Day Trips

dsc048301

One of my favorite things about living in Nashville are all the incredible places we can visit within an hour or so.

On Saturday morning we decided to take the kids for a drive along the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway to look at the leaves (I know this sounds like something the senior adults at your church might do). There were several places to pull off and hike along the way including this one particular hike to some beautiful waterfalls.

Wish we could have taken you all along, but I guess the pictures will have to do.

Did you do anything fun this weekend? Please tell.

Beautiful pics! I love the one of Brandi and the boys. How can you go wrong with such great subject matter. :) We spent yesterday hanging out with our small group after church, sharing a meal and having fun. I love my church family!

I went on a strange “trip” this weekend.

I’m trying to learn about, study, try, see new things that I have never found to be important, or looked too difficult to learn or I don’t appreciate or have any interest in.

I took a “trip” into the world of RAP MUSIC!
(Took 2 of my grown sons along for the ride)

VERY interesting. Nice place to visit, although I wouldn’t want to live there.

I actually learned a lot and came away with this strange appreciation…

    No photos though.

I enjoyed the leaves too and went to Mentone, Alabama (De Soto Falls) with some friends for the night. Great conversation around the fire and lovely scenery made for a good weekend.

@Ally, What is it about fires that seems to bring out such good conversations?

Well it twas a rainy day here on Saturday so I went to see Madagascar 2 (IMAX) with my son and wife. We enjoyed it but then got to watch football on Saturday afternoon with my son who re-enacted every play that happened and was diving and rolling across the floor for four hours. He now has rug burns on his elbows and knees along with a knot on his head from diving into one of the end table (do not worry it did not slow him down). by the way, when I got up Sunday morning I looked in his room and he was not there, he was in the family room replaying the games by himself as well as cheerng for himself. I love living with a 6 year old! This made for a fun weekend.

Love the pix Pete. Very, very cool. I spent 24 hrs with 2 friends that I’ve known since we were about 8. We had a blast.
We can pick up right where we leave off like nothing has changed.
Laughed so hard I cried and couldn’t breathe. :)

@Kristie, I’ve heard Wicked is awesome. Glad you guys got away!

my wife and I finally finished painting the rooms in our new house. Just moved three weeks ago and finally have all the painting done. I promised her they would be done by Thanksgiving so I’m very pleased with myself, especially on the 12 foot hioh walls.

Your pictures are absolutely stunning! Thanks so much for sharing. Me? Well, I continued nursing a miserable head cold, had to miss church because of said head cold, and also babied our 10-month old puppy who had SEVEN seizures in 24 hours. A good weekend? Not so omuch. But thanks for asking.

My wife and I went to my old Alma Mater and heard the Western Kentucky University Jazz Band with guest artist Chris Vadala. Chris has been the sax player with Chuck Mangione ever since the “Feels So Good” days back in the 70′s. It was really great!

We went on a picnic, I spent some time working on a hobby and we talked with daddy in Iraq. I actually posted about it on my blog-o minus the picnic pics for another post.

    Nice Photos!

I used my Toro Leaf Vac/Mulcher and bagged up a bunch of leaves. Then, I painted a spare bedroom. Did the usual Wal-Mart trip. Watched some football, cooked some chili, did some laundry. Played with the dogs. It was a good weekend.

  15. Christopher November 10, 2008 at 10:48 am #

I cleaned out my garage which was kind of like watching the leaves. I left the door open while taking a lunch break and came back to find all the leaves in my front yard now in the garage.

Spent Saturday with my daughter having a girls day – then yesterday my husband and I had a long sleep in (easy to do when your girls are 17 years old) and then took the said girls to lunch. Did a little shopping and watched movies. Nice weekend, now today I’m heading out of town for a week on a conference.

Sunday my dad and brother took me to Houston’s Fine Art museum! It was great. We have a great downtown area and the museum district is super fun. I love yall’s pictures! They look great!

Yes! I went to visit the homeless with a mission group in Montana — check my blog for pics. I also got to speak in a church for Compassion International — 16 more kids were sponsored. It was a great weekend!

a good, long run with beautiful scenery, a few hours of proofreading Global Studies curriculum, a shopping trip for my adopted kid from Wheelwright for his Christmas presents, and of course a great Sunday at Cross Point with amazing volunteers and lunch AND dinner with great friends!

    Pete,

I recognize that Tobacco barn. I too went down the Trace this past week. Maybe you saw my pictures from my Twitter feed. Rounding every corner was like seeing a new canvass that God painted.

@Alan Pace, Great quote! I’m happy this weekend it was “beauty” that pierced my heart.

  23. ncarnes November 10, 2008 at 12:30 pm #

    Awesome pictures.

We attended the ReThink Money Seminar our church put on with Casey Graham. It was really great.

  24. The Al November 10, 2008 at 12:45 pm #

Al spent 45% of the weekend arguing with Ed Stetzer, 39% of it with his agent, and 50% shopping for a new look. That was a full weekend.

We did the Gatlinburg thing, along with half of the other people in the Mid-South, but once you got away from the crowds, it was nice.

  26. Robin November 10, 2008 at 1:13 pm #

This has sure been a memorable weekend for us…

    great pictures, great colors

  28. sara November 10, 2008 at 1:48 pm #

I can’t even tell you how cool it is to be able to look at photos of places I can’t go and still have the feeling inside like I’m there. That shot of the trees along the sides of the path… my heart actually got a little lighter. So, this weekend I went nowhere and did nothing, but I am SO glad Brandi is giving the green light for you to get the new camera… you’re going to love it and I’m going to so live vicariously :D

Love that you take the time to have moments with your family. Your boys are going to treasure it.

It was an absolutely beautiful day here in sunny Southern California! The temp was about 68 degrees, slightly breezy, and the Fall colors of the trees are in full swing (yes, we do have seasons here).

I took three 13-year olds for a bike ride, while Sparky (the dog) and I walked around our local university campus. It was my walking worship time. “Lord, thank you for this beautiful day, with the gorgeous colors painted on the leaves; the robin egg blue skies; the cottony, puffy clouds, laughter, the warmth of the sun, and the cool breeze.” Went home and the son and I watched the Philly/Giants football game on a lazy, Sunday afternoon.

You have the eye of an artist…very cool pictures.

It may sound like a senior thing to do, but that may be because seniors are slowing down to notice things like autumn colors, after the whirlwind of earlier years. I imagine that God must be pleased whenever we intentionally take the time to notice and savor what he has created. I am disappointed with how quickly a meal that I have labored over to prepare is consumed…and no one even mentions/notices what they just ate. Might God feel the same way when we just speed past what He made? Good choice to go!

I had an amazing weekend. Saturday, I went on a long run with a group of people from Fleet Feet, ate at Pancake Pantry, watched football, and went to the Symphony. Awesome day! Sunday, my roommate and I did what we always do which is: church, lunch, and then sit a Frothy Monkey all afternoon and read. Sundays are always my favorite!

We took the kids and went to Lake Barkley, went to the Lodge for lunch and spent the afternoon walking by the water and looking at God’s beautiful creations, including our two children that the Dr. said that we would never have.

I stayed in my pj’s pretty much all weekend! After a long week at work, it was much needed rest. I also helped my Dad get rid of some of his 80′s and 90′s styled clothes … talk about a blast from the past! haha

This coming weekend is my weekend of fun … I’m heading to Nashville!! So this week cannot go fast enough for me – I head out Thursday morning. Yay!

  37. Sarah Joy November 11, 2008 at 2:22 am #

P.S. Forgot to say, great pictures!! Can’t wait to see what you come up with using a good camera. :)

Oh I love daytrips!!! I love traveling but being able to sleep in my own bed at the end of the day is wonderful! Here in N.C. we have all kinds of wonderful places that can be visited within a couple of hours of Charlotte. Day trips rule!

I worked this past weekend and the only fun thing I did was quit my job! Now, I will have weekends to do fun things like hiking, shopping, and hanging out with friends.

all of these are so good, but that top pic. is just AM-A-ZING! I think photography might be your second calling. Seriously, you’re getting really good. I’m jealous. I think you’re earning that new camera Brand said you want for Christmas quite well. :)
