@britt, while you could belt out everyone of these songs better than anyone I know, I’m afraid your a bit too young for it. :)

  9. Seems like they were really getting into “dontcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me” (probably because they could understand the words) and the disrobing was slightly alarming LOL just kidding! Kudos to the choir director!

I wonder what was in the elements that got them all to agree to do that? Thanks for the laugh.

  14. This is a hoot!! What a great sense of humor these old, I mean, senior folks have… My favorite part was the dancing, and of course, the “disrobing” at the end!! Thanks for the laugh this morning!

  15. I have an uncle who sang “It’s getting hot in here” in his Sunday School room (because it was hot) without thinking about what the next line was. My aunt was so mad at him. He isn’t quite old enough for a senior choir, but I might pass this on so he can get his voice in shape while he waits.

  16. Pete,
thanks! Can’t wait to hear YOU sing. Here are my suggestions on how you can best use these fabulous songs.
    1. Lose Yourself (Emenem) The song speaks about not being lazy so maybe that part in the bible (Proverbs?) about making excuses for doing stuff cause a lion might eat you.
    2. Ridin Dirty (Chamillionaire) the song talks about not wanting a cop to find out that you’re hidin a gun in your car. Mat 10:26-27 (NIV) “There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.
    3. Hey Ya (Outkast) has an anthemic, joyful chorus. Psalm 98 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth.
    4. Don’t Cha (Pussy cat dolls) This song celebrates the world’s view of women. Maybe you could use this song by juxtapositioning it with Proverb’s description of a Godly woman.
    5. Can’t Touch This (MC Hammer) You could do a sermon about Jesus’s followers worrying about eating certain foods or with people who didn’t follow their customs.. and explain what Jesus said about it’s not what you eat..cause it’s passing through you.
    6. Hot In Here (Nelly) Clearly a sermon on Hell. ha!

  32. Everyone needs to find the movie Young@Heart. It is a story about a seniors choir outside of Boston. Several years ago, the choir director started to incorporate pop and rocks songs into their performances.

The movie opens with a 99 year old former burlesque dancer singing “Should I stay or Should I go?” And an incredibly moving performance of Coldplay’s “Fix you.” There wasn’t a dry eye in the room at the Nashville Film Festival.

Best movie of the year. It’s at blockbuster… maybe on Netflix. Defiantly available for purchase on amazon. Their CDs are on iTunes. It’s an awesome story.. make you feel good and it’ll make you cry.

This was hilarious! My favorite bit was when they were all “rapping” to Lose Yourself, except you can’t understand a WORD anyone is saying. I will be laughing about this next time I get up to sing in the choir….
