Mine was definitely watching Michael Phelps make Olympic history…… And watching his mother’s reaction!

  2. Tommy Sircy August 23, 2008 at 12:53 pm #

I have to agree with Rachel, I’m not much of a swimming person but that was special.

Btw, I almost made it to the end without blogging about the Olympics but I finally did post. I know, I’m a tag along.

  3. Pete Wilson August 23, 2008 at 12:55 pm #

I would agree with both of you guys. It’s hard to beat the Michael Phelps story.

The only gold I actually watched be won live was the men’s beach volleyball. That was a cool moment as well.

  4. Jennifer August 23, 2008 at 1:07 pm #

Of course Phelps was the highlight, but Shawn Johnson’s (gymnast) smile when she realized she had the gold on her last event was priceless.

  5. ncarnes August 23, 2008 at 1:15 pm #

    The Phelps story.
When the Men’s Basketball team wins Gold.
Being the 7,500th comment on without wax :)

The mens swim relay (4 X 100) when Jason Lezak turned it on.

  7. kevinwlloyd August 23, 2008 at 2:12 pm #

Phelps. Mens 4×100 swimming. Usain Bolt. Men & Women’s Beach Volleyball.

  8. Vick August 23, 2008 at 2:14 pm #

Michael Phelps 8 golds and 7 world records of course and I would have to give high marks to women’s beach volleyball gold, and men’s water polo medal just because it’s been 20 years in the making.

  9. Timothy August 23, 2008 at 2:29 pm #

Well as i am a brit/kenyan i would say that the brits getting a record number amount of golds since well ever really… we have never done so well… i think that phelps is a given and usain lightening bolt and Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele adding the 5,000m Olympic title to his 10,000m gold today…

i was really impressed with kenyas medal count i think 13

Kenya’s Nancy Jebet Langat produces a storming finish to win the women’s 1500m, but there is heartache for Briton Lisa Dobriskey who comes fourth.

Kenya’s Wilfred Bungei grabs gold with a hard-fought display in the 800m.

those are my momemts sorry as they are from the bbc olympics feedz

Phelps, without a doubt. Swimming seems to be HIS passion and not something he strives to do only for his family (or country). Which I appreciate! OH & so sorry about Tucker. We’ll say a prayer for ya’ll and the boys. Bummer!

  11. Monica H. August 23, 2008 at 4:32 pm #

Ok so I know everyone will say this but…Michael Phelps was by far my fav Olympic moment! :) Also…the volleyball and gymnastics!

  12. Jenny August 23, 2008 at 5:07 pm #

Michael Phelps, and the girls gymnastics. I have really enjoyed watching my kids’ reactions to the athletes. Neat!

  13. loridknerr August 23, 2008 at 6:07 pm #

Of course, who couldn’t love the achievements and performances by Michael Phelps? I also love the Dara Torres story – what longevity!! I loved watching the USA Women’s BB team win gold today and hopefully watching the men win tonight! Women’s gymnastics were awesome, too, however Nastia was robbed! Finally, beach volleyball and diving – COOL!

Most of all, I hope we continue to dominate in total medals won. GO USA!

  14. Christina Schmidt August 23, 2008 at 7:51 pm #

I loved the gymnastics, on the all around, watching Nastia and Shawn win on the all around, and Shawn win her gold. Nastia was totally robbed, and you know that little girl wasn’t 16, media reports she’s 14, ya think if they figure out she’s 14, they’ll make her give up the medal???? I loved watching Beach VB women win, and really, just seeing the medal winner’s triumphs have been amazing, and you almost wanna cry, knowing they’ve been through so much for just that moment to stand at the top of the podium. LOVE it all!

  15. Joseph August 23, 2008 at 8:06 pm #

Ditto on Phelps. This will be a story for the ages.

Another moment I loved watching, and fogive me because I do not remember the country, was when this guy one the first Olympic medal ever for his tiny country. It was early on but really cool.

Finally, LOVED the opening ceremonies. WOW.

  16. Scott Fillmer August 23, 2008 at 8:21 pm #

I guess I am going to have to go with the obvious and say Phelps winning by .01ths of sec

  17. amyc August 23, 2008 at 8:31 pm #

May and Walsh, Michael Phelps, Bolt from Jamaica and the 33 year old women’s gymnast

  18. Jared Woodard August 23, 2008 at 9:11 pm #

Usain Bolt breaking 2 world records at track (One being micheal johnson’s). The look on micheal’s face as the time posted was priceless :D

  19. Tyler August 23, 2008 at 10:25 pm #

it has to be phelps’ reaction to the relay win. it made everyone root for him because he cared more about the team events than his individual ones.

  20. tam August 24, 2008 at 12:10 am #

my favorite olympic moment? yelling at all my east coast tweets for spoiling the west coast suspense.

  21. Christina Schmidt August 24, 2008 at 12:47 am #

The closing ceremony looks really cool too, and you realize your volunteer appreciation night will interfere with it on Sunday night? LOL

How could anyone have only one favorite — there have been so many amazing moments…but the U.S.Decathalon win with the largest margin of victory since 1972 ..pretty impressive. I also loved the whole Michael Phelps thing – and his great relationship with both his mom and coach. Bill & I also have been really moved by the whole story of the U.S. Men’s Volleyball Team – and the death of their coach’s father-in-law through that bizzare random act of violence. It is been amazing to see the outpouring of support for the coach and his family and the team as well. My final favorite – or maybe most emotional – was the U.S. Softball team leaving their cleats at home plate – how sad for them to take the silver and know that there will be no softball in London in 2012….okay, that’s enough favorites.

I have to say I loved the relay finish. That was my favorite moment along with the gymnastics(which just sort of symbolizes the olympics for me), up until the decathlon. I love the fact that the US can say we have the greatest athlete on earth. Very cool.

I’ll be sad to see the games go, even though they’ll probably go down as maybe the most questionable olympics in history.

i loved watching all of the NBA players like Kobe and LeBron watch the swim events. they cheered on the swimmers and showed great American pride!

oh yea, and matt lauer’s coverage on the TODAY show! :)

  25. mpt August 24, 2008 at 9:14 am #

    The end.

After Phelps left, it got pretty boring. Will be glad when Matt and Meredith are back in the states.
    :)

    Pete,
I don’t often do this and I feel weird about doing it now. But, could you check out my most recent post and just pray for us and our ministry. We’ve had a couple rough weeks and an uphill journey to come. Thanks my friend. I’m praying for you guys in Nashville and your efforts in advancing the Kingdom. Aaron

My favorite moment is yet to come! I can hardly wait for tonight, and the closing ceremony…and then my wife won’t be able to force me to watch any more…

The Olympic hula hoop contest today was the final straw…who knew hula hoops were a sport…

  28. Bill Renfrew August 24, 2008 at 1:49 pm #

I agree with the all the phelps rage, especially 1) Costas asking the 4/100 m relay team, “So, who’s talkin’ now?” 2) Seeing that Chinese guy on the rings (not sure of his name) do a press from a standing still Maltese Cross to an inverted Iron Cross, and the announcer saying (I paraphrase) “If someone had even suggested they were going to try that 3 years ago they would have laughed him out of the gym.” 3) Costas telling Shawn Johnson after she won the gold on beam that he thought she might have grown that week since “it looks like your feet are actually touching the floor.” 4) The last one I can sum up in one word: TIVO!!!! The 2 biggest bummers? 1) Watching NBC slowly succumb to ‘medal envy’ over the course of the 2 week period when they were trying so hard not to at the beginning. 2) seeing all these amazing non USA gymnasts performing their routines in the background as NBC chose to show us our athletes sitting around waiting to go on, and 3) the announcers watching non-US gymnasts wipe out and cheerfully saying ‘That’ll do it! Another medal for the US!’

I like the whole “without wax” thing. And I see that you are blown away with comments. I guess that comes with being a pastor :) I live in north Alabama…your church is only an hour away. Be blessed as you bless the One.

  30. Michele Helms August 24, 2008 at 4:40 pm #

IT HAS GOT TO BE PHELPS! ESPECIALLY WHEN THE RELAY TEAM BEAT THE FRENCH AFTER THE FRENCH HAD BEEN RUNNING THEIR MOUTHS. I WAS ABSOLUTELY GOING NUTS!!!

  31. Ian Lord August 24, 2008 at 4:43 pm #

    I have to complain……

the way that you guys “do” the medal table is wrong…

it has to go on the number of golds, then silvers and then bronze medals won.

    try this link…..

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/medals_table/default.stm

to be shown how the medal table should really be done

but still it was an awesome games for all countries involved

    god bless

  32. Timothy August 24, 2008 at 4:47 pm #

Ian I cant agree with you more…

My new favorite moment was the kenyan

bbc feed …. Sammy Wanjiru wins Kenya’s first ever gold in the men’s marathon, breaking the Olympic record despite the soaring heat in Beijing.

And to hear the kenya national anthem made me really proud in the closing ceremony…

  33. Rachelkemper August 24, 2008 at 8:50 pm #

Oh so many! The olympics are so inspiring on so man levels. I, of course, loved watching Phelps dominate the pool. Torres was also fun to watch…age ain’t nothin’ but a number! The story of the USA track athlete Lomong who was a former ‘lost boy of sudan’ is pretty amazing. I could go on…but I’ll leave it at those few! Excited already for London 2012…

  34. Rachel Rowell August 24, 2008 at 10:13 pm #

Well, I reckon it’s over and we Americans came out on top once again. Wow! Looks like all that “fast” food they feed us really works. LOL :) ….j/k

  35. MaggiePie August 25, 2008 at 6:47 am #

I love watching the Olympics even though I’m not generally a sports fan (except bowling on TV – which aids me in napping!).
I’m a USA patriot but I also learn so much about other countries’ athletes during the Olympics. It’s great. Especially the summer O’s. SO PROUD OF THE USA!

  36. Bill (cycleguy) August 25, 2008 at 7:17 am #

Can I be unAmerican and say, “When they are over?” I have not watched any of it-largely because I can’t stay up late and also because they haven’t captured my interest. (I did read about some of it though). I am glad we did so well but…. :)
