Did you watch the opening ceremony last night? It was long, but pretty amazing. I couldn’t help but think about what an incredible moment that must have been for some of those athletes from the smaller countries. What an honor for them.
I ran across THIS SITE the other day and thought it was a cool way to encourage your favorite team or athlete in the Olympics.
My wife confessed her admiration for the men’s swim team earlier this week but I’m wondering if you’ve got a team or an individual you’re cheering for?

Yes, I watched it!!! And yes, it was AMAZING!!! As for the America’s Cheer site, I hadn’t heard about it until they ran an ad for such last night during the opening ceremonies – it sounds incredibly cool!
PS … I’m a Phelps fan
No! We don’t have access to the Olympics…poor us. Sniff sniff. So if you know know of anybody who might want to tape all the important stuff, please let us know….swimming, gymnastics, golf, wait…no on the golf, running, bla bla.
Always gymnastics….since I was a little girl.
men’s water polo, men’s swimming… oh, and gymnastics.
I don’t want to be a downer on all the Olympic excitement, but I am boycotting viewing these Olympics.
The IOC should never have awarded China the games given their history of human rights violations within their country – blocking internet access and lip service to allowing “speech,” torture of political prisoners who dare to speak out and our brothers and sisters in Christ who must meet in secret and risk going to jail or worse, oppression in Tibet, sweatshop labor which we in the US benefit from with cheap prices, and the Chinese government’s support of the abuse in Sudan.
It is absolutely wrong of the international community to tacitly support such behavior by attending.
It pains me to do so because I know the athletes have spent their entire lives training for this time and I know it won’t make any difference in the grand scheme of things, but I have to go with my conscience and not view anything on the Beijing Olympics.
That being said, if I were viewing the Games, I would be watching gymnastics, equestrian, track and field, and swimming.
I skipped out on the boring march of nations… but the rest of the ceremony was amazing. I would hate to be the nation that hosts the next Olympics after watching that.
My wife is all about the gymnastics but I will be sucked into any of the competitions because I can’t help but cheer for the home team.
Opening ceremonies are always top of my list. There was something awe-inspiring about the drums, and…well everything. Their group discipline was amazing.
I missed the opening ceremonies…but we’ve been watching the Olympics!
I thought the opening ceremonies were stunning… the painting while dancing… the 2008 drummers, 2008 people doing tai chi in PERFECT circles. Man, makes you realize what you can accomplish if you want to badly enough… and that was before any events!
I am excited about the swimming and track and field, but really pumped for gymnastics. Partly because I always wanted to be a gymnast (I was really good in my own mind) and partly because Shawn Johnson is from Des Moines, IA … which is only a few hours from me. She has everyone in Iowa pretty excited for her.

Pete,
I was fascinated by it … something about watching the world’s greatest athletes, setting world records – history in the making, it’s incredible.
LOVED IT!!! It was a mazing! My kids watched it with me! fun night.
Go Michael Phelps!
I can’t wait for ladies gymnastics!
It’s so sad about the stabbing there, though, hopefully nothing harmful will happen to anyone else there! And despite the situation between Georgia and Russia, the delegates from both countries have been civil, hopefully Georgia won’t drop out, they’re looking to get their first medal…ever!
This olympics will certainly go down in history, China is sooooo proud to host it, and did a PHENOMENAL job in the opening ceremony!!!! Their fireworks outdid anyone’s fireworks on the 4th of July, that’s for sure!!!!
I must admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for the team from Guam. I grew up there. I saw them on TV at the opening exercises. It brought tears to my eyes. There is something about see the nations of the world together in a peaceful endeavor that brings hope to the heart for a better world.
I personally love watching some of the sports we normally donot get to see like Badmiton.
Got to root for the swimmers also.
A little long, but great background diversion while blogging. But, whatever happened to throwing Christians to the lions? I hear that was a great sport of old….
I love Coach K – so I am most interested in the Men’s Basketball.
I enjoy watching Michael Phelps too, he is awesome, but he seems humble too.
We watched the whole ceremony, cheering for the artistry, the creativity, and the imagination. Say what you will about China’s politics, they are still an amazing people with a rich and beautiful history that we were privileged to peek in upon during that pageantry. We cheered for Team USA, for the Russian team, and for the Chinese team: we watched the ceremony with friends who have two children adopted from Russia and we are waiting to go to China to get our baby girl HOPEFULLY soon. We loved getting to see so many sites from around the land of our daughter’s birth place!
We are huge swimming and diving fans, gymnastics fans, and now field hockey fans – found out this weekend that a local high school alumni is playing on the US women’s FH team! Go Team USA!
Lovin the Olympics. The opening ceremony was great – very creative stuff. Thanks for the site recommend. Great blog bro.
