Here is my journal entry from October 15th, 1993. I was a sophomore in college.
Today was a great day for classes. My voice and diction class lasted only 30 minutes. After class Kevin and I went to the mall and had lunch at Long John Silvers.
I found out that Katy Bridges wasn’t going to Andreas’s house this weekend. Apparently her grandmother died. I’m so bummed. I was really looking forward to spending some time with her.
I was upset at first but a girl named Brandi took her place on our road trip. She was so much fun. We went to the McClean County homecoming game and then we all (me, Paul, Andrea and Brandi) went to Chi-Chi’s for dinner in Owensboro, KY.
Late that night Brandi and I went out to the dock at Laura’s house together and just talked about life. It was great! Around 1:00 a.m. it started to rain. I knew there was something different about her from the moment she got in the car with us to leave campus. We stayed up all night talking!
We looked through the Sears Catalog and picked out toys for our kids. We pretended like we had a boy who was 5, a girl 2, an she’s pregnant with another. Don’t I wish.
Oh by the way, Brandi is engaged to a very large WKU football player. This could be a problem.
Dear Brandi,
I fell hard for you 15 years ago and I haven’t stopped falling. I wouldn’t be me without you. I love you. Here’s to another 15 years of getting to know you even better.

Congrats dude and dudette! May you have tons more! And I noticed that your stories don’t match up. I will take her side on this one!
Congratulations! Love to read about couples still in love!!! Awesome stuff! Shelby
so so sweet.
Those aviator sunglasses are back in style.
Perhaps you should bring back the hairdo.
You still have the little girl part of the planning to work out, better get busy. lol
Congrats.
So so precious!!! I’m diggin the sunglasses!
Happy Anniversary you two. Have a wonderful day and may God continue to bless you and amaze you!
You’re the man! What a positive effect she’s had on you, to go from the guy in that pic to the smootheness you are today!!!
Congrats on the 15 years of togetherness. How great to be able to look back on your thoughts from when you first met. I met my husband on vacation – I have a weeks worth of pictures and three months of nearly daily letters back and forth (he saved all but the first one). I love to look back and remember the thrill of first meeting — and the thrill is still there 21 years later.
Congrats to you both! Pete – that is a very touching story.
(A) You journaled when you were in college?!!! How awesome is that?
(B) I would love it if I had written down my thoughts after my first date with my husband. We also met sophomore year of college, and I remember thinking similar thoughts about how easy he was to talk with and spend time with. In 2 weeks we are celebrating our 25th anniversary.
(C) Good job of remembering to “say” what you know others need to hear.
Awww, what a great picture!
Happy 15th anniversary from Lisa and I! We haven’t known you guys long but from what I’ve seen you make a perfect couple!
Many blessings on your life and marriage and best wishes for many more happy years ahead of you.
Happy Anniversary Guys!!
I have to ditto Brad… just start to get to know you and your wife through bloggin.. You guys are a a great couple.
I wondered how long it would take you guys to start in on the sunglasses and hair!
@Jan, I started my journal when I was a junior in high school.
Aw, this is one of the reasons journaling is so great. Thanks for sharing.
And picking out toys for your pretend children in the Sears catalog?! And it wasn’t even your first date? And Brandi had a boyfriend. Hilarious.
Amazing.
Must be the time for love and proclaiming it. I read Brandi’s blog…Mr. 31 flavors… how nice that you both posted about this particular day in your lives.
We celebrated 30 years yesterday and I have to say that I still love that man of mine. The love is different then it was 30 years ago but like wine, it only gets better with age.
Here is to more years together for you and Brandi and many blessings.
Such an awwww moment. How fast time flies. Glad you survived the pommelling you must of gotten from the big football player!
You can see God’s hand in your life there. Love it.
congrats to both of you!
This is an awesome post. Kind of got me all teary eyed. Dang. Much love and congratulations to you and Brandi, friend.
Priceless – that’s the kind of story everyone needs to have. 15 years now is a long time – Love reading your blog! Hope you have a special day!
Definitely a match made in Heaven. You guys are perfect together. Lots of love and prayers for the next 15.
I love the old pictures of the Waxy One. Chi-Chi’s now that is old school right there, I don’t think they are around anymore.
Congrats on the 15 years.
Blogging is increasing my need for kleenex. Glad Costco sells in bulk. This was sweeter than sweet. Thanks for sharing!
Roxx
Chi-Chi’s,now thats rock and roll!
OH I AM LOVING THAT PICTURE! HAHAHA!
Great story!
Awesome story … how did you get rid of the football player?
What a beautiful love story.
Great story, love it. All I have to say is that you are a bold, secure man for putting that picture up on the internet:)
Aww, you guys are such a cute couple! What a neat story!
I’m with Kristy…what happened to the football player???
Awesome love story, thanks for sharing!
Happy Anniversary!!! May What you have Grow Sturdy over the years to come..
Thank you for sharing.
that is just so darn sweet!
@Kristy and @ Pamela,
Well over the next few days I would discover that things were not going well between Brandi and Mr. Football. The relationship was kind of falling apart. They had been high school sweethearts. Captain of football team and the cheer leading captain.
For the record, I did not kiss her (a month later) until after she was officially broken up with Mr. Football.
For the next 3 years of college I was always watching my back. Mr Football was not real fond of me.
Congratulations Pete and Brandi!
That’s so sweet. And, I’m from Madisonville, Kentucky so I’ve eaten at that Chi Chi’s when I was a teen – great chimichangas! Small world. I love it that you had that journal entry to point back to the exact day you met her – what’s more romantic than that?! Congrats!
Great blog! Congrats Pete and Brandi. Wendy & I celebrate 12 years on Sunday. Very blessed indeed.
Jeff
Thats so awesome. Congratulations and best wishes on many, many, many more happy, fun-loving, adventurous days ahead.
Happy Anniversary.
Congratulations! Nice haircut.
That is awesome! But now you are obligated to tell the story of the duel you must’ve had with the football player.
I know you thank God for meeting Brandi and you should! I am positive that it’s Brandi’s sense of style that you are now sporting!
Oh Pete – this pricked my heart. Mainly because I am deeply in love with the man of my dreams. And that grows every day. We celebrated 21 years this year and we are still discovering new things every day. With “empty nest” at our house now, even the re-discovery has been SWEET! Congrats my friend. – Pam
wow! how cool to have not just the memories but also the documentaton. that’s a cool thing even for your kids to see when the get older. much love and many blessings for that much and more.
but really…the glasses are total tom cruise. as a matter of fact, you kinda resemble him in that pic
Brandi, kudos to you for those awesome RayBans
Pete, those glasses, yikes!
And the rest is history… Thanks for sharing such a nice memory. Congratulations on 15 years. Its pretty cool to know from the beginning that God has sent a special person. Love that pic too.
That was awesome Pete, I’d love to hear Brandi’s take on that first meeting!
Thanks for filling in the gaps about Mr. Football I was curious.
Prayers for the two of you and your precious boys~
(I’m glad you were writing even way back in the day!)
Cool. My wifey and I just hit 13 years married yesterday. It is amazing how you can look back and think, wow, I could have screwed this up so many times
Wow! Awesome post. I hope that when I find the one that we can make it 15 years
I love it. I love that you got the girl over the captain of the football team. I love sitting on a dock talking for hours … everything is better with a lake setting. I love that you guys take the time to remember and reminisce. And I love that you have the same haircut that my nephew had when he was three.
All in all, good stuff.
Lovin it! The last line of your journal entry made me laugh.
My middle brother had that haircut too.
Awe, how sweet!
It sounds like love at first site. I want to remind your unmarried readers that it doesn’t always happen like that. My sweet husband likes to remind me that when I first met him I told people he reminded me of Jethro from The Beverly Hillbillies. Eventually, I came to think of him looking more like Antonio Banderas. (although, I’ve always thought Jethro was pretty cute)
That is so sweet, Congratulations!
@Britt, Very true. Great love stories come in all shapes and sizes.
Pete & Brandi congrats
Dude that is awesome!!!
Also…Way to look at the Giant football player, laugh in his face and steal his girl!
Oh my stinkin’ word. Do you realize what a GIFT that is to have your thoughts written down from the first day you met?!? That’s AWESOME!!!
I love your wife.
@Marla Taviano, Some day I’ll share more. It’s really neat to go back and read the day by day of the first year of our relationship. Mistakes and all!
Congrats you two! The next 15 will be even more amazing I am sure!
Congrats! I, too, have an awesome marriage (25 years this past July) and I also have my journal from when we first started dating. Aren’t we blessed? I loved Brandi’s post too.
wow, that just made my day soo much better! i laughed at the football player line…love it! thanks for sharing
Congrats dream team!
Dig the hair and shades.
She looks the same…you look like a dork. Just kidding, bro CONGRATS! Thanks for having an open journal (blog) to us now.
