There are times I’m so proud of people in our church I just can’t stand it. Thursday morning was one of those times.

We really believe…
Everyone’s welcome, nobody’s perfect, and anything’s possible.
Do you?

God bless ‘em!
This is beautiful. We live in what the NY Times calls “The white hot center of the American Economy meltdown”…northern Indiana.
Our unemployment rate has nearly doubled in the last few months. Our church has had a steady decline in tithing. I had hoped that instead of a Christmas party our church staff would do something w/ those allocated funds to help the community.
Shelters are overflowing. They sent out mass emails asking for locals to deliver basics. Rice, beans, bread…they are in serious need because of our local industry which is RV’s.
This small gesture was a big blessing.
@Mandy, I’ve got a feeling we’re going to have lots of opportunities to serve the less fortunate over the next couple of years.
Two things first…Glad to see I’m not the only one who shoots video while driving. Hopefully we won’t meet on the road.
Mmmm….Bojangles….can’t get that in Indy.
“It’s what we’re supposed to do”. That sums it all up. Christmastime, middle of the summer, on a Thursday, doesn’t matter. “That’s what we’re supposed to do” Thanks for the reminder!
Like Heidi said – thanks for the reminder “that’s what we’re supposed to do”. There are alot of opportunities through the year here in my area to help out people who need it. I will try to make that my mantra for 2009.
Beautiful, inspiring, and worshipful! This warms my heart. I agree with Heidi, “That’s what we’re supposed to do” was my fave line. So matter of fact, yet such truth! Thanks for sharing – and GREAT reminder!!!
Was that our buddy, Jody, in the video?
This was a really cool thing for them to do.
Ok…a couple of things…first of all, when you taught out of Matthew 1 last week, I had no idea in all those masses of people listed that some were literally outcasts and would have been those that you would not mentioned in your family line. So, with that STILL in my mind….YES! Everyone is welcome, nobody is perfect, and anything is possible!
These guys were Jesus and I loved watching them serve with truly humble and grateful hearts!!!
Merry Christmas!
Yayyyyyyy people serving the way we’re supposed to serve!! This makes me soooooo happpppyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!! Can ya tell?
Heidi
Love it, thanks for sharing the story. “Its what we’re supposed to do. I think we just forget sometimes.” I completely agree. At a shelter in our town, one of the many needs they have is for diapers and baby formula. I forget there are homeless families. Lets pray for those mommas and babies and for the dignity of the daddies. My kids do that at every meal and bedtime–unprompted–and it moves me.
I saw a likeness of Christ in that clip. It is something these guys are, and not just simply what they do.
Like this blog more and more – it reminds me of who we are in Christ. Keep it going!
That was an awesome thing to do. Those men really stepped up. They are truly putting the Christ back in Christmas!
@Vicki, you couldn’t have been more correct!
that was awesome! thanks for sharing it… and to answer your question..I believe everyone’s welcome, nobody’s perfect, and anything’s possible. I hope I live that way.
Pretty cool, Pete, gotta say! This reminds me somewhat of a quote I just sent to my nephew, who is a HS senior preparing to go on a school-sponsored retreat soon. I sent him a favorite quote: “People see God all the time; they just don’t recognize him. –Pearl Bailey” It is very inspiring to see that this group of guys from your church practiced seeing God in the folks at the shelter. And I’m sure I saw God in them today!
I love it! I know most of those men personally and they have such an incredible heart for service. Once again, a demonstration of ordinary people combining efforts for extraordinary outcomes. We sure miss our Cross Point Home.
Love it. Let’s see it become just so normal to be doing this!!
Yes, I see Jesus!!!
Gentlemen, it is an honor to call you my brothers in Christ!
Whoa Pete….way to make this mama cry! These guys totally ROCK! I can’t wait to show this to my kids
How cool was that.
Pete, I am not a member of your church or faith, but I have admire a lot of what you have done in your ministry. This piece you shows about the service these good men did for those people in the homeless shelter was moving and epitomizes the spirit of this season. I actually posted something about it on my blog with tied to your video. This is what makes my heart glad this season.
I absolutely love that these guys did this, it’s exactly what the church needs to be doing all the time. Way to go gentlemen!
Merry Christmas
It’s amazing that you guys did this. You definately put Christ back in Christmas by doin this.
Is filming while driving legal in Tennessee? You’d probably get pulled over if you got caught doin it up here in CT.
Very cool Pete. Kudos to these guys making a difference and showing the rest of use just how easy it can be.
I do have one concern though….were you driving and videoing yourself at the same time? I knew I saw you swerving through town the other day
It was great to serve at it. Thinking on it now…I want it to become something that I DO as opposed to something that I’m supposed to do. you know? I want serving to be a part of me.
