer, I turn it up to 76 so I won’t be cold. Either way it doesn’t really matter since our air conditioners literally run all day every day during our super hot summers. We don’t have to worry too much this time of year!

  65. ncarnes January 15, 2009 at 3:29 pm #

Like I told Tony Morgan earlier from the embarrassing picture of the young lady wearing one of these in public, I heard Monks-R-Us is running a 2 for 1 special on these this month. :)

“Jesus Needs New PR” describes them the same way I do, they are an Insta-Monk.

  66. Brandy January 15, 2009 at 3:34 pm #

    This is SO FUNNY.

And dude, 65 in the house. That is AWFUL! Ours is set at 72 and we are still bundling up. Gitz is right…. the windchill makes a HUGE difference! Then again, our highs are in the negatives around here. ;-)

  67. Brandy January 15, 2009 at 3:35 pm #

My favorite part of the commercial is when the lady THROWS the blanket off of her when her phone rings…. hilarious! As if it lunged off of her all by itself.

  68. cdenning January 15, 2009 at 3:36 pm #

There is no excuse for a Snuggie, unless you are a woman. It makes sense there. If you’re a dude, you better include your Man Card with your payment.

  69. Jason Clement January 15, 2009 at 3:36 pm #

The trick is keeping just the bedroom much warmer… eliminating the chances of flannel one piece pjs

  70. katdish January 15, 2009 at 3:46 pm #

First off, I did NOT write a post about a “Snuggie”. Mine was all about the way more sophisticated (and expensive) “Slanket” (available for purchase from your favorite skymall catalog). Like Pam said, I would NOT wear one of those things (unless I had one), and I ordered 2 of them for my friend Beth in Terre Haute, Indiana because she promised she would film and post a video on youtube of her and her worship leader husband wearing their matching snuggies and dancing to “I Will Survive” and MC Hammer’s “Caint Touch This”. I am breathless with anticipation…COME ON UPS!

  71. Gloria Wise January 15, 2009 at 3:50 pm #

I am so glad my husband has the heat set at 70. He’s the one who is always freezing. I lucked out big time.
Pete, 65 degrees? are ya kidding me? Your poor family is freezing. Crank the heat up man, crank it up.

  72. Lindsay January 15, 2009 at 3:51 pm #

So you’re saying it’s NOT okay if I wear a Snuggie to church?! Because it’s going to be COLD on Sunday, yo!

  73. Justin Lowry January 15, 2009 at 4:01 pm #

That’s funny! I would turn the heat up a little before that happens. You guys need a camera crew in your house…

  74. Bonky's Mama January 15, 2009 at 4:03 pm #

It’s freakin’ cold here, too. I suggest matching ones for you and Brandi for a Valentine’s Day get-a-way with Brandi. Are you man enough for the snuggie??? Only time will tell…and we need to see pictures.

  75. Jason January 15, 2009 at 4:03 pm #

Ok Pete, better idea, turn the heat up to the point that she wears very little at all, I would say that is a win for both of you. I’m just sayin.

  76. Fran January 15, 2009 at 4:08 pm #

Totally get the “cold” thing. I could walk around with an electric blanket or snuggie at all times right now and be as happy as a clam. Cute? Not so much. I feel her pain. Lets just all move South.

  77. Pete Wilson January 15, 2009 at 4:12 pm #

@Lindsay, we do say ‘come as you are’ but I’m afraid that’s pushing it. Part of me hopes you do. It will give me something to blog about on Monday.

I have to say that I have made fun of the snugglie on numerous occasions. Sounds like you might need to raise the temp of the house to keep your intimacy temp up. 

  79. Veronica January 15, 2009 at 4:38 pm #

Speaking for someone who is also cold all the time, I want one of those things too! I’m pretty sure Chris won’t go for it, but he doesn’t know how cold it is here.

  80. lindsay guard January 15, 2009 at 4:59 pm #

Ok, 65 is way too cold! Ryan and I battle over the thermostat all the time because I’m a 75 girl and he doesn’t even own a coat to wear when we’re in Ohio! I can say that at first glance, the snuggie seemed ridiculous but I think its because of the commercial, not the product. I would definitely be hunting one down if I didn’t live in Orange County and just come in from the pool ;)

  81. lisapbjcreations January 15, 2009 at 5:25 pm #

65 is fine If you don’t think it’s warm. Then go outside for a few minutes then come back in. Nice and toasty….we laugh at that commerical everytime it comes on hilarious.

  82. Tina January 15, 2009 at 5:26 pm #

That is too funny we saw those and Billy said he wanted one!! I could not do 65 I would freeze I HATE TO BE COLD!!

  83. Adam O January 15, 2009 at 5:51 pm #

umm.. i think I am partially responsible for telling your wife about the “poor mans” version of the Slanket. I think I may have sent her a twitter about the Snuggie.. Sorry man.

  84. kaitlyn January 15, 2009 at 6:04 pm #

I would be so infuriated with you if you set the heat in my home at 65. We turn it to 68 when we aren’t home, and it’s between 70 and 72 when we are home.

I like the comment above that asked you to find a way to live at 68. I agree that you should be considerate of her– it would upset me greatly if someone didn’t care if I was freezing.

  85. jim drake January 15, 2009 at 6:22 pm #

    Pete
My wife wants one of these too… you are hilarious… I laughed so loud Diane said “what are you laughing at?” I said “Never mind” You crack me up!

  86. Randy Wood January 15, 2009 at 6:29 pm #

Dang! I sware I am the guy that invented the “snuggie”, oh well. Wait to you see my next invention….. “The Puggie” its a snuggie for fat people like me! :) Needed that laugh Pete, thanks

  87. jessicagrady January 15, 2009 at 6:32 pm #

snuggies? no no no…….. the hugsack is so much better! you have prints http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_070B149890110001P?sid=BVReview

i’m a girl who gets cold easily as well. 67 should be good =]

  88. nigel January 15, 2009 at 6:43 pm #

um, definately don’t go with the snuggie. i tried to find a place that sells monk habits, but i couldn’t find any, at least online.

i’d totally recommend getting one tho, they look wicked warm.

  89. lindsay guard January 15, 2009 at 7:05 pm #

Ellen Degeneres is wearing a snuggie on her show right now, making fun of the commercial…

  90. Nate VZ January 15, 2009 at 7:56 pm #

Pete, turn the thermostat to 63…she needs to toughen up a little bit. You can’t have champagne taste on a beer budget…times are tight, turn the temp down.

In regards to the “snuggie”, I would rename it the “anti-intimacy gown”. It is a fluffier version of a hospital gown.

  91. Haley January 15, 2009 at 8:07 pm #

Save your money and just wear your robe backwards : )
PS 60 anything is a bit cold….I have to have it above 70.

  92. LeAnn January 15, 2009 at 8:40 pm #

I think they need to market the Snuggie as a parental discipline tool. When my girls were fighting, I threatened to buy them a Snuggie — just one. SJ’s right-handed and JA’s left-handed so they could wear it together! We could name it the Sissy Sack. heeheeheehee

  93. Cyndi January 15, 2009 at 8:59 pm #

65? Lord, and I was complaining about 70! Yep, must be a pastor thing! Funny how the ones who complain are probably at work in some cozy office while the moms and the babies are at home freezing (lol).

  94. Pete Wilson January 15, 2009 at 9:40 pm #

@kaitlyn, Ok, since you gave me the guilt trip and did everything but quote scripture I’m going to bump it to 68 degrees. But only for tonight.

  95. Evan January 15, 2009 at 9:44 pm #

Before I came to this country, I never lived in a house with central heating. Now I am living among people will argue over a single degree on the thermostat.

The thermostat in my house right now is set at 61. The thermometer in the living room says 56. I am completely comfortable.

Turn down your thermostat. You and your family will adapt.

  96. karin January 16, 2009 at 12:22 am #

I speak from experience, being a near senior, when I tell you that in the olden days we used to wear things called sweaters or pull-overs or turtle necks. We would also wear socks or slippers. Nowadays people want to wear shorts, short sleeved tees, and go barefoot all winter inside the house. Anything over 65 is too hot in the house, especially if you a moving around and doing stuff! What ever happened to just putting on a blanket or afghan as one is sitting on the couch? Those commercials crack me up every time.

When we were young, as hubby and I would go into our cool bedroom, I would say, “It’s cold in here,” and he would answer, “No, it’s not.” I quickly got smart and saying, “I’m cold,” and he could never dispute it again.

  97. Shane Vander Hart January 16, 2009 at 12:25 am #

The high today in Des Moines, IA was -5. So no it wasn’t that cold there :) .

  98. Rebekah Jo January 16, 2009 at 2:35 am #

My favorite part of that commercial is when the people are wearing them at some public sports game and they a cheering their teams on.

  99. jane January 16, 2009 at 6:50 am #

you must be cut from the same cloth as Perry and my Husband…NewSpring & our home are ALWAYS cold! I’m with Brandi…attractive or not, snugglies are good. they would be better if they were heated like my throw that is always on and on my when I am near my recliner.
fyi…i have no robe to use as an alternative and the fleece…have you ever priced that stuff!?! not cheap, much more than $5.

  100. Tina January 16, 2009 at 8:40 am #

Well, in my house the heat is set on 69 during the day while we are gone and 72 in the evening when we are home and then about 70 while we sleep. My husband hates flannel, etc. and I will wear less if it is warm. Enough said.

  101. preacherpen January 16, 2009 at 10:41 am #

I totally despise most commercials, especially the ones like the one mentioned in your post. Have you ever noticed almost everything on the planet sold in modern commercials is $19.95?

Others I can’t stand are the ones which exaggerate situations. An example would be “Tired of all those tangled cords? (man, dressed in casual clothing instead of attire to actually work in), then you need our brand new, never before been seen in the US Cord Holder. Go away!

  102. Tony York January 16, 2009 at 10:52 am #

I am with you.. the snuggles are uhhhhgly!

If I walked into a house where people were using them, I would think one thing – cult.

  103. Bethany January 16, 2009 at 2:52 pm #

I vote for 72. If I were Brandi and had to live in a 65 degree house, I would think about moving out. JK :) But, seriously, give your wife some warmth!

  104. Des January 16, 2009 at 9:40 pm #

Oh man, this totally make my day! Getting the robe out and wearing it backwards; classic.

  105. brewster January 17, 2009 at 10:56 pm #

my kids keep telling me they want this…WHY. NO. i refuse.

  106. Paula January 18, 2009 at 12:30 pm #

Brandi, I’m with you! My mom made me a hooded fleece robe that zips from the floor all the way up. I sleep in it with the hood over my ears! My husband is always hot.
ps. you can get the book lights from Michael’s for $5 or the Dollar Store for $3. They are pretty handy!

  107. Jamie Willow January 18, 2009 at 10:17 pm #

I have something similar, a higher quality blanket with sleeves…it’s called the Slanket…if you do cave and get one get the nicer one and spend 30 instead of 20 ;) it has kept me cozy and warm in our house where my husband keeps things cool too!
