[...] Some thoughts on Republican Politics 1 09 2008 My blogging friend Pete Wilson is one of the few bloggers that I really respect and live their faith out in an honest way. Today, though, he asked for opinions on John Mcain’s choice to have Governor Sarah Palin to run as the VP with him for the presidential race. [...]

I think we’ll have to wait and see. *I* like her from what I know about her —- but I think a lot of it is going to come down to how she articulates and how she does in the debates. But ultimately — it’s about McCain & Obama isn’t it? ‘we’ have never paid that much attention to V.P’s before.
Let me just throw my flour coated hands up into the air and declare, “”we” have done it, the glass ceiling IT is broken”. Oh wait .. I am not one to believe everything I read but it isn’t looking good for the new VP candidate. Do we do back ground checks? Obviously not. I would think the folks that know Palin best would be the Alaskans, They seem to be more than happy to share the news articles … one person I just read was virtually banging his head on the wall.
Sorry, Eight is Still Enough for me.

I thought it was brilliant. But could we really see her as “commander in chief” if something happened to mccain? Not sure. I like her though….and what she stands for so far…a lot. We’ll see
from what i have read and see i like her, but i’m a long way from alaska so i know just the bit i’ve learned on fox news. i’m not a huge fan of either of the presidential nominees and so far i like her better than either of them.
Palin/Jindal 2012.
The jury is still out for me. I am still trying to take it all in and need to educate myself more about her. The move is definetly an interesting one and makes this race a continued historic landmark for this country.
i definitely wasn’t expecting that announcement (i would have put my money on romney). at first i thought it was a good move, but the more i thought about it i wasn’t so sure. i think it’s crazy that he picked a running mate based on meeting her only twice. but hey, i’m a person who decides a lot based on my gut, so who knows?
it think we have a lot more to learn about her before decisions can be made.
BRILLIANT
I’m sure he picked a running mate based on a LOT of information and help from a LOT of people. With tons of information we’ll never have access to. Even though the president is one person and the v.p. is one person – it is totally a group effort on everything. There’s always a LOT LOT LOT of behinds the scenes people – more than we realize!
BRILLIANT – Best move McCain could have made. SO proud!!
@nicole, I was betting on Romney as well.
I like her. But, unlike most of the people who get on the internet and sound off, I haven’t made up my mind yet. My son asked me yesterday, “Why do you like her?” I told him. I then asked him, “Why do you like Obama?” He told me. I’m not sure I could have done that at 13. We disagreed a bit. Welcome to America.
I’m sure someone will get on here and say, you still didn’t tell us why? I never intended to do that. That’s the problem of late. We’ve started listening to what other people say instead of making decisions ourselves.
Here’s something we need to understand. We live in a world that has become inundated with information. Guess what? Much of it is not true, or half-truth, or twisted for a particular purpose. If that is cynical, I’m sorry. I don’t intend it to be. But, if you condider yourself civic-minded, you better remember it.
Now, the real information is out there, but you won’t get it it from the talking heads on TV. Look a little deeper, see if you can catch a glimpse of their real leadership qualities. And yes, a glimpse of their heart. We’re not electing a pastor or evangelist, we’re electing someone to lead, someone who has the ability to see the rights and best interests of all Americans, even the ones I don’t like, are safeguarded.
When I’ve done that, when I’ve prayed about it, I’m going to do something that a high percentage of the registered voters won’t do. I’m going to go vote! Then I’ve got a right to get back up on my soapbox.
As G.W. is so fond of saying, God bless America.
um, i wouldn’t say brilliant or brainless.
more like strategic.
I think brilliant might be a little strong, but I think all in all it’s a better move than his other choices (Romney, Leiberman, etc.) This way either way you vote we’ll see a more diverse and representative executive branch of government, and I think Americans desire that positive change.
I think this was genious move for him, but it was not an intelligent move…know what I mean?! In my personal opinion, the pick should’ve been Romney.
I am a life long Alaskan although living in Oregon at the moment. Sarah walks her talk. She has done what others would / could not do.
it has become startlingly apparent that the vast majority of people commenting on Palin have no idea who she is or what she has done. Things like trying to unseat corrupt Sen. Don Young (R), insisting on a state run probe of Sen. Ted Stevens (R), Resigned her position of AK Ethics Commish because of dirty lawmakers (R). and then went on to expose corruption within the Republican party. She severely cut Government spending in AK, shelved ridiculous Republican bills (Gravina Bridge), and is 100% AGAINST religion in the classroom.
She is probably the gutsiest one of the four. Our family has known her family for a while… what you see is the real deal!
Brilliant. Here’s why:
1. nobody knows her, but nobody hates her either
2. track record may not be decades deep, but it’s successful, consistent and has no failures
3. high moral values – I know the church she goes to, her family reputation is one of character
4. bi-partisan effectiveness – she’s negotiated sticky issues that required both parties to compromise and yet maintained an 88% approval rating in Alaska
5. she likes to drill for oil, but does not give the oil companies any slack…stood up the CEO of Exxon, doubled taxes, sets her own terms to play and ensures the people are benefited
6. she is high gov’t ethics which is needed
7. she contrasts McCain’s “Hi, I’m experienced but almost dead” image.
Hi, Pete. I am at my parents in GA and decided to check in on the blog. What about the TPS request???
This was a brilliant move. She is a legitimate Washington outsider. She has more executive experience than any of the candidates combined. She cleaned up the good ol’ boy network up in Alaska. I am curious simplycara who were you reading, sure there are going to be people in Alaska who have bad things to say about her but they are in the extreme, extreme, extreme minority. Check out her approval ratings, she has the highest approval rating of any governor in the country. She solidifies the base for McCain.
What I have liked best is how this pick blew Obama’s acceptance speech off the front pages. When she gave her speech in Dayton she did not use a teleprompter, something that Obama treats like Linus’s blanket. The other thing it has done is get the Democrats scurrying to come up with a response and the best one they had was citing her lack of experience with Obama’s. Seriously do they realize that they are comparing the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate’s experience with their PRESIDENTIAL candidate’s experience? They have tried to make it a race between Obama and Palin when it is a race between Obama and McCain.
I for one am glad it is not Romney, dude is a robot and would not have solidified the base like Palin does. One thing Romney does have is a tremendous amount of discipline to stay on point. Something that would help in a debate against “Plagiarizing” Joe Biden but I think Palin will handle herself just fine in the debate.
I think it was a great move. The Dems def didn’t see it coming and now they are scrambling. You can’t help but like her and what she has accomplished in her short time as gov. is amazing. Looking forward to hearing her speech. I def think she could hold her own especially against Biden!
@Giant Idiot, I think you should tell us what you really think!
In the words of John Stewart, her experience will be quite useful if we there’s ever a Northern Exposure reunion show!
I think her speaking voice is annoying, but at least she has less skin cancer than McCain.
that is President Giant Idiot to you all!
Good move for McCain.
Brilliant!!
Heidi Reed
When I first learned of it I was SO shocked and surprised I posted that I thought it was a brilliant strategic move. After the shock wore off and I had more time to think about it I changed my mind. Now I think it was a terrible decision, mostly because it makes McCain appear totally inconsistent in his thoughts toward people being prepared or experienced enough to run or co-run our country and it shows McCain is clearly thinking that absolutely nothing will ever happen to him in office that would allow Palin to step up to Commander in Chief.
From an emotional point of view, if that were to ever happen, yes, as a woman, with God’s help, Palin probably would be fine running the United States of America…BUT when I look at it from just a logical and factual point of view…I don’t think anything in politics has ever scared me so much in my life.
I think all of us need to do a lot and a lot and a lot of praying.
I’m with Alan. Palin/Jindal 2012!!
@mpt
“In the words of John Stewart, her experience will be quite useful if we there’s ever a Northern Exposure reunion show!
I think her speaking voice is annoying, but at least she has less skin cancer than McCain”
Are you for real? That is quite possibly the most hateful thing I have heard today, but then again, it’s pretty early.
And to anyone that bases any part of their lives on John Stewart’s standards: They make medication for that…
I haven’t made a decision. At all. But one thing in the back of my mind is McCain’s age and health. If he dies in office, what kind of President would she be? How would she handle another situation like September 11th? Does she have enough experience to be commander in chief? I usually wouldn’t think excessively about the VP…but with McCain being so old, I feel like I need to be more interested than usual.
It’s getting ugly in here. I got a feeling there is more of that to come over the next few months!
I really like what what I have heard from her so far. However, his pick wasn’t going to change my vote. McCain would have had my vote regardless. I’m amazed to hear people say that they haven’t made up their minds. How can people not be educated about these two men at this point? The are so different. Do people not know their own political/moral views well enough to make the obvious choice? If you know yourself at all, you should have a clear choice between Obama and McCain. They aren’t close on any major issue. Come on America. We have such a privilege here to be able to choose our own leaders. Educate yourself and make the best decision you can for your country.
I told my wife that this will either be a shot in the arm or the head of McCain’s campaign. But, I don’t want a President that plays it safe. We need smart decisive leadership for our country.
Personally, I love the choice of Palin. Why?
- Loves God
- She has done amazing things for Alaska
- Great Family
- Smart
- Tremendous balance to McCain’s age, gender, more…
I vote brilliant.
I actually think it is a fairly brilliant move. I think it interests female voters. I for one would be more apt to vote for her than for Hillary, so she reaches a different demographic perhaps. As for experience, Obama doesn’t have much either, which is a grave concern for me. It definitely makes things more interesting than – in my opinion – Joe Biden. Just my opinion !
It is wonderful to see a pro life person in this type of position. And her actions show her committment to the cause. She isn’t just a talking head.
Everytime someone ask me about this I try to think of something to say. I can only speak from where I am sitting. A lot of people have been saying this will help get the female vote. As an african american women who felt that it was insulting for people to assume I would vote for Obama because he was black, I think its insulting for people to assume I would vote for McCain because he choose a woman. Of course I think its insulting that people assume all christians vote republican or that all blacks vote democratic! As far as McCains pick for VP, I don’t know enough about her to make a comment.
She sounds good in many respects, but the fact that she would support McCain, who is far from all those things she is said to be (pro-life, anti-corruption, etc) gives me pause. As to any experience or lack thereof, all the “experience” shown by the two presidential candidates has only led them to demonstrable wickedness and political tom-foolery, so I don’t count that against her. But in the long run, it is really Obama & McCain that matter. The VP is usually just someone they pick to throw a bone to a particular demographic: in Palin’s case, actual conservative sorts who have been rejecting McCain.
She’s a straight shot, can clean her own game, has five kids and works outside the home, squeezes her exercise in ‘at midnight while it’s still daylight’, AND runs the state. I love her already!!
interesting…..just read that her 17 year old daughter (senior in high school) is 5 months preganant….wonder how that will spin
jennifer do you care to share your source or are you just perpetuating an Obama talking point that Palin’s youngest son is really her oldest daughter’s boy?
i read the Anchorage Daily News every day ob line (Alaska’s largest paper). Palin has confirmed that Bristol (her daughter)is indeed pregnant. Just thought that I would confirm it for you GI
I have five siblings who love to argue politics and make people (me) feel stupid if I don’t know the right answers. So I tend to not debate politics and simply vote my conscience… I’m not a fighter, I’m an avoider.
That being said, I would love to find a website with no bias. No rumors or inuendos. No promises that are being made but can’t be upheld. No taking credit for what you haven’t done. I want to know point by point what they’ve DONE, not what they want to do. Because after that, all the rhetoric is pointless. I surround myself with honest people who are true to their word. That’s what I want in a president and vice. Simple as that.

Ultimately does it really matter brilliant or brainless? God is in control it is all predestined to be.
So now how do I really feel about it, my first thought was, he’s appointed her because he’s only the Republican candidate and older and not African American, or a woman.
Ultimately I’m excited and hopeful. For many reasons that I’ve written and erased in the last five minutes doesn’t really matter. We’ll all find out at the same time. Wouldn’t it be just like God to pick someone like her?
BRILLIANT! Like the Genuiss commercials. However, he would have never done it unless he thought he was going to lose otherwise. Therefore, does it make this a shallow move?
Here’s what I know – most Republicans are going to work backwards. In other words, they believe that practically everything their party does is correct, therefore this move must be correct. I think if you’re being objective, you have to admit that the thought of someone with so little experience running the country is terrifying. Just as it is with Obama and his lack of experience. It seems to be a politically correct move to counter the PC-ness of Obama being African American. Again, if you’re being objective, there are some very serious and real concerns with the pick.
Lori I saw that. I thought Jennifer was talking about the nasty rumor by liberal bloggers that Trig (the baby with Downs) was actually Bristol’s. Apparently McCain knew that Bristol was pregnant when he met with Palin. I am sure the media is going to talk about this at great length and will not let it go. Seems funny that they failed to mention anything about John Edwards having an illegitimate child.
Brainless. This may not be a popular blog reply because to many, it will seem counter to breaking that darn glass ceiling. I am a mom. A full-time working mom. I KNOW the stress of balancing motherhood with a lifelong career. She’s got a newborn – with Down’s syndrome, and young children. My own experiences with raising children and working in a corporate job as well as ministry – well, there are costs. Family costs. Is she really ready for this? At what cost? What IF John McCain is elected, and then has health issues – could she lead this country? I do like that she is pro-life (hence, the reason she went forward having a child that in utero was found to have have Down’s syndrome). There are too many question marks for me. Risky and gutsy, for sure!
I think you have all proven the point of separation of church and state. I choose a candidate and a party that best represents the “Christian” values that I believe Jesus teaches. The question is which platform comes closest to representing LOVE and GRACE for everyone especially the last, the lost, and the least. Putting aside all the spin and strategy which candidate and party can best help us live out the vision that Pete’s “Crazy Love” series has taught us? “Everyone’s welcome, nobodies perfect, and all things are possible”.
What Cyndi said is Brilliant.
Have we had any great presidents (or really good ones) who came into office with limited experience? Anybody know? Where’s my Amer. History professor when I need him?
I think it was a great choice. I didn’t see it coming…it also was expecting Romney, but so far I think it was one of the best moves he could have made.
@Anita / Abraham Lincoln was not that experienced. He lost more elections than be won and he is considered the greatest president in American history.
His announcement further substaniates what I’d said shortly after returing to the USA after 30 years of ministry…it was like landing on a different plant.
His choice…Brainless
Can you imagine her engaging the personalites of Putin, Ahmadinajad (Iran), AlBashir (Sudan), Chavez (Venezuela), the Hezbollah, R. Mugabe (Zimbabwe), the Hamas…and numerous other world leaders that are continually creating conflict. BOTH candidates have said restoring US reputation in the world is of primary importance. Many of said that “who cares whet other nations think”…this attitude is dangerous thinking since we are living in a global economy (also…Both candidates agree)
How would she handle the ongoing issues in our large metropolitian areas? I’ve seen “well seasoned” politicians try and quell riots. It was a logistical nightmare…but their experience allowed them to not only restore peace, but foster a better ‘community’ environment….plus 101 other things. Senator Mc Cain’s choice was, indeed, unwise.
Antoher thing that bothered me, personally…I spent 30 yrs as a Humanitarian Aid Relief Coordinator and Educator for First Responders. This allowed me access to many nations across four continents. After 30 years expereince…I know for a FACT anyone going into a disaster area for a ‘photo op’…gets in the way of helping those in crisis. It reminds me of Pres Bush standing on the aircraft carrier announcing to the world “Mission Accomplished”. How many have died since the mission was accomplished? This being said……..
……Mc Cain & Palin saying they were immediatly going to the Gulf Coast appears (my opinion only) to be for a “photo op”. Let the ‘disaster relief’ people do their jobs. Don’t run down there so you can ‘wave to the people’ and gather a crowd. To get in the way, for their own personal gain of votes…is not a good choice. Their time for going to the Gulf coast was not the “right” time.
There were MANY “seasoned” Republican politicians (that happen to be women)….. that would have been a more viable candidate for Mc Cain.
I think both Obama and McCain made a vp choice that balanced their weaknessess and added to their strengths at the same time. Many network pundits have beat the dead horse with the, “We vote for the top of the ticket, not the VP.” But after 2 years of campaigning, I already know what the top of the ticket looks like, so the number two spot this year I think weighs more than previous elections.
That being said, I really like her. I like her non-Washington ways, her family background, and in some odd way I am glad that her “perfect little family” image is shattered with the announcement that Bristol is indeed pregnant. Talk about having someone who KNOWS America. I think she is refreshing, and that she appeals to a much broader female base that is untapped and un-impressed by Hillary.
Aside from ovaries and boobs, I have nothing in common with Hillary.
Michelle2005 / Was St. Barack not running on changing Washington and who does he choose as a running mate? Joe Biden who has been in the Senate for 36 years and since when does the VP have to deal with hostile foreign leaders? The next time that happens will be the first. My question is can Barack handle going against the leaders you mentioned and I believe he cannot. He will make Jimmy Carter seem like a tough guy if he is elected. The race is between McCain and Obama not Palin and Obama.
One more comment…why are people so concerned with her being a mom (this should be a positive thing for the cause of down syndrome) when the president is a dad and more than that…England has a Queen and she raised her children…obviously there will be help involved aside from her husband. Everyone has some kind of a skelton in their closet..so the fact they are digging deep on this one is no surprise. It seems less scary having her possibly run the country than the other VP. or even Obama.
Regardless of whether it was brilliant or brainless, something I heard this weekend I thought was very noteworthy. At the risk of sounding like part of the Falwell-style religious uber-right, we should think about this fact: The GOP’s Vice Presidential candidate has more executive experience than the Democrats’ Presidential candidate.
However you interpret that, I think that is something worthy of thinking about.
And I’m sure that by saying that, I’ll get some hate …I mean, heat. Sorry …I’m a bit dyxlesic sometimes =)
I’m voting: Brainless. Although this election is about McCain and Obama, we have to make a decision based on a complete ticket…which includes Palin. This is probably an unpopular stance as a woman, but I don’t know that a woman should have that kind of authority. How can you live according to Proverbs 31 (within your household) and run, (to an extent as VP and more broadly as The President), the country? There is going to be a breakdown somewhere and in light of recent findings, (I’m not taking punches just being realistic), it’s most likely going to be at home. I’m not letting men off the hook, they definitely have a role at home, but a woman’s role is that of a support to her husband and not to the Commander in Chief of the USA.
Thanks Alan! You’re sweet too. Sorry, sometimes the truth hurts man.
i like the new running mate. i don’t know anything about her but i think i’ll vote for her. maybe flights to alaska will get cheaper if sh is in office!
@Crystal: Your post just took us back to the 1800s. My wife could be president… and I’d support her proudly…
Pete… do we get to know your opinion?
Brilliant – enough said!
I agree with those who have said that it is too early to say whether it was a brilliant or brainless move, but so far I am thinking brilliant. I am praying for Sarah Palin as I know she will have to withstand intense scrutiny and will get “beaten up” by the media throughout the coming weeks. How she can withstand that will say much about her strength and character.
Regarding her experience, I think running a state for two years (and not while campaiging) is a good foundation. And if she were to become President because of something happening to McCain, I would hope she would surround herself with advisors who have expertise in whatever issue she was dealing with…isn’t that what all good leaders are supposed to do? And Palin seems to have done that so far in her life, from what I have learned about her…again, so far. She certainly knows how to make tough decisions. I don’t think I can say the same thing about Obama, given the people who he has surrounded himself with in the past…Rev. Wright and Tony Rezco, to name two.
I agree with Giant Idiot, the race is between McCain and Obama. That said, I believe that McCain has more experience than Obama and Sarah Palin has at least as much experience as Obama.
Brilliant.
There were some coments directed to me….plus several that sent me emails. However, these were irrelevant, as this post was asking a very specific question. That question was regarding Gov Palin. I stayed ‘on topic’ with my response.

Brilliant
@ Crystal – I agree this race is between Obama and McCain, however how would Deborah: a prophetess, a judge, and a leader fit into your Proverbs 31 example? How about Queen Esther? I think you may be reading into Proverbs 31, something that isn’t there.
ncarnes…your post regarding a comment…”@ Crystal – I agree this race is between Obama and McCain, however how would Deborah: a prophetess, a judge, and a leader fit into your Proverbs 31 example? How about Queen Esther? I think you may be reading into Proverbs 31, something that isn’t there”
___________
EXACTLY! I don’t understand how this thinking continues.
brainless. I didn’t see it coming. it was a good surprise. However, I can’t see her leading the country if something were to happen to John. I don’t have an issue with gender, but I do with the experience and level at which her verbal communication comes off. I think she’s real, but a little too unpolished for other countries to take her seriously. Now, I do support Obama, so i guess my opinion doesn’t mean a whole lot either.
@aarondewinter // How is Barry going to talk to foreign leaders without his trusty TelePrompTer? Do you think the leaders of the World will listen to a guy whose sentences consist of nothing but “uhhs”, “ers” and “ums”?
Brainless… She seems to accept dogma over logic and reason.
Brilliant, although time is always the ultimate test.
In general, I prefer governors–as opposed to senators–as future presidents and VP’s. They have actually run a government before, interacting with the other branches of government. Senators, as a rule, are ultra-partisan cheerleaders. I am let down that Palin is the only Governor on either ticket, although I think she will be a fabulous pick. I believe two years as a governor far outweighs four years in the senate.
Pete, are you happy I just blogged? I still find it ridiculous that I am doing this…don’t you guys have anything better to do? (just kidding…kind of)
It will go down as the most brilliant move in political history if he wins.
It will also go down as the biggest political blunder if he loses.
Time and voters will tell. Either way, we are living in a historic election. EDUCATE YOURSELF AND VOTE.
@sara You are welcome to my opinion but please know that it’s only that. MY opinion. My thoughts are in no way reflective of Cross Point church or its attenders.
At first, I was very excited about the pick of Palin. I’m a huge supporter of diversity. I’m so proud to see our country giving serious consideration to an African American president and to a female vice-president. I think we’ve come along way.
However, at the end of the day, I think we all have to make the right decision regardless of race or sex. At this point I really don’t know enough about Palin to form an opinion. I look forward to learning more about her in the coming weeks.
Just how long is voters’ attention span? There you go; women will vote for themselves vicariously and men who are ‘ready’ will vote for her too. Either way there will be a committed intelligent woman in the Whitehouse. Thumbs Up, and God love Americans for trying to get it right, even though it sometimes goes terribly wrong.
@Pete… thanks for the answer. I would have understood if you weren’t comfortable giving an opinion.
I think this is the part of politics that already has me worn out well before November – everyone is always so quick to judge and defend and spread rumors and get angry. I’m finding it hard to find straight answers to simple questions, especially in the media where we’re supposed to be able to find it.
I’m grateful there are a still a few months to educate ourselves and at the same time I wish it was over already!

Simply brilliant!!!
Tough on political reform,(if there’s such a thing) Lord knows we need it! I like that. I like her ability to speak from experience as a Pro Lifer, wife and I have been there too! Word has it that she takes Obama to task as a “doer” and in “action.” Talk is cheap and worth every dime we have to pay to hear it! Never been too much of the “political type” but getting longer in tooth and watching teens and grade schoolers grow up in my house has me digging for truth in leadership. Is it here? Don’t know, yet?
I think it was a brilliant move on McCain’s part.
There is something very likeable about Sarah Palin – she seems to be genuine.
I love politics but have been disillusioned for some time, this move has given me a renewed interest.
Some of the previous comments referenced the concern that she might not be able to stand up to Putin and the rest.
I think she could wax “David-esque” and say, “I took on a moose and a polar bear… I think I can take this challenge too!”
Thanks for your blog!
Absolutely Brilliant in so many different ways
Brilliant – and here’s why I think so…
1) She’s very strongly pro-life, where McCain has been criticized for his “wishy-washy” status in that arena. Conservatives will love this about her.
2) She’s an unknown — which is always good in my opinion. She’s a blank page and each American can form their own opinion of her.
3) She’s the mother of a special needs child — like 4 million other Americans. The news media said this could be a huge pull of votes — and as a parent of a child with a disibility — it would be comforting to have someone who “understands” our life to be in the White House.
4) She’s a woman. This COULD pull a lot of votes from people who were strongly supporting Hillary Clinton mainly because she was a woman.
I could go on….but I think this was an amazing, unexpected choice by McCain. Should make things interesting.
I was in Alaska when she was announced as the running mate — boy, was everyone excited there! I thought it was a brilliant move on McCain’s part.
It was interesting to read comments from some of those that said they’re from Alaska…announcing EVERYONE was so excited about Gov Palin being selected as the VP candidate.
The reason I found this so interesting is the fact that my sister lives in Nome (since 1982). She also is a ‘working mother”… a Medical Anthropoligist. She is as “far right” as one could be…yet, the information she had forwaded to me, indicated that NOT “everyone” was excited.
I asked her (my sister) about all the talk that Gov Palin can handle the job of VP if selected, even though she is a “working mother”. She said to me, “A working mother can do many things, but to be on the “World Stage”. with such a lack of knowledge of the other parts of our nation, not to mention the world..would not be the definition of “working mother” to most all people.”

I think there are a lot of people, male and female, that are “unknown leaders”. Folks that just haven’t been thrust into the limelight. Maybe Palin is one of them. Agreeing with her political views doesn’t mean she can lead but it doesn’t mean she can’t either.
I know when Israel needed a leader no one picked the one the God did. Not even the leaders own father. I guess that means we might not be the best at determining who are leaders are without God’s guidance.
As someone said up the comment chain, “Time will tell”.
Brilliant. But would like to see it Palin/McCain!!!
Brilliant in the fact it was a “surprise” to media and everyone else. I am excited about this election but for me I think I’ll hang on a bit and watch the convention and see what else comes to be. Very interesting though.
Simply put for me is that neither candidates could care less about me. It is all about getting the “Party” into the Office. It has nothing to do with me our the American people. Pastor Pete has said it in his “Sync – Worship” video. It is not about me it is about dying to self. These guys are all about self. Obama reads an acceptance speech that came from the movie American President and McCain selects a woman so the Republican party can offer “Change” in their campaign as well. If change is what we are really looking for then I would suggest we follow suit of another movie that had great political insight – Brewster’s Millions. VOTE NONE OF THE ABOVE!!!! It is time that we as Americans stop thinking about the parties and start thinking about the creator. As a country we have pushed God so far out of our nations politics that we as Christians have a tough time discerning what is Godly and what is not, what is moral and what is immoral, what is right and what is wrong.
I do not want to come across as a hater hear because I love this country and I honestly love the candidates that are running and I pray for them daily. However, I just honestly do not believe that either candidate truly has my best interest at heart and I truly believe that it is all about themselves and their party.
I personally am going to vote “NONE OF THE ABOVE” for President this year because neither candidate represents who I am as an American citizen. Someone told me to chose the lesser of both evils. In my mind the lesser of both evils in this case is neither of them. That is the best candidate among those that are offered by the parties. Just an opinion and it carries the same weight as others opinion – NOT MUCH! hahahaha!!!
God Bless and have a great day.
I looked back at this site in order to catch-up on all the interesting comments. It’s my desire to stay ‘on point’ with the topic regarding Gov. Palin. Today I did a post titled…An Interesting “Vetting” Comparison.
Again, I want to express gratitude to the web host for not censoring anyone that is not in 100% agreement with most views expressed here. This is, indeed, rare…and deeply appreciated.
Kindest Regards,
Michelle
I cannot believe some of the comments from people (especially women) that believe it isn’t a woman’s place to be VP! God chose a woman to carry His son and our Savior!
I am not a fan of the McCain/Palin ticket for multiple reasons and although I plan to vote for Obama I don’t agree with 100% of his views either. I think that so many Christians need to stop basing who they vote for on one issue and realize other things besides abortion are just as important from a moral perspective!
Several people are pointing out Palin’s “Godliness” and I would just like to counter that Obama is a Godly man as well!
I appreciate reading others comments with differing viewpoints, but I think we need to remember that our focus needs to stay on glorifying God to bring more people to Him, rather than constantly arguing about political concerns!
Thanks!
Brilliant! In the can I get an Amen kind of way; Genius.
But to the naysayers, the on the fencers and all those who just play follow the leader – please remember when you dig into her family, that she has Volunteered for public service. You know, the job you didn’t volunteer for.
And while the news of her daughter Bristol’s unplanned pregnancy is a tough blow for her – don’t tell me she’s the first Christian working mother that did everything right and still had a daughter with a mind of her own.
Lastly and For The Record – all together now – This is a government OF the people BY the people. The masses are demanding perfection that is not available. Let’s take the next best thing gratefully, eh?
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! She is real.
As for Crystal, I believe you should support your husband, mine is definitely the head of our household, but I am the head of my business. There is a difference.
People should understand that in I Cor. 14:34-35, Paul is restating a question that has been asked of him, and that he answers that question in I Cor. 14:36-40 in disbelief at the men’s audacity that they are the only ones who can hear from God and therefore be the only ones allowed to speak, and, if a woman can be a pastor as stated in II John 1:1 where he is writing a letter to the “elect lady” meaning female pastor, then why shouldn’t Sarah Palin be President? (Oh wait, I’m ahead of myself. That’s in 4 more years!) Women are ALLOWED to be in positions of authority. In fact, they have to be. Just ask any Mom who has to be the one in control!
McCain/Palin vs. Obama/Biden..eh..I like neither. Sad to say, but I don’t believe I’ll vote this year. It’s very disappointing.
there’s something about palin that makes me want to register and become a first time voter! i’m looking fwd to getting to know her better.
A shocking choice for a VP. After months of criticizing Obama for his short time in office (12 years of elected service) McCain choses someone who was mayor of a town of about 5000 and governor of a state with the population of Nashville. Then add the fact that McCain would be the oldest president in history who’s had suffered through a couple bouts of melenoma and is on medicine for his high cholesteral. McCain is a true hero and seems like a great guy but this is no time to risk our future in the hands of an inexperienced person who hadn’t even been out of the country until last year.
that being said… She blew me away at the RNC. Amazing speech, great timing, poise, humor….spunky and a lot cuter than a pit bull in lipstick.
I happy.

From what I have seen of her, I haven’t been impressed. I am hoping that what I have seen of her is made up by the liberal media. If it isn’t, I am affraid for our future.
