It’s Good To Have Friends With Gas

Yesterday most of you read my rant about our gas crisis here in Nashville. Well, my friend, accountability partner, and fellow elder, Brian Alexander, read about my situation on twitter and jumped in to help.

In honor of Brian I thought we could make this “Brag on Your Friend Day”.

So why don’t you take a second and tell us about something kind one of your friends has done for you lately.

Proverbs18:24 A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

  1. We’re not out of gas south of the ATL, but my friend did run out of gas last week after church and went to rescue her from the grass that was as tall as her car because the GA DOT is cutting back on grass cutting because of the gas! Anywho…we have church on Tuesday and Wednesday night so my friend offered to cook a meal for our families to have at church before service because we have to be there early for different activities our children are invloved in. I work and she is a stay at home mom. Nothing like GREAT friends!

  9. My friend to brag on is my sister-in-law who has been staying with us to help my wife Jamie, with her morning sickness. Jessi has been staying for four weeks now. Not only has she been helping around our house, she even helps on Sundays at church without complaint.

She is headed to Texas this week to pick up a new custom guitar and to play a couple events. We will be praying for her that she can find gas to buy along the way as well and safe travels.

My dear friend Erin came by to drop pick something up I had made for her and stayed to help the girls and I get to the doc for a re-check! It was such a blessing to have HELP carrying everything to the car and then have some adult conversation! I didn’t expect it, which is what made it all the more special.

  12. Wow – great story. It’s good to have friends, huh? As trite as it may be, I want to brag on my wife. She gets me more than anyone. She has a beautiful way of calling me out while still encouraging and affirming me to be who God made me to be. I’m grateful that above every other role she plays in my life that she is first and foremost my friend. It’s good to have a companion to come home to and eat breakfast with in the morning. This first year of marriage has been filled with more laughter than I would have ever expected. It seems that at the end of a long day, we all need someone who can make us laugh. Ashley does that for me.

  27. Not to brag or anything, but I could totally get into a “my friend is better than your friend” match with anyone because I have CRAZY amazing friends. I literally, and I mean literally, couldn’t do my life without them. But my favorite things are the stupid little things. Like the fact that I hear from each of them every single day without fail. I can’t leave my house, so when my friend Susie called me at 10:00 last night and said, “I know you like to live vicariously through us, so let me tell you about my day with the boys…” and then had me in stitches for 45 minutes. I’m telling you, the little things make every day seem so much better.

@Giant Idiot: I had a remark for you but since I don’t actually know you I thought I’d better keep it to myself and not get in trouble. :) But with a name like idiot it’s kind of hard to…

Having had friends in the past that wanted just me without my kids, I am so thankful that God sent her my way. She has been a HUGE blessing to my life, and is just so fun to hang out with and be around. She brings me joy. I don’t know how I’ve made it without her all these years. 33. I could go on forever about so many of my friends, but I’ll mention here my friend Heather. She goes above and beyond so many times. I just got married a few months ago, and she not only threw us a shower and made tons of awesome food for it, she came down to the wedding and took care of everything from cleaning the beach to overseeing the florist, setup and caterers, to making sure I stayed calm and worry-free and fed all day! She’s amazing! Every time I’m sick she cooks for me, calls me every day to see how I am, and keeps me encouraged.
I also have to brag on my best friend, my husband Ken. Because I get home later than he does every night, he goes to the grocery, makes sure we have something for dinner, and he’s also made lunch for me this week because he knows I won’t do it! He also helps out in many other ways and usually never complains!

Now I’m fully capible to do it myself..but I’m dealing with some back issues currently…so I know she’s offering it because she wants to bless me and if I’d refuse I’d take away the blessing “she” would receive by giving me mine! 42. Here in SW Ohio, we were without power for almost 9 days as a result of a Hurricane Ike-style windstorm. Our house was almost the last to get power back, so my friends who had their power restored allowed me to come over to do laundry (14 loads, as I have 5 kids) and use their internet connection, brought us a hot cooked meal, and offered us all kinds of support. Neighbors helped each other clean up the yard debris, we had neighborhood “clean out the melting refrigerator” barbeques, and we got to know each other quite a bit better because there was nothing really to do inside the house, so we all came outside and talked. Okay, I admit it got old not having electricity, but it was really nice in so many ways.

So I won’t name one person in particular, but I will say that our family feels quite blessed to have the friends and neighbors we have!
