Caramal Apples and Fudge Rounds

She made caramel apples for the boys on Thursday night. They LOVED them. Well, at least they loved the caramel, I’m not sure they ate much of the apple.

What was your favorite childhood dessert?

Mine was the ever delicious fudge round.

Those were the good days my friend–when you didn’t have to worry about calories or cavities.. Enjoy them. Your boys are great!

Hands down the BIG Stick popsicle. We use to walk to the corner store when I was little and everyone in the family would get one….great memories. But, I can not get them here where I live, which translates into me eating 2 or 3 a day when I am in Cali…kind of like In-N-Out Burger….when you are forced to go with out you kind of overdose when they are available.

Jello – my mom used to make us Jello cups – sometimes with fruit in it, sometimes two-toned, and always GOOD. Add a little milk and it was even better :)

You know there are usually Fudge Rounds in the green room, right?

Fudge Rounds are the bomb. I was a fat fourth grader because of Fudge Rounds.

Schwan’s orange push ups! My Grams always kept them in her freezer for me. :o )

For school lunches, my fave was Hostess HoHos. In fact, a lot of the time, I threw the sandwich in the trash and ate the potato chips and the HoHo only. At home, I had a mom who baked (lucky me), and my favorite of her offerings had to be cherry cobbler.

Cake! Carrot Cake is the best but any kind will do. It’s a major weakness of mine.

On Friday night our family would gather in the living room to share a six pack of Mello Yello and a pan of homemade Rice Crispy Treats while we watched The Dukes of Hazzard. Those were some good times.

    Yum!!!

Mine was and will probably ever remain to be Chocolate Fudge Cake…

Then again, Chocolate brownie cheesecake is also good…

@Juliepersinger, Nobody ever tells me these things! Why didn’t I know they were in the green room? Now you know where I’ll be hanging out tomorrow.

The fudge round is one of God’s greatest creations. Do everyone a favor and get the larger sized ones from Wal-mart

Am I the only freak of nature who has no idea what a fudge round is??? I loved mom’s peanut butter balls that she’d make to have as snacks for when we’d spend a week at the lake over the 4th of July. She’s only make them once a year because we had no self control and the six of kids would sit and eat them until we were sick. But, oh they were good. Thank goodness skiing the rest of the week burned off the calories we ingested the first day.

@Anita… hilarious. I bought my friend’s little boys the first season of Dukes of Hazzard for Christmas last year, and then we sat wide-eyed at Daisy’s outfit and bikinis… I kind of forgot about that part. The boys didn’t notice but her husband loved the gift…

Those pictures of your boys eating the caramel apples are super cute!

My mom always made homemade popcorn balls this time of year.

@sara, judge rounds are made by the McKee Baking Company, the makers of the Little Debbie’s, and are delcious. My kids and now grandsons love them.

My personal favorite sweet growing up was the traditional ice cream sandwich.

  22. Harold McKee October 25, 2008 at 3:12 pm #

and that’s fudge rounds, not judge rounds

  23. Pete Wilson October 25, 2008 at 6:06 pm #

@Sara, you must have lived a deprived childhood. I didn’t know there was anyone who didn’t know about the fudge round.

  24. LeAnn October 25, 2008 at 6:30 pm #

    @Harold – don’t judge the fudge rounds.

  25. LeAnn October 25, 2008 at 6:32 pm #

My grandmother’s homemade chocolate chip cookies that she always had waiting for us in a container in her old-fashioned icebox were my absolute favorite. No one made a chocolate chip cookie like her. I miss you, Ma!

  26. sara October 25, 2008 at 8:10 pm #

@Pete… yeah, you should feel bad for me. All those made from scratch baked goods instead of store bought… I truly don’t know how I survived. ;)

  27. Harold McKee October 25, 2008 at 8:10 pm #

@LeAnn, it says in the word, fudge not lest ye be fudged.

I can’t remember my childhood dessert but my wife just made some peanutbutter bon bons. I think I ate to many :(

  29. jaymz October 25, 2008 at 10:43 pm #

Frozen blueberries stirred in a bown with whipped cream. :)

  30. tam October 26, 2008 at 12:39 am #

our big treat was one of two things…

white wonder bread dipped in dark caro syrup

    or…

a tortilla heated on the open flame of a gas stove top, spread with butter, sprinkled with sugar then rolled up like a burrito.

    mmm-mmm.

  31. Bill (cycleguy) October 26, 2008 at 5:14 am #

Always has been and always will be ice cream. Didn’t get much when a child (pretty poor) but have made up for it as an adult! :) Particularly fond of mint chocolate chip.

  32. Pete Wilson October 26, 2008 at 6:19 am #

@Tam, I can honestly say that I have never had either one of those treats. We may have to try a new Wilson Sunday night dessert.

We’re health conscious though so we might use wheat bread to dip in the dark caro syrup. :)

  33. Amy October 26, 2008 at 3:43 pm #

my favorite dessert is either dirt cake or brownies. I can’t pick between them.

  34. andi October 26, 2008 at 7:20 pm #

I have to say that brownies are my all time favorite. I’ve been wanting to try these caramel apples with my kids… they’re mini and look so cute! (And they might actually eat the apple not just lick off the caramel) http://jas.familyfun.go.com/recipefinder/display?id=50565

ice cream!!! my affection for it hasn’t changed, it’s still my favorite!

I love caramel apples … my favorite childhood (and adult) treat is Mayfield’s Nutty Buddies. Every time we went to my mamau’s in Knoxville, the whole family would have them for dessert sitting on the back porch enjoying the view of the Smokies and the yummy treats. My hubby knows if I’m in a down mood that he can always cheer me with a nutty buddy!
