Searching

This morning I headed an hour East to one of my favorite places to spend an early morning. I took a few pictures for you that I posted below.

I love to fly fish.

I used to think I was out there on the river searching for the elusive big trout.

In reality I think I’m searching for more.

Maybe it’s a few moments where nothing is ringing, nobody is pulling at me and I don’t feel the need to be “on”.

Maybe it’s that quiet moment where I hear nothing but the river drifting by me and God’s whisper that He created this for my enjoyment.

Maybe it’s friendship and great conversation that can only be created over a common passion.

I’m searching for more.

My husband says fly fishing is the only place he’s quiet.

    I totally GET that.

I need some “more” today. I have to get away and be alone and recharge or I start to crumble. Even if it’s only for a few hours.

I’m searching for something more, too, but I really hope I don’t have to go fishing to find it. My husband has worked more hours and overnighters than I can count in the past 3 weeks and leaves tomorrow to go out of town for a week. I fear my “something more” is going to have to find me.

This made me smile. This feeling is so universal, no matter which part of the world you come from. That knowing that theres more to us and life than what seems to be our seeming identities in everyday busy-ness. That knowing that makes us search. Its usually an indication that you need to Rest, let the quiet center envelop you, let the universe rejuvinate you and then you can give the best part of you to others. :) .

My search is still on. I find what it is and then I find something else and I want more. Greedy arent I?

it does look so peaceful… i’m glad my husband has something like that to do… he’s super sweet after going fly fishing.

I think any time we feel the need to get alone we are searching, but at the same time, whether we realize it or not, God is seeking. I’ve learned some of life’s greatest lesson’s trying to get away for a while.

Well, that’s enough spirituality. I’ve never fished for trout but we used to do the farm pond circuit with a fly rod. I always used a black gnat with a yellow popping bug on top. Every so often, you’d get two at one time. I guess I need to start fishing again. I feel the fever. lol

Like to fish, love to hunt. For me it’s mostly being out in the woods, listening, thinking and praying. For my wife it’s being behind the piano alone.

I must decrease, he must increase!

You and your family should venture out someday to the Green River in Utah for some amazing fly-fishing. Big fish and great scenery. Also, tonight you should take your wife to see the movie FIREPROOF. My husband and I went with our Sunday school class last night and had a wonderful night.

My husband has a fishing buddy. They totally bond by standing there holding sticks.

I don’t get it. But he comes back better for it.

Glad you had that time, Pete!

Yeah Pete, couldnt agree more. I could care less if I catch anything either… just something about being there, in the silence, feeling the power of the water pushing against my waders… 10-2-10-2-10 And when you relax JUSSSST enough, it is amazing to see that line extend forward, almost beyond where it logically SHOULD go, and magically into the very space it belongs. Fly fishing is for the saints.

Yeah. Did you hear that ya’ll. I am TOTALLY sweet after fishing! Maybee I will be sweet tomorrow after hunting.

Just for the record, loss of mancard or not, and not to “Sap Up” Wilsons blog here, but as an outdoors enthusiast, I am very VERY blessed to have a wife that understands my passion to spend time with God in nature.

@ScottMocha I am with you and all, but I really like catching something!! I just can’t lie to you all now! I am so very much “sweeter” when I catch fish! Ya’ll check out Blind & Stream!

Everyone needs that “something” that takes them away and allows them to refresh and regroup . We all need to be still long enough to hear the Lord.

Pete, you know my thoughts on this very topic. It is amazing what a quiet morning in the woods or on the stream does for my soul. Time in the outdoors is where I learned to cherish every moment with my father. Time in the outdoors makes me a better son, husband, friend and father.

Some incredible men in the past have a been known to head in to the wilderness when seeking guidance…

I value the moments we all had together out on the Caney and look forward to future memories on the stream as well. Perhaps when you and Brandi buy that nice little cabin up in the hills…?

Oh, the sweet embrace of nature – where all of life’s secrets can be discovered. I too feel transformed, whole, and closer to God while appreciating the simple pleasures of our magnificent world.

I’m told the closer your are to God, the more you appreciate His beauty in nature.

Years ago when I lived in Northern Ontario Canada, I flew float planes that brought eager outdoors man into the far reaches of the wild.

The areas that I would fly them out to, had very little besides a boat and motor with a rustic cabin. For many of them the fishing was a side thought to the fellowship and peace they enjoyed. I know this because during those years I often too would get away from my own schedule to stand on the float of the plane and cast out a line into …

…for each of us it may be something different, that draws us to these places. I had the privilege to be blessed to live in an area mostly untouched and unharmed by footsteps.

There was an interesting connection that many of the pilots I worked with shared. We all experienced the presence of God in this one particular location on the Attawapiskat River that flowed into James Bay. It was Bateau Lake, which was basically an elbow on this river. It did not matter what part of Canada the pilots came from, to a person the presence and beauty of God was felt by all. It was remarkable. I have not been to a place that had so much plenty, birds, fish, moose, beaver, sturgeon, it had it all.

I would sit there some times alone and soak it all in, I knew that I may never get back there as a pilot, I do return though in peace and fellowship with others through short stories and fishing tales.

There are places and moments away from the noise of life where you can be alone with yourself and with the sounds of heaven. It is where pure inspiration and the greatest rejuvenation of the soul happens. I cherish those moments. in those moments, we are the closest to Mother Earth and to the heartbeat of the Spirit of God.
