My Man Crush | WithoutWax.tv by Pete Wilson

My Man Crush

I want to start this post by saying that I’m comfortable in my manhood. Comfortable enough to tell you that yes, I have a man crush. I actually have two right now.

1) Andy Stanley- I think this guy is hands down the best leader and teacher I have ever heard. I’ve never heard a single message from him that I didn’t walk away with a better understanding of God, of Scripture and how they apply to my life. I’ll be forever grateful for the model he’s been to me.

2) Matthew McConaughey- This one is a little more difficult to explain. Sunday night Brandi and I watched “Fools Gold” (I give the movie a c-). I know nothing about this man. All I know is that I believe he is one of the best looking dudes I’ve ever seen. I don’t think you can look that good from just working out. It must be good genes (at least that’s what I tell myself).

*Please don’t be upset Los. I want you to know you were a very close 3rd!

One of my colleagues has had a lot of fun at my expense as I’ve discussed my man crushes this week. So…she created this picture for me.

I present to you Andy McConaughey…

I love it! The combo picture is great. :)
I am a big fan of Andy as well. I had a chance to visit Northpointe in Alpharette for a Thirsty conference a few years ago. The speakers were Andy Stanley, Louie Giglio, Francis Chan, and some other great ones.

Andy is truly a gifted teacher who presents the gospel in ways that people today can understand, and he does it without watering it down.

As for Matthew McConaughey – I agree on the rating for Fool’s Gold. And the genetic predisposition to looking good.

  2. brandiandboys September 5, 2008 at 7:35 am #

okay – Fools Gold gets a solid B, for no other reason than Matthew is shirtless through most of the movie (although his hair is a little too long for my taste).

Glad you know what you like in a man. :)

  3. Jan Owen September 5, 2008 at 8:14 am #

i think the picture is just scary…… :)

  4. Tommy Sircy September 5, 2008 at 8:17 am #

I’m almost never speechless, but I am now.

I do agree with you on Andy Stanley.

Btw, Cindy will agree with you on McConaughey.

  5. bradruggles September 5, 2008 at 8:20 am #

Holy crap! That’s like…THE PERFECT MAN!!

Andy McConaughey – he’s got killer abs, great hair, and he’s hands down one of the best speakers I know.

I’m so glad God didn’t put that much coolness in one man because I don’t think anyone could ever compare.

  6. bill (cycleguy) September 5, 2008 at 8:22 am #

Hey! How did you get that picture of my body? I thought it was classified as “Personal”? Haven’t seen Fool’s Gold but do have Sahara. That was a fun romp. I too agree about Andy. His book on Making Vision Stick was excellent.

  7. bill (cycleguy) September 5, 2008 at 8:24 am #

Forgot: “I wish” inserted after “Personal” :)

  8. Starwoodgal September 5, 2008 at 8:41 am #

Okay – that is a coffee spew moment! Funny stuff!

I saw Fool’s Gold in the theater back in Dec when if first came out and the scenery made me want to go to the Bahamas. But, then again, I don’t go in the ocean so what good would that do me, right? Well, maybe if MM was there I’d go in the ocean…….then again, probably not. People would think it was weird that I’d swim fully clothed, in a shark cage, with a life jacket on. Is that weird? :)

  9. Fran September 5, 2008 at 9:07 am #

That is too stinkin funny!! I have a feeling that picture is going to be limited only to your blog either!! :) Be careful and watch out.

  10. Joey September 5, 2008 at 9:16 am #

I think that he could have gotten a better looking dog for the photo….hee hee!

  11. Rindy Walton September 5, 2008 at 9:18 am #

Funny, funny–thanks! I agree with both choices too ;)

  12. Jennifer Griffin September 5, 2008 at 9:31 am #

You have me rollin’ dude! That is so funny. I’m glad you are secure with your manhood. I’m Andy will love this picture if he sees it one of these days. I agree….both guys rolled into one would be too perfect. Only you Pete….I can only see you posting this one.

If you tanned the dude in the picture some it would allow Los to feel better….he could be the third in the mix! :)

  13. jarrodmorris September 5, 2008 at 9:44 am #

This answers so many questions that I’ve had about you!

  14. Ashley September 5, 2008 at 9:44 am #

    This is hilarious.

Buckhead Church (part of North Point) was our church before we moved from Atlanta! We love Andy as well. We look forward to visiting Crosspoint again this Sun.!

  15. Harold McKee September 5, 2008 at 9:54 am #

Pete if you have plans to attend the tailgating event this weekend. I really think I would change them. I’m really afraid of what your guys might do to you after this.

  16. Harold McKee September 5, 2008 at 9:54 am #

I mean, not to plant any ideas in their heads or anything…

I wouldn’t want to do that.

  17. George R. Eddy September 5, 2008 at 10:09 am #

I’m not quite sure I understand how this “man crush” thing works. What kind of love is involved?

  18. Rachel Rowell September 5, 2008 at 10:14 am #

Oh my gosh! Too funny. Really, you think Matthew M. is good looking? I mean, yeah he might have a nice bod at all, but I’ve always found it strange that so many woman….and men apparantly ;) think he’s good looking because I don’t think besides his physic (is that how you spell that?) that he’s all that good looking at all.

Maybe he’s just not my type. Then again, it might be the fact that a man that admits that he doesn’t wear deoderant because he likes his own natural smell kinda grosses me out just a tad.

  19. Rachel Rowell September 5, 2008 at 10:16 am #

BTW…….No worries, I have a gal crush on Darlene Szcheck, Faith Hill, and Reese Witherspoon. I just think they’re awesome! And no one can deny their hotness! hehe!

  20. Dave Carrol September 5, 2008 at 10:25 am #

    Kevin Costner’s mine… no doubt…

In his day… THAT was a fine lookin dude
    (as judged by a dude)

  21. Jennifer Griffin September 5, 2008 at 10:37 am #

I was checking in and my son it sitting beside me. He looked at the picture you had on here and said…”wow…nice dog!” LOL!

  22. ally September 5, 2008 at 10:56 am #

Andy will always hold a special place in my heart as I accepted Christ while attending NPCC. It was the first time a sermon had felt relevant to my life, and I couldn’t stop going. Each Sunday the message felt like it was written for me, and after I moved, I continued to listen and learn online.

Now I’m hooked on Tim Keller and the way he weaves the gospel into every single message.

  23. Joe Case September 5, 2008 at 11:23 am #

Now I’m crushed…I always thought is was ME you had the man crush on! :)

  24. sara September 5, 2008 at 11:26 am #

I don’t know who Andy is, but Matthew I could pick out of any photo no matter what the setting. Here’s a little random tidbit of information for you. He doesn’t wear deoderant. He thinks women are attracted to his natural smell. And every female castmember of SNL said it was NOT attractive.

He’s hot, but I think the no-deoderant-thing kind of ruined it for me. Especially since in every photo of him he’s working out. That just can’t be a good combination.

So… that was the depth of my spiritual insight for the day! :)

  26. Marla Taviano September 5, 2008 at 11:43 am #

Dude, are you SURE you’re comfortable in your manhood?

  27. Pete Wilson September 5, 2008 at 12:04 pm #

@Marla Taviano, as the day wears on I might be having a few doubts. :)

  28. jalack September 5, 2008 at 12:04 pm #

one of my long time friends admitted to me that if he were a woman George Strait would be the one he would throw his panties at….I agree with him.

  29. jalack September 5, 2008 at 12:05 pm #

oh course Pete Wilson would be my other.

  30. dewde September 5, 2008 at 12:07 pm #

I could have lived my whole life without seeing that.

What’s all this talk about McConaughey and no deodorant? This is news to me!

  32. writethismusic September 5, 2008 at 12:33 pm #

Only on the Crosspoint Community Church blog would you find a discussion about who we’d throw our panties at if we were girls. I love it.

I’d have to go with Blake Shelton or Rob Morrow (from the T.V. show Numb3rs). Those two guys are the epitome of cool. Hey, maybe if Blake finds out he’ll cut one of my songs!…now why on earh didn’t I think of this before?!!!

  33. OCD-ism/Obsessive Christian Disorder September 5, 2008 at 12:35 pm #

McCONAUGHEY????????????!!!!! Yeah, he looks good….from the neck down!

  34. sara September 5, 2008 at 12:38 pm #

@Pete… you obviously need to read People magazine more often. Some of us have priorities like that. :)

Too funny….man crush…hmmmmsounds like a new drink or something.
No deodrant..that’s way too manly for me, I want to see manliness (nicely) not smell it. Are you sure you want a smelly guy for your man crush?
Matthew….Andy….is this the ridiciouls to the sublime. You have quite a sense of humor there Pete.

  36. candidchatter September 5, 2008 at 1:06 pm #

I heart Brad Pitt. I just think that man is beyond beautiful.

  39. Tracey September 5, 2008 at 2:35 pm #

Too funny Pete. You are topping yourself all the time man!!

  40. Jenn Hesse September 5, 2008 at 3:06 pm #

I haven’t laughed out loud at a blog post in quite a while. Thanks for that. :-)

  41. Pete Hixson September 5, 2008 at 3:43 pm #

Pete – you are truly the man! Your manhood security seriously makes me feel better about myself. And great choices on both of these guys – I echo your words! The only person I maybe would have added would be the legend – Chris Farley! Now that would be a nice photo!

  42. tam September 5, 2008 at 4:30 pm #

    the dog is cute.

    thats all im sayin’

  43. melissa1970 September 5, 2008 at 5:07 pm #

    huh?

  44. Shelby September 5, 2008 at 6:51 pm #

Wow! Now, I recently read on one of your commenter’s sites that the use of the word wow is kind of showing ones lack of linguistically skill, but really, that’s all I got…wow:)

  45. Anita September 5, 2008 at 7:42 pm #

Pete, I’ve been praying for you ALL DAY. Do you feel any different? ;o) I have to hold my hand over the t.v. when Mr. McC. is looking too ripped out of respect for my husband. I generally say something like, “Woahhhh–I can’t look right now.” This seems to bother him more than when I just keep looking. It also means I saw about 1/4 of Fool’s Gold in the 3 times I tried to watch it. Okay, maybe I watched it all. I can’t say for sure.

  46. M. Steve Heartsill September 5, 2008 at 8:34 pm #

So…Pete…this is your man crush…who, then, would be your girl crush? And why?

  47. tam September 5, 2008 at 9:45 pm #

shelby said – “I recently read on one of your commenter’s sites that the use of the word wow is kind of showing ones lack of linguistically skill”

    really???

    wow.

    dang.
    ;)

  48. sara September 5, 2008 at 11:38 pm #

@m.steve heartsill… it’s ok for Pete to reveal a man crush, but I’m wondering if maybe a girl crush would need to be approved by the wife before publication. You know, to be considerate and make sure she’s a crush pick that Brandi wouldn’t want to kill him for choosing over her.

You know, just trying to head off potential fights or hurt feelings… being a woman I think of these things… :)

Hilarious ! I am rolling on the floor over this one !
Good or bad, I’ve just got to check out “Fool’s Gold”
    now !!!

  50. Richard September 6, 2008 at 8:28 am #

Oohhhh Pete…as you know we are about to start Men’s Fraternity. I’m not sure if we should un-invite your or to lean a little harder on your attendance so you can unpack!

  51. Kristie September 6, 2008 at 8:49 am #

    Too funny, Pete!
I’m with ya, but, did you ever find out about the deodorant thing? That’s gonna make a difference for me…..

  52. LeAnn September 6, 2008 at 9:28 am #

Hilarious! That’s one of those celebrity-caught-without-makeup pics, right?

  53. LeAnn September 6, 2008 at 9:29 am #

    (No offense, Andy)

  54. mke September 6, 2008 at 1:41 pm #

I’m with you on Uncle Andy. Although I do have to admit that that photo is both really funny & really disturbing.

  55. danielle September 6, 2008 at 10:22 pm #

    Pete,

Let me just say….me, my husband and my brother in law all have crushes on Matthew McConaughey as well. How can you not? I’m sure there’s a group we could all join on Facebook or somethin’!

I, too, was sadly dissappointed with Fools Gold. I love How to Lose a Guy so we bought this one without seeing it. :(

  56. sarah walston September 7, 2008 at 7:43 am #

OK this makes up for the smoked pig picture. Even with the altered face….LOL!! Who’s lookin’ at the face anyway!!!

    JUST KIDDING JUST KIDDING!!!!
