What A Great Day

We’ve had a wonderful Thanksgiving here in Toledo, Ohio. It’s been great to spend some time with my Grandpa Wilson as well as Grandpa and Grandma Graham and other family.

Yesterday we watched the parade…played rummikub…watched football…ate turkey…played football…watched football…ate more turkey…napped…watched football….napped…ate turkey sandwiches…watched football…celebrated my fantasy football team…played rummikub…ate pie…went to bed.

We’re driving back to Nashville today and would love to hear about your Thanksgiving.  Reading your comments will help pass time while on the road. So if your not out shopping on this “Black Friday” drop in and leave a comment.

Where were you yesterday? What did you do?

A feast, a Titans blowout, just about a perfect day. Then my loving daughter insulted my chocolate chess pie with a, “I don’t think it’s as good as it usually is.” lol

Seriously, we had a great family day.

    Btw, great pics.

    Happy Thanksgiving Pete,

I spent the day enjoying our family – we are waiting for our 8th son to come home from Ethiopia and our hearts are anxious to hear his arrival date. So I kept busy cooking and playing with our chidlren.

We don’t have TV and don’t miss it either. Our family has learned to not miss it either while visiting us. Our dinner turned out delicious and we all ate too much – but what is thanksgiving in America without being stuffed?

My heart is broken for the millions of children around the world without a meal – I have participated in many things this year with our children to help them see globally how many are hurting. Our children from Guatemala that are old enough to understand what they have now vs then are touched deeply when they see children of poverty around the world.

We sponsor many children from Guatemala, India, Africa and Phillipines. Our children rejoiced yesterday coloring pictures to add to the letters I write for them. They love getting their letters in return and it is what they were most thankful for this year. Knowing that God used them (7 children) to make a difference in the lives of a child half way around the world. I am the proudest Mom and feel so blessed.

I wrote a letter to God yesterday instead of making a list of all the earthly things I’m thankful for – because what He has done in and through my life matters most to me. I want nothing but to draw closer to Him each day and fall more in love with the person who wanted to die to save me for all of eternity. I can’t even fathom and yet, so deeply humbled and thankful each day!

I can’t get over that He never stops loving us even with all the times we mess up. That blows my mind and I cherish knowing He is there to forgive me, with mercy and more grace. WOW!

We do not decorate our home – coming from Jewish background and don’t see the reason to start now. We enjoy the lights others put up.

I am thankful you had a safe, wonderful and joyful holiday with family. I am thankful you were able to get away to enjoy God’s love!

I am thankful that you are such a humble man and show that to all who know you and come here to read about the things you want to teach us.

I loved your last couple of posts – the one about teachers, negativity and Sammy! I pray they encourage others to stop seeing themselves as they do – but to start seeing themselves as God does – His royal heir to His throne! I pray others are spurred to sponsor children and get involved with organizations like Soles for Souls, Compassion Int’l, Worldwide Vision, etc.

Instead of spending more on each other this year and stressing ourselves out – reach out and be the hands and feet of Jesus to others. God will bless your obedience!

God bless you and your precious family!

I have enjoyed getting to know you through your blog this year!
    Jill
PS Saying a prayer for safe travels home. Happy reading!

Yesterday I watched our town’s high school football teams battle it out for the only game of the season that REALLY counts (we lost); proudly introduced my college freshman son to some old friends at the game :) ; had dinner at my sister’s with her family, and her bil and sil’s families and talked high school football; stuffed ourselves silly and laughed ourselves silly playing Wii bowling and then went home. It was a really enjoyable day.

Funny, we played rummy-o which is basically rummikub from a different company.

PERFECT weather! Sunny and unseasonably warm here.
Went to my parent’s home. Ate. Played football (3 generations)
~I’m really not the athletic type so it was really fun (they were choosing teams and 4 and 5 year olds were chosen ahead of me if that tells you anything). Lots of photos, laughs, stories and delicious food!
A group of us then went to the movies.
Didn’t see Keith Urban though. Not a lot of “celebs” here in So. Illinois.

It was a great day. I AM BLESSED.

Well, this year for us was a little different. We usually go to Maine and spend it with my husbands family. This year though my husband could not get Thanksgiving off so we could not go to Maine. So, his parents came to our house and we had a small thanksgiving with them. I missed his sister and brother and all the other family we see when we go to Maine. But, it turned out nice. Very laid back. Right now I am currently working, but I am getting out at noon and will join the woment on MY side of the family for a girls weekend! I can’t wait. Family is everything to me and I have a ball with my sisters, mom, and aunts. Well, that is that, safe driving! (wish I was shopping this morning, Wal Mart has Kung Fu Panda for $9!) :-)

Well my Thanksgiving will technically start today. Yesterday I cleaned my house for half the day and somehow it looks as if I did nothing. I put my kids in time out twice for hitting each other and attacking our cat. After Daniel made it home from work we did go and have a meal and my Grandfathers house. I have not have to cook and single thing, and I am pretty sure everyone is ok with that. Today we will have Thanksgiving a my mother-in-laws house then we are headed to Knoxville for Philip Fulmers final stop of his farewell tour :) We are staying thru Monday. Oh no, guess i’ll miss church and moms group (crap).

Happy Thanksgiving to your family. I prepared a feast for 25 people, even though I really only needed to feed 9 people. Leftovers are a blessing. Shawn and Asher wore cute sweaters. Spencer bathed for the occasion, and for his girlfriend. Henri was one of our guests and she told us that she bought her first ever Christmas tree, and that it is 18 inches tall, with minature ornaments on it. We ate way too much. The cleaning will never end. I had pie for breakfast this morning. Be safe.

    Great family picture!

We watched the being of “Pursuit of Happiness,” ate, played cribbage, looked at old pictures, watched football, and ate again. It was a good time – glad to hear your was too!

Since moving back to Dallas, we ALWAYS spend the day with my MIL’s family (with one exception when my parents moved just 2 hrs away from us!) but yesterday was different and fun.
We did lunch with my MIL’s family and watched the Lions get destroyed, then headed to my FIL’s side of the family, dear hubs cousins house and watched the ‘Boys and Texas games!
Lots of food, lots of football, lots of baby slobber!

I am sure that my MIL is upset that we did not stay longer with her family but my own family of four just feels so much more welcome on the other side of the family, my FIL’s side. Although, apparently my 15 yr old has found a male friend on the paternal side….one of dear hubs cousins has taken in two teen boys that the mom no longer could raise. Those two were glued together after a short while (they met during the summer!) so family gatherings should be really fun for awhile!
At the end of the day, though, I got to have some adult fellowship with one of my favorite relatives.

I am so thankful for all that we have been blessed with and know that He is in control of our situations!

Praying for a safe drive home….ours was fun last night, Dallas hwys were still crowded at 11 pm and dear hubs was falling asleep! Thankfully, we did make it home safely!

@tommy we’ll be home later this evening if you’d like to drop some of that’s “it’s not as good as normal” chees pie by our house! :)

We spent Thanksgiving at our church’s annual Thanksgiving dinner. It is for church members and their friends and family (we have a lot of military families and relocated families) and for the homeless and for any one without a place to have Thanksgiving dinner. I missed being with my family, but it was neat to see my kiddos playing with some of the other children who do not have a home let alone a church. It was a neat day.

Had an amazing peaceful and happy day hosting the meal and festivities in our home. Enjoyed the happy news that my sister is having another baby and watching my new daughter enjoy being surrounded by some of those who love her best and “prayed her in” across the world. I echo Jill’s sentiments that so many little ones across the world just want someone to love them and care for them – my heart breaks for those I saw in China, that I couldn’t bring home with me. Touch them Father with the love that only YOU can send!

Pete, we packed up everything and traveled to my mom and dad’s house for a few days.

Of course, they only live five minutes down the road, so it was easy on the gas. No cries of ‘Are we there yet?’ because, basically, right after we started, we were there!

We love Thanksgiving. My brother and his family are in Florida and couldn’t make it, but we compensated with some intense family time. The five kids and I spent the night Wednesday, helped in the kitchen and ate an incredible, traditional meal around 3:00, watched some football, took naps, watched ‘Elf’ (another yearly tradition – we kick off the Christmas season with Will Ferrell…)

My mom, SIL and I usually shop on Fridays but something didn’t feel right about the competitive shopping experience this year. So we stayed home. Mom introduced a new tradition; gave each of us $10 with instructions to use it to benefit someone who needed it between now and Christmas, at which time we’ll report back. Cool.

Thanks for asking. It was a great holiday!

Happy Thanksgiving to the Wilsons! Loved your pictures. Love your blogs.
We are having a fun time with our two kids home…Sally(20)home from the University of Illinois and Wayne (23) home from Cincinnati. Just love having the four of us back under one roof.
We had Thanksgiving at our house with a combination of both sides of the family…a total of 15 people, the hightlight being my nephew’s 2 1/2 year old daughter. Abbie is the only little one in our extended family right now and she makes us all smile. The only negative of the day was 2 hours before our guests were arriving, our mainline to the sewer system backed up in our garage!! We got the yellow pages out, after 3 calls found a plumber willing to come out on Thanksgiving (for double the regular price and cash) and we were back in business in an hour!An expensive and messy glitch in an otherwise wonderful day.
    Safe travels to you guys!

Thought you (Pete) would enjoy this on your ride home, enjoy, laugh and plug your nose. My MOther in law is coming over to our home for the first time within the next hour and my septic just decided to overflow all over my floors, in my tub, my sink..etc. That is how my day is going, please say a prayer.

Glad to hear you all had a nice trip!! Just noticed your comment about driving through Lexington instead of Louisville!! Ha!!

My Thanksgiving was nice. We had an early Thanksgiving in Leitchfield on Tuesday night then my parents came up to Louisville Thursday and we had a Thanksgiving breakfast at Cracker Barrel and shopped at Meijer and KMart which were open on Thanksgiving Day!!

Be safe and God bless you all the rest of the way home!!

I spent the day with my sister and brother-in-law in the afternoon and then went to my parents for dinner and watched CNN coverage on the Mumbai Attack! No shopping for me today, except for Best Buy :)

I spent the day with my brother and his wife at their church. I went to the service then to the Potluck dinner. The only thing I missed was not having left-overs at my house to eat on for a few days.!!

  21. nigel November 28, 2008 at 8:57 pm #

I spent the day demolishing the last of a cabinet, and then putting another one together. And then ate a little bit of turkey with the folks.

Hope you guys make it back to Nashville alright…that’s gotta be one heck of a drive, especially on Thanksgiving weekend.

As for black friday? I work at Target, and we were all forced to work today. Luckily my shift started at 11, so I didn’t have to deal with all the frantic customers at 6am.

@Beth, I love your mom’s idea. We might try that this year for Christmas!

We ate at my sister and brother-in-laws. We always invite anyone we know who will be alone, so it’s always exciting to see who else we get to spend Thanksgiving with! Fun!

Hey Pete, my family is from the northwest part of India, Gujarat district. Not to far from Mumbai. All my family lives here but we have several family friends visiting right now who were in lockdown for a while. Hopefully they made it out alright.

We had a lot of relaxing on Thanksgiving, it was as if suddenly dinner appeared on the table and it was amazing. We then packed up a couple of plates for our friends the Jones’. They are 83 and 85 years of age and their family was all out of town, so we enjoyed their company, playing cards and visiting. It was like having grandparents again. It was a lovely evening.

(we were noticably two family members this week. My husband is in a mental hospital and my son is living away right now. But God took GREAT care in ensuring we were fine. In fact it was peaceful and that is Grace)

Next time you head to Toledo let me know… you drive right past my place! Lunch on me! (Dayton… off 75!) :)

Thanksgiving was spent at two houses, one was a bit tense and stressful, the other was hilarious and joyful. :) No family, all friends.

Jay, Alec and I had a great Thanksgiving day. We were at my Mom’s in Florida. She made her famous sticky buns for breakfast, for lunch we snacked so we could save room for that big dinner. We got to also have dinner with my two Aunts as well as a cousin who I haven’t seen in around 10-15 years. It was a great time and made me aware of how thankful I am for everything.

All my kids were home from college and we went to my husbands side of the family and ate ourselves silly and made family pictures out by the lake. Then we drove over to my grandmother’s house and ate again. **sigh** This means exercising like nuts this week! It was actually rather sad to be at my grandmother’s house as our family is small and she is not doing well…..but we had one more Thanksgiving together. (she is 90)

So, I’m a day late… glad to hear your family had a wonderful time! Those family memories are priceless.

We rented a cabin in Bryson City, NC, which is only about 90 minutes away, but far enough. Jack & I went over on Wednesday, enjoyed wandering through Bryson City, finding the diner and the bakery, and the grocery store. We had invited our sons and my parents to join us. Two of the boys and their families joined us along with my parents for Thanksgiving. This was BIG. The first time in 8 years that we’ve had this kind of a gathering. So, we had 8 adults, a six year old and a nine month old baby in a small cabin.
It was a good visit, lots of laughter and tons of food. Made this mom feel pretty good to hear the oldest say, “OH MY GOSH! This food is awesome!”
We stayed at the cabin until this morning, enjoyed exploring another small town yesterday and remained “unplugged” from technology the whole time. (Almost didn’t survive THAT.)

My sister flew in from Toledo,Ohio, we haven’t spent a holiday together in years and I haven’t had any family here at my home in about 20 some years. Not because I didn’t want to but because of circumstances beyond my control…it was a very thankful Thanksgiving.
