Her Secret is Patience

It was Ralph Waldo Emerson who said…

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience

While we camp with the family throughout the summer, Brandi and I have always tried to take a fall camping trip by ourselves. We’re spending a few days camping in the Smoky Mountains right now.

Today was wet and cold but we didn’t let it slow us down. We went to Cades Cove where we spent the day hiking back to the Abrams Creek Falls. Of course I did a little fishing along the way.

We’ve tried really hard over these two days to just slow down the pace. We’re discovering as we slow down…

Some of our best conversations happen on the hiking trails.

Some of our best dreaming about the future happens around the camp fire.

Some of her most relaxing times come sitting on a rock reading a book while I fly fish.

Some of our most awe inspiring God moments happen just looking around at God’s creation.

Here’s a few of my favorite pics from the day. Hope you can find a way to slow down today.

I hope you and Brandi have a great time! My favorite place to be in the whole world is the Smoky Mountains – Dan and I hope to retire there someday.
(Maybe we will run into you guys in 30 years or so.)

I too have a hectic schedule and need to slow down- last week I was having a rough day so I stopped. I walked to a local park, sat on a bench by the duck pond and just watched the ducks, the squirrels, the trees, just nature.
It was very calming and of course,I learned a dozen life lessons just watching the ducks be ducks, just as God had created them to be. The squirrels being..”squirrely”, the trees doing their job (shade, breeze). WHen all things created fulfill their God-given role, there is PEACE, ORDER, HARMONY.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Try as I might, I cannot think of camping as romantic, Pete!

Nature walks are a good thing, though, and I hope you two are having fun.

We love the mountains. I do prefer a condo to a sleeping bag though.

Hope you guys have a great time.

That waterfall over the rocks with the changing leaves … I could imagine myself there and feel myself relax. It’s really stunningly beautiful. Thanks for sharing and I hope you are soaking in every moment.

The photos are beautiful. We all need those unstructured relaxing days. After a week that included an unexpected hospital stay for my son for appendicitis we needed a break! Today we took the kids to a park, walked the trails, and sat on a bench together while they played. No schedule, no deadlines. Aaaaahhhh! (He’s recovered from surgery quite quickly and is doing well) :)

I think nature calls us to the heart of God, if we will slow down and let it. We just got back from the Smokies and the peace just seeps into your bones and heart, doesn’t it? Great great pictures. I’m so impressed with your photography. You captured the moment as well as the scene.
