I Don’t Know If I Can Do It

My friend Matthew put this video up on his blog yesterday. I just can’t get it out of my head. I laid in bed last night going back and forth from anger to just feeling heartbroken.

Why would someone be filled with such destructive hate? How can they claim to follow the same grace filled Jesus I do?

*Please note there is some strong language and a few graphic images in the video below. Do not listen with the kiddies in the room. They will run out crying!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neNy8rT7Als&hl=en&fs=1]

I know we’re called to love our enemies and pray for those that persecute us, but I got to tell you they’re making it really hard on me.

What do you think?

**Update** Ok, William gave me a great idea on twitter. What if we flood these guys with mail today on their website. But here’s the rule. If you can’t say something nice than just don’t do it. The point is not to irritate them or provoke them but to send them our prayers. If you’re interested you can go HERE to mail them.

Wow. I wonder what they have to say about the Easter bunny.

It’s so sad to see the destructive energy a group can build. Especially the affect it has on students. I fear for the world they will help create as they continue to grow up.

  2. Kayla Grace December 18, 2008 at 8:04 am #

    Wow. That really hurts.

  3. candidchatter December 18, 2008 at 8:06 am #

    I am speechless and disgusted.

Who are they anyway? A cult?

We don’t do Santa, but it’s not because we agree with these people. Wow.

That’s really sad. Things like that enable me to have those kind of talks with my kids. With God’s help, my kids will show God’s love & grace to people of all walks of life.

  5. becky December 18, 2008 at 8:11 am #

The children being raised in such hate and them, the parents really not seeing it. Do we as followers of Christ SEE what we raise our children in….I hope so, I hope and pray that we don’t turn away from things like this but that we look fully into His face and receive His love and give THAT AWAY……

  6. Adam O December 18, 2008 at 8:13 am #

I have No words.. that is crazy. I think the worst is seeing the little kids holding the signs and singing along..

  7. karen December 18, 2008 at 8:23 am #

this makes me sad. and a bit angry. how does this fit into “love one another as i have loved you”? no wonder the world thinks poorly of christians. my heart is broken. my question is… now what? what should my response be? how do you love someone filled with so much hate?

  8. Pete Wilson December 18, 2008 at 8:40 am #

I agree with you guys. Watching the kids has to be the sadest thing about the video.

Even if you got out of that kind of environment think about how screwed up you would be.

  9. ransom33 December 18, 2008 at 8:40 am #

Personally, I would not have published that video on my blog because in doing so, you give them an audience, and that only gives them what they are looking for to achieve: hurt, anger, pain. They are provoking Christians who see this and putting us at risk of displaying all those traits which are not Chhrist-like.

There are certain things that can only be battled in prayer and this is in my opinion one of them.

God is in control of it all. We need to keep praying for more grace that we are able to not return evil for evil. We know that the victory is already ours and therefore we have nothing to fear with what is behind these people’s voices.

    God bless you

If this is the same group out of Kansas that protests at soldiers funerals then take heart that most of this “church” is one family headed up by a delusional patriarch Fred Phelps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps

This is not a church folks…it’s a cult. Please pray for all the children who are almost literally held captive by their family and indoctrinated in hate every single day.

  11. Zachary December 18, 2008 at 8:47 am #

This deeply saddens me…I sure hope they don’t claim to be Christians

  12. Yvonne December 18, 2008 at 8:49 am #

Vickis is right That is the same “church”. they have been on German television more than once.
They teach their children even worse songs than this: full of hate.

  13. Pete Wilson December 18, 2008 at 9:04 am #

@ransom33, I totally respect the fact that you wouldn’t post it. I’m sure many would agree with you.

I look at it a little differently. I think your comment that “we need to pray for grace” is exactly why I would post it.

When I see things like this I tend to default towards hate. It makes me fuming mad. However, I find in community the strength to extend grace and love to others.

I already feel a stronger and deeper sense of love towards these folks just because of the community created by you and others.

You’re right. We only fall into their trap if we extend the same level of hate to them that they project on others.

  14. Dave in Dallas December 18, 2008 at 9:06 am #

I recognized the “crazy church lady” in the video…
It’s almost not real, she does and says things for the attention I believe…

    Modern day Pharisees and Saducees.

WOnderful visual reminder of why I need to guard my heart!

    God help ‘em.

  18. Gina December 18, 2008 at 9:24 am #

I want to take all those kids and run……hug them all and teach them about love and allow them to be kids….not tools.
    I am sickened.

  19. Molly December 18, 2008 at 9:30 am #

I think it is Fred Phelps church as well…and they do break my heart because they are the image that a lot of people think of when they hear “Christian”.

And what is really sad to me…it is an awful song, but it took a bit of creativity to come up with it…how awesome would it be if they could use it to spread love instead of hate.

  20. Michelle December 18, 2008 at 9:30 am #

What is really sad is they seems happy to express their hate…Real happy! I am praying there kids will form better judgement when they are older.

  21. Heidi December 18, 2008 at 9:31 am #

At first I was disgusted and then mad, but in the end it makes me sad. Sad at how the world views Jesus and Christianity. Granted the video is an extreme example. But it made me think of how I protray my Savior and my faith to the world around me. It’s easy for me to claim the name of Jesus and speak His name in my church, in my small group, or in my circle of friends. But how am I potraying my Lord to my neighbors, the store clerk, or the stranger. Am I genuinly concerned for their souls and their lives, or am I so wrapped up in my own little world that I fail to see their need for Christ. Sorry for rambling. :) Just some of the conviction I’ve been feeling lately. Like the kids song says, “He’s still working on me…” I’ve still got a long way to go. :)

  22. ransom33 December 18, 2008 at 9:31 am #

    Hi Pete,

I appreciate what you are saying about the encouragement you find through these comments and how we can help each other along by reminding ourselves and each other of what our goal is and how we should behave til we get there, but you have to bear in mind that in the same way that hundreds of Christians will be reading your blog today and be tremendously encouraged by the spirit behind it, there will also be hundreds of souls driven by a different spirit, whose already existing hatred may be fuelled by this trash. There will also be others, perhaps young Christians, who on seeing that video may not discern the spirit behind it, and act wrongly because of it.

The internet community cannot be equalled with the immediate community where one lives, where you can fellowship, pray and encourage each other daily face to face. The internet is open to thousands, if not millions of people that we don’t know about, who may not chave ome across this video before and may be using this kind of material for all sorts of evil purposes.

I certainly do not have all the answers, but the Bible does tell us in Ephesians 6:12 that “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” We must therefore assume that much goes on that we do not see or hear about.

Thank you for allowing me to comment on your blog and blessings to you and your family this Christmas and for 2009.

that really is disgusting… And I agree with what Gina said above me… I do want to hug all those kids and just let them be kids… It makes me wince when I hear them say God hates santa, and God hates obama, and all that other stuff… That is tough to swallow… UGH

  24. pgowesky December 18, 2008 at 9:36 am #

In a weird way, thanks for posting this Pete. It makes me really think about the way that I treat people, and the attitude that I display when around others, or more importantly when I’m not around others and I am by myself. Now that I’ve had a chance to think about it… Thanks…

  25. Shane December 18, 2008 at 9:51 am #

Super sad and at the same time a reminder that even those who think they know Jesus don’t. I want to hate these people and I probably do right now. They need to be called out and we should never shy away from publicly addressing their obvious sin… but in someway their display should break our hearts more than those who don’t claim to know Jesus. These people are doing more harm to our effort to present Jesus to a dying world than any other type of people and they themselves will be even harder to reach with the truth of the gospel. (Matthew 18:6 will be the banner over most of these adults place in Hell)

Pete – thank you for consistently bringing challenging thoughts and ideas to us… while also being so refreshingly transparent in your effort to be like Jesus.

  27. Falguni December 18, 2008 at 10:10 am #

Wow! People are so evil! There is so much hate in this world and what we can do is pray for grace and for God to soften their hard hearts! Those people are hiding behind a mask; covering up their pain deep and taking it out out on God! God sees this evil and He will be the judge and do his justice!

  28. Michael Robison December 18, 2008 at 10:10 am #

WOW! Amazing that people can contextualize things to perpetuate a message of hate. They take an opportunity to minister and be intercessors and turn it into fear and lashing out. Definitely passing this one along….

  29. brewster December 18, 2008 at 10:13 am #

are you serious? these folks actually targeted the church I used to wok at in Florida. They ended up being a no-show so that they could go picket the funeral of a lost SOLDIER!

God does not hate anyone but sin. UGH!

  30. Rhonda December 18, 2008 at 10:21 am #

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more heartbreaking or disturbing… It’s sad to think that those children truly believe those things because adults taught them such horrible hate… As I sit here and look at my one-year-old, I couldn’t imagine allowing her to take part of such, and I could never imagine encouraging her to be so hateful… These children and the adults who taught them to be so mean should be in all of our prayers… They will definitely be in mine.

  31. bluegoose December 18, 2008 at 10:22 am #

THis past year, God has been teaching me so much about what His love really is…and this does not come close! I just cannot imagine….breaks my heart

  34. Jamie December 18, 2008 at 10:32 am #

I have been following these people for a while. I wish I could talk to this woman. I think they just do this stuff for shock value. I mean I know they believe what they are saying, but I think they just like the attention they get from it all. Like a kid throwing a tantrum. Maybe if we all just stopped paying attention it wouldn’t be so fun for them to hate anymore.

  35. Harold December 18, 2008 at 10:32 am #

@pete, a wise man once told me that no matter how crazy the criticism is he would always try to find one nugget of truth in it. I am going to try to apply that same idea here.

I feel what Christmas today is not what the original intention of Christmas must have been. I have also wondered about the Santa connection. We tell our children and now in my case grandchildren that Jesus is what Christmas is all about yet many of us will spend hours and hours shopping during the holiday season but not hours and hours thanking God for sending His Son during this time.

I include myself in all this as well. It appears my actions don’t reflect my talk. It all came home to me one December evening when my daughter was about 9. She sat me down at the kitchen table and said she needed to talk to me. She said Daddy, you always promised me you would never lie to me. You always told me you would tell me the truth no matter what. She said now look at me and tell me “Is there really a _______? In my daughters opinion whatever I said next was either going to be the truth or a lie. I had a decision to make and I choose the truth. She thanked me for being honest with her. I then wondered if she thought I had been a lier all those years before.

So @pete I guess there is a nugget of truth in their video somewhere but the way it is presented is absolutely inexcusable.

  36. andy December 18, 2008 at 10:37 am #

Oh, I recognized one of the people. She was on the Tyra Banks show!

  37. Helen December 18, 2008 at 10:38 am #

Mercy. Where is the love and mercy? If they believe Santa is taking us on a sleigh ride to hell, they are morally obligated to say so. But where is the love and mercy? Where is the pain over lost souls? Where are they showing us the heart of Christ? They look like they will enjoy seeing everyone rides a reindeer to hades.
I am a Christian who realizes many religions think I will go to hell….Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Muslims, Seventh Day Adventists, and a whole bunch of Christians who split from other Christians over some point of doctrine. What makes these people more tolerable is that it breaks their heart to think of another person in hell. They don’t smile and laugh at your possible damnation, and call it evangelism.
Jesus said that not everyone who calls Him Lord will be in Heaven. I am sad and worried for the people in that video, and will pray for them, that God converts their hearts to love.

  38. Nick December 18, 2008 at 10:41 am #

I will say the same that I said on Matthew’s blog yesterday…

#1 I think this group does this crap to get publicity. They are always on the news channels for protesting soldiers funerals, saying God killed them because of the sin of America. Don’t get me wrong, they believe their own nonsense, but they do it big to get attention.

#2 They hold up a sign saying “The World is Doomed” – Weird because John 3:17 says God did not send his son to condemn the world, but to save the world. I guess they think Jesus missed something because they are doing the very thing he did not do.

#3 I think they are going to Hell based on their own teachings. They believe churches and Christians should only sing “Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs” and they took a worldly Christmas song and changed the words, and they are using Satan’s tool, the internet and video to get their message out, hypocrite anyone? :)

  39. Drew December 18, 2008 at 10:41 am #

Oh, they take themselves very seriously. You couldn’t build a stronger case for actual physical evidence of demon possession, than that of Mr. Phelps. . . . . .

This is just the latest chapter in there blasphemy that spills out of there mouths daily. No one takes them seriously.

  40. bradruggles December 18, 2008 at 10:44 am #

Dang, why did you have to post that? Now I’ve got to repent again for these feelings I get every time I see those idiots. Really ticks me off the things they do in the name of God and the church.

In the words of that documentary, Lord, save us from your followers.

  41. jody December 18, 2008 at 10:45 am #

Jerry Springer meets crazy church, no wonder people hate christians. The bible warned us about people like this and their legalistic, ignorant interpretation and hate. We should just pray that enough people will see the light and leave this cult so that it will dwendle away like so many before it. May God be with them.

  42. Tanya December 18, 2008 at 10:47 am #

I am rarely shocked anymore when it comes to outrageous adults, but when they involve children and to think of the kids innocence and the world they are forced into. . .what do you do with this?

  43. Larry Boatright December 18, 2008 at 10:47 am #

I’ve wrestled with these things so much in my own heart. Why are there people like this that are so the opposite of what I believe Jesus to be? Things like this are exactly the reason why some of my homosexual friends hate Christians. Don’t you just want to scream out, “THAT’S NOT AN ACCURATE PICTURE OF GOD!!!”
The solution: pray for God to show them the truth. Pray that believers will extend grace in ways they can’t deny. And let it be a lesson to us to continue to chase after God and learn who He really is.
So sad. I agree, especially the little kids. Lord, protect them. Put people in their lives who will show them grace. Sear it in their minds.

  44. Tim Kurek December 18, 2008 at 10:50 am #

Is it wrong that while I was brokenhearted inside while watching this, I couldn’t help but channel the pain and disgust with laughter? It’s a pretty catchy song, well written, and some very loony people are singing it… It’s kinda like watching a Michael Moore documentary or listening to the pink haired lady on TBN…

Alas, this is yet another reason why the world hates us, not because they hate what we are offering, they hate those that misrepresent what we are offering…

“Santa Clause will take you, to hell! Yo!” HOW SAD?!?!?!?!

As I watched in horror and disgust at that video, the Holy Spirit said, “judge not, lest you be judged.” When watching that video, it becomes dangerously easy to think too highly of myself, and by doing so, am I any better than the people in that video?

  46. Drew December 18, 2008 at 10:51 am #

28 “I tell you the truth, all sin and blasphemy can be forgiven,

29 but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. This is a sin with eternal consequences.”

    Mark 3:28-29 (NLT)

  47. Angela December 18, 2008 at 10:53 am #

I think someone needs a hug. No, Seriously and then they throw in the sign that said God hates Obama. *wow* I’m sorry but my God does not hate so clearly whoever these people are worshiping must be a false god by making up that God hates *insert here* Just a thought.

  48. Faye December 18, 2008 at 10:59 am #

Wow, Pete. Do you have to keep posting things that make us think? I’m with Brad. In East TN recently, this group came to protest the memorial service of four cheerleaders killed in a car wreck, saying that God hates TN and that He killed the four girls as punishment — they were giving us “God’s message” through that.

Fortunately, some true believers showed up that day. They were kind to the protesters, who left within half an hour of their arrival. Kinda makes Psalm 15:1 come to mind.

I find loving those who persecute us easier than loving these folks who claim to be Christian and do this. God help me love them like You do.

  49. randi :) December 18, 2008 at 10:59 am #

Gasp! Those poor kids in that video think that’s normal! I don’t really know what I am feeling??

  52. Sally December 18, 2008 at 11:03 am #

I wanted to think these people were just troublemakers pretending to be Christians to discredit the cause of Christ, and more often than not, stunts like these are. But in this instance, it’s from Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas and their church website is godhatesfags.com. This is the group that goes from soldier funeral to soldier funeral, with offensive posters, saying the soldiers died because of homosexuality. What can one say to this? I’ll just remember Pete’s message that with God ‘anything’s possible’, even for these people to change, because otherwise I’ll lose hope!

  53. katdish December 18, 2008 at 11:06 am #

To clarify my earlier comment — no, I am no better than the people in that video. My sins may not be of a similar type or caliber, but sin is sin. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weaknesss.”

  54. ryanguard December 18, 2008 at 11:07 am #

I could vent on this one for a while… but I’m comforted by the fact that they’re weird. They have no credibility. It’s one huge bloodline of evil that they call a “church”.

These kids are no different than the kids who are trained to kill. I watched the documentary that followed them around for a while and the kids had these horribly robotic things to say about everyone under the sun. They were on a playground, maybe five years old, and they were saying nasty, nasty, nasty things.

The hope is that they have a couple of older kids now, our age, who walked away from everything. They weren’t too far down that road… hopefully none of those kids are.

  55. Drew December 18, 2008 at 11:08 am #

First time I seen the sign “God Hates Your Dead Son”, it made my blood boil, and I felt like my Faith was violated.

What’s weird is. . . . many years later, I feel exactly the same every time I am exposed to their garbage. . .

  56. Theresa December 18, 2008 at 11:09 am #

    I find it really sad.
It is heartbreaking that this is what they would want to teach their children. It reminds me of the cute little blond girls that carry around the KKK signs. Hate is all they have been taught.

    It is just really sad.

  57. Michael December 18, 2008 at 11:10 am #

What this sad, sad video shows me is what can happen when truly lost souls fall into the hands of evil. I know what the true meaning of Christmas is all about, as I believe all you who post here do. What I don’t get is the why is it wrong to also enjoy some of the fantasy that goes along with the season. What’s wrong with decorations, and presents and having a little fun with a jolly old fat guy in a red suit?

The part that disturbs me the most is the loss of common sense, common decency and integrity that has befallen us as a society. I pray for all of these people that they will find the right path to God!

    To All — MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

  58. christina December 18, 2008 at 11:17 am #

That is really sad. We are Christians and have Santa in our home. For me, I want my kids to know the real reason for Christmas but to also have the magic and fun of Santa. They have the rest of their lives to be adults, I just want them to have fun and believe in the magic and miracles of the season!

  59. paul December 18, 2008 at 11:22 am #

How disappointing and disturbing! Where is the love!!

  60. Paula December 18, 2008 at 11:26 am #

    Absolutely disturbing.

  61. katdish December 18, 2008 at 11:27 am #

Okay, one more thing and then I’ll shut up. Check out this excerpt from “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”:

“I resolved in my future conduct to redeem the past; and I can say with honesty that my resolve was fruitful and of some good. You know how earnestly, in the last months of the last year, I labored to relieve suffering; you know that much was done for others…(But as) I smiled, comparing myself with other men, comparing my active goodwill with the lazy cruelty of their neglect…at the very moment of that vain-glorious thought, a qualm came over me, a horrid nausea and the most dreadful shuddering…I looked down…I was once more Edward Hyde.”

The closer I get to Christ, the more I realize how truly far away I am.

  62. jody December 18, 2008 at 11:29 am #

After pondering on this I feel better: I bet that video displyed their whole congregation. That means they represent .00000000000001 percent of Christians in America. Do I hate all Muslims? No, but do I despise those crazies that are blowing themselves up in the name of Allah? Yes. Unfortunately, I bet there are a lot more of them. We have a crazy element in our American Christian culture and this is it. Let’s be thankful that they are small in numbers. Thank you, LORD.

  63. Nick December 18, 2008 at 11:31 am #

As I left from making my original comments, I could not help but to continue thinking about these people, and as much as I hate to love people like this, the more they help me realize just how powerful and how deep Christ’s love is for all of us.

If someone claimed to represent me and my name and said stuff like this, I’d shut them down in a heartbeat, but Christ doesn’t. I know it makes me angry…I wonder just how much angrier it makes Christ? Yet He loves. Just that thought makes my day :)

  64. Dennis Muse December 18, 2008 at 11:35 am #

Mat 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

I think that says it all.

  66. Joey December 18, 2008 at 12:10 pm #

Pete, I have a sister that has said that she is gay. I have ministered the truth to her, and we have had a few talks. But, I know videos as such are not called ministry. Are they singing someone right into the fires of Hell? Love conquers all, even sin. You have heard and probably have preached that God hates the sin but loves the sinner. How do we think that stupid things like this will “better” this situation? And help me please….I am really confused, How did Santa get involved with this??? If you can explain this I would love your response. God help us!!!

  67. vicki December 18, 2008 at 12:15 pm #

The hardest thing to do is to love the unlovable. The hate-filled. The misguided.

And the kids in the video – well, it’s just sad what they are teaching this generation of children.

ok I just checked out that site you wrote down Sally…

and I’m totally scared. These people really frighten me. One of the most famous scriptures ever that non christians even know is, “for God so LOVED the world”….. yet the whole basis & foundation of their “ministry” is exactly opposite of this fundamental verse. I am trying to see things from their perspective as I always do — but I don’t get it AT ALL.

if their words are the only Bible people ‘read’…. that’s scary. If they are the only representation of christian that one sees — that worries me. people probably run from christians if this is what they think they are.

BUT I have to believe and have faith that God would make sure to send other christian voices/groups into the lives of people who see this type of ‘stuff’ — so that Truth could be heard. I have to believe this message is a small % of the christian message out there……. right?

  70. Joshua Scott December 18, 2008 at 12:37 pm #

How can they smile while they sing that? I am so glad that God is really nothing like those people think!

  71. Christina Schmidt December 18, 2008 at 12:42 pm #

UNBELIEVABLE! When you go on their website, they have an array of Christmas songs they’ve converted to HATE songs…It’s an absolute disgrace!

  72. nigel December 18, 2008 at 12:57 pm #

It’s groups like that that ultimately made me abandon hope in religion. While there are good Christians, I’ve been unable to rationalize any belief in a just God if there are people like this using religion as a way to spread hate and fear.

It’s a good thing Pete’s around to show the good that can come out of believing.

  73. Simone December 18, 2008 at 1:03 pm #

The sad thing is, the did this and find it hysterically funny. Somewhere, they play this over and over and laugh. I find it disturbing and odd. I’m also confused – so they are Christians????? I just don’t get it.

  74. George R. Eddy December 18, 2008 at 1:35 pm #

I didn’t watch the video. The old maxim for computers also holds true for people, “Garbage in, garbage out.”
God … hates? Doesn’t make a whole lot of difference what the third word in the sentence is, what you got there is a lie.
Unless, of course, the third word in the sentence is lies.

  75. Hirt December 18, 2008 at 1:37 pm #

Shocking. Their attitude, web-site domain, ignorance of Jesus command to love.

I feel sad for the kids.

  76. bgsand December 18, 2008 at 1:41 pm #

The sad — and scary — thing about this to me is the time it took them to write the words to their “song.” They must have marinated in those thoughts and feelings for the time it took to write those words. Then teach it to one another, then the children.

When I consider the time, resources and creativity (such as it is) poured into such a hate-filled purpose it saddens me to see it all wasted.

What if instead of spending time rhyming words to a nasty song they ministered to the needy, the sick, the homeless?

I find it easy to ask this question of them as they are extreme and ridiculous. I find it more difficult to ask it of myself. But I should.

  77. brunettekoala December 18, 2008 at 1:41 pm #

    WHAT?!

  78. gitz December 18, 2008 at 1:42 pm #

I started watching this on Matthew’s blog yesterday and couldn’t finish it. I wasn’t even angry… I was just physically sick and it stuck with me for a long time afterward. I was so sad and disheartened to see people so joyful about hate. It’s the same feeling I get when they do news programs on the little children in schools in the middle east where the curriculum is teaching that God will love them if they hate and kill those who don’t believe as they do.

I know God knows everything that will happen before a moment comes to be, but I see videos like this and imagine the sorrow He must feel for the people who have twisted His love.

  79. Pete Wilson December 18, 2008 at 1:51 pm #

@Becca, Way to go. I sent mine this morning as well.

  80. randi :) December 18, 2008 at 1:52 pm #

I sent a message to them as u recommended… it was really hard to not be negative/critical/curse/hate back…. I did whatever I could to answer the hate with love.

  81. Jan Connair December 18, 2008 at 2:06 pm #

I don’t even want to watch it, Pete. Love your idea about sending them prayers via email. I’ll be praying for them, even though I have no idea what it’s about. It’s enough that you think they need it!

  82. Stephanie December 18, 2008 at 2:07 pm #

Every time I see something like that I always wonder why they think someone would change their beliefs/walk of life by being condemned by them. God is LOVE. It is not our place as Christians to condemn someone. It is our job as Christians to point others to Jesus and let HIM work on the hearts. I have seen protesters like this on my college campus. All it does is stir up hate towards God. It doesn’t draw people in.

It almost physically pains my heart to see “Christians” being portrayed like that. To see the destruction that can come from it.

  83. pam December 18, 2008 at 2:08 pm #

I’m crying. It is not our job to reveal to people how they are wrong, whether there is truth about sin in their life or not. Our job is to point them to love. Let God deal with each in His way. I imagine words of comments left will affect little change. This body of believers has been led down a path of deception in their passion for Christ. I believe that prayer will set them free from such judgemental actions. There is nothing like we humans to hide the message of love from God. Our anger towards this body of believers is just as wrong as their behavior–but it is so heartbreaking—the message they send out about God.

  84. brunettekoala December 18, 2008 at 2:09 pm #

You know, I actually didn’t think this was real. I thought maybe it was a spoof, and I’ve heard some Americans writing about these protests that go on at gay rights marches, outside abortion clinics, e-mails and sermons about Obama being the antichrist.

I don’t think I ever really and truly believed that sort of thing really went on until I went over to that site just now. That is a real website.

I feel sick. If that’s supposed to be Christianity, following Jesus or being a disciple…I want no part in it.

Yesterday, I wrote how much sexual abuse of other people angered me. Well, having a number of friends who are homosexual, I’m possibly even more angry today. I’m protective of my friends. I love them to bits even when they do things I don’t necessarily agree with. They love me even when I do things they don’t necessarily agree with. I get angry when people go about hating my friends, bullying them, and worse taking God’s name in vain like that.

I have written to them, to say I’m praying for them, which I am. Probably the hardest thing I’ve done so far this week (at least).

Now I need to pray for me, because I’m probably being really judgmental.

  85. nigel December 18, 2008 at 3:46 pm #

As the only gay person who seems to have posted so far, I think that, if anything, that video just shows how cruel and unusual some people can be. I understand if there are things about me that you disagree about, that’s not something that I get upset about. It’s when people say and do things in God’s name that are the total opposite of what God (and Jesus) taught that gets to me.

As I said in my last comment, I’m glad that Pete’s at least showing that there is in fact good that can come out of being Christian.

  86. Robin December 18, 2008 at 3:48 pm #

Unreal. They are simply reflections of the god they follow.

  87. mpt December 18, 2008 at 4:52 pm #

Hmm. I hope nobody thinks I like these people.
    :)

    Thanks for the link, Pete!

  88. Sarah December 18, 2008 at 5:07 pm #

Wow…I have no idea what to say. These people are so misguided and judgemental that it makes me very sad. I’m praying that God will open their eyes and hearts.

  89. Andy Depuy December 18, 2008 at 5:24 pm #

Pete i agree with you and I sometimes wonder what people getout of making a video like this I know nothing at all, just stupidity

  90. Zane December 18, 2008 at 6:33 pm #

I’m like you Pete. I discovered this group a couple months ago because they were protesting some cheerleaders funeral in Scott Co., Tennessee after they were all killed in a car accident (no alcohol involved or foul play, just a bad accident). I found their website and what I saw disturbed me for days. I agree with you. What reward is in this for these people? How do they sleep at night spreading such hate and claiming the name of Christ? Not a fan of these people….

  91. Tommy Sircy December 18, 2008 at 6:47 pm #

Well…….I was going to be quiet, completely out of character for me.

Pete, you know what this proves? We live in a great country! You can make a complete and utter imbecile of yourself and still not be consigned to stupidty prison.

Yet, we have the answer why, from the lips of Jesus himself. “People love darkness more than light.” (John 3:19)

Aren’t you glad the Jesus we know doesn’t think the way they do? In His very being is grace and forgiveness.

You know, I feel pretty good. I think I want some egg nog. Maybe I’ll turn on “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

  92. Anita December 18, 2008 at 9:54 pm #

@nigel I didn’t want to say it, but this video made me think of the couple of times I have heard pastors make gay jokes from the pulpit. It is such a sad thing that this happens. I am sorry for the pain that people with those kinds of attitudes have inflicted on you.

  93. gofocus December 18, 2008 at 10:08 pm #

The struggle between light and darkness continues. I wrote to them to ask how they came to the conclusion that God hates. I’m pretty sure God just “is” and people “hate”.

  94. Deanna December 19, 2008 at 12:30 pm #

I sent my message this morning……these people do not know the Jesus I do,they are just as lost as the sinner that has never heard the name Jesus. I told them that I am praying in 2009 they come to know the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

  95. aarondewinter December 20, 2008 at 10:14 am #

    Very sad and disturbing!

  96. Bethany December 21, 2008 at 11:53 pm #

Did you know that the video won’t open now due to “terms of use violation”?
