My Favorite iPhone Applications

I’ve had my iPhone for almost 8 months. I love this phone. I love the things it does for me. Now I love the applications I can add to it.

We were at the pool this weekend with our friends Todd and Angie. Angie just got the iPhone and I was telling her about my favorite applications. So, I thought I would share with you guys.

My favorite by far is Jott.

Jott for iPhone is the ultimate mobile notepad that turns your voice into notes. Just tap the record screen and leave a note with your voice, Jott will then turn that note into text and add it to your Jott notepad or any of your lists. To get the same satisfaction of completing something on a paper list, cross off any item by swiping your finger across it on your Jott list. No matter where you are, now adding something to your notepad is as quick and easy as saying “Get strawberries for dessert.”

I can also leave up to 15 second messages for friends in my contacts that Jott transcribes and sends as a text message. This has made driving safer for me and my fellow Nashvillians lately.

A few of my other favorites would include pandora, shazam, and YouVersion (iPhone Bible). And then there is Apache Lander which has no redeeming spiritual or productive value and is simply for keeping my kids entertained while in the waiting room at the doctors office.

What are your favorite applications?

Sadly, I’m totally not cool enough for an iPhone. Leaving the house would be a prerequisite for needing to go mobile :) On the bright side, I’m sure I’m saving a fortune!!!

      FROM MRS. RITA AKA
      DEPUTY MINISTER OF PUBLIC WORKS
      COTE D’IVOIRE
      E-mail: mrsritaaka@yahoo.in

      Hello,
Firstly, let me start by introducing my self I MRS. RITA AKA
I am visually impaired, Widow a mother of three Children and the Deputy Minister of Public Works from 11th May 2009 under the auspices of the new President of COTE D’IVOIRE Mr. JACOB AKA. I got your contact curtsey our foreign information exchange in Pretoria on a personal request in search of a reliable and trustworthy foreign individual, though we have not melt before. After due deliberation with my children, I decided to contact you for your assistance to stand as a beneficiary to the sum of US$30.5M (Thirty Million, Five Hundred Thousand United StatesDollarsOnly)

MRS. RITA AKA and read about me. After the swearing in ceremony of 1999 making me the chairperson of Parliamentary Joint Monitoring Committee, a lot of government contracts were awarded to my late husband with my influence, this actually paved way to our success, my late husband died while he was on an official trip to Trinidad and Tobago in 2004. After his death, I discovered that he had some funds in a dollar account whichAmounted to the sum of US$30.5M with a security and finance institution here in COTE D’IVOIRE a of which I will divulge information to you when I get your full consent and support to go for a change of beneficiary and subsequent transfer of the funds into your comfortable and conducive account of your choice. This fund emanated as a result of an over-invoiced contract which he executed with the Government of COTE D’IVOIRE. Though I assisted him in getting this contract but I never knew that it was over-invoiced by him. I am afraid that the government of COTE D’IVOIRE a might start to investigate on contracts awarded from 1994 to date. If they discover this money in his bank account, they will confiscate it and seize his assets here in COTE D’IVOIRE and this will definitely affect my political career in government. I want your assistance in opening an account with bankers through my banker so that this fund could be wired into your account directly without any hitch. As soon as the fund gets to your account, you are expected to move itImmediately into another personal bank account in your country. I will see to it that the account is not traced from COTE D’IVOIRE . As soon as you have confirmed the fund into your account, I will send my eldest son to come to your country to discuss on business investments. For your assistance, I am offering you 20% of the principal sum which amounts to US$6,100.000.00 (Six Million One Hundred Thousand United Tates Dollars Only) However, you have to assure me and also be ready to go into agreement with me that you will not elope with my fund. If you agree to my terms, kindly as a matter of urgency send me an email. Due to my sensitive position in the COTE D’IVOIRE Government.

I prefer you send me email than I call. All correspondence must be by my private e-mail
      addresses: mrsritaaka@yahoo.in
If you want to speak with my Banker that is fine and okay by me. You will have to send down you private telephone /fax number so that I can forward it to him to reach you from time to time, this is for security reasons. Please I do not need to remind you of the need for absolute Confidentiality of this transaction if we must succeed. If you do not feel comfortable with this transaction, do not hesitate to discontinue.

Thanks for your anticipated co-operation and my regards to your family.
      Yours Faithfully,
      MRS. RITA AKA.

YES! I am so excited for the drivers in your area. Yay for Jott. Ever since that video of you texting while driving a while back, I have been hoping for this day hehehe

Jott sounds awesome! My husband has been wanting to switch over to AT&T and get an iphone, but I have been hesistant. However, your post has made me a little more open to the idea :)

WordPress for iPhone, the Connect 4 like game for iPhone…

Phone Saber (come on – you always wanted a light saber)

Bubble wrap (I’m up to 90 pops in 45 seconds. I do keep the sound muted when I am around others.)

Urban Spoon – restaurant slot machine

I’m still trying out other applications but that is what I like so far.

  5. chilly August 5, 2008 at 4:52 pm #

    I love my iPhone.

I haven’t taken advantage of Jott yet… but I love YouVersion Bible (thanks lifechurch.tv), I also use Google Reader, and love the GPS map feature.

The iPhone has been such a great tool & blessing to me!

I bought the phone, but did not get it. Let me explain. I stood in line for several hours for the newest version of the phone on July 11th, so my son would get it for his 21st b-day gift that week-end. Pete, I’ll be sure and ask Landon what his favorite application is.

  7. brandiandboys August 5, 2008 at 6:06 pm #

let’s be honest, Wilson… you play Apache Lander more than anyone else in our family!

    i speak the truth! :)

I thought it was all kind of a fad until one of our sales people demonstrated his. This guy had his entire sales presentation on there. Products, equipment, the whole nine yards.

I’m an old fogey but danged if I don’t appreciate efficency.

Maybe I’ll come around, after I learn to use my antiquated cell phone.

if i had one, i’d be able to answer that. but as for now…verizon krzr and a penny pinching hubby doesn’t give much wiggle room to get one. don’t get me wrong, i love his penny pinching-most of the time. i pinch pennies too! but really, i don’t even have an ipod. both my girls do and my hubby has one that i bought him. i use it-is that the same as having my own?

  15. sarah walston August 5, 2008 at 9:50 pm #

I love Jott, too! I also love the jawbreaker game and the wordpress app. My husband loves the apache lander, too…although he has yet to land the helicopter successfully! :)

  19. heidi August 5, 2008 at 11:24 pm #

must be nice to have an iphone.. i can barely afford my cheap, prepaid cell phone. I’m a little envious :(

  20. ally August 6, 2008 at 12:29 am #

So it’s sort of like a built-in dictaphone/secretary? I’d love that….but not enough to shell out the money/effort for an iphone. But I certainly see the appeal.

  21. Carlos August 6, 2008 at 5:24 am #

I’m with ckroboth! Blackberry beats iphone hands down when it comes to apps and open platform.

  22. ckroboth August 6, 2008 at 6:16 am #

@carlos- Do you use Viigo…If not it is the best BB app out there. It is an RSS reader, and will soon support POD casting feeds and Video feeds.

We don’t have an i-phone – it sounds way too sophisticated for us! Michael and I were saying though that we really need to get with the times. We are feelng old – not texting and constantly having our fingers on a phone!

  25. Giant Idiot August 6, 2008 at 8:22 am #

Twitterrific, Pandora, Shazam and the YouBible. I have been meaning to download Jott but find it challenging to be texting and going 75-80 miles an hour.

  26. Read Scott August 6, 2008 at 10:25 am #

Twinkle, Facebook, AIM, Bible, NY Times, Shazaam, Tap Tap, Lander, Remote, Hanoi, and Toodledo (web app)

  27. Doug Cowburn August 6, 2008 at 10:32 am #

It was really hard for me…reading this post. I’ve been waiting for my new iphone 3G for about two weeks now. I can’t wait! I’ve saved this post so when I get it I can check out your favorites. But until then I’ll have to keep repenting for jealousy lol.

Personally, I really dig my BlackBerry curve. The gadget side of the iphone is cool, but practically it is less efficient to me. No keyboard, the lag in receiving emails, and the battery life is inferior to BlackBerry. iPhones are super cool though.

  29. IanK August 6, 2008 at 2:01 pm #

I have and love all of the apps reviewed. My favorites are:

    myLite Flashlight and Strobe
    my To-Do’s
    magic 8 ball
    Whoopie Cushion

all created by DoApp Inc. (yes, I am a proud employee ;) )

    other favorites are:

    bubbles (my daughter loves it)
    Labyrinth
    all language help apps

We both have the “old” iPhone but we have such a great love for all the new amazing applications!! I’m loving Yelp!!

  31. pcase August 7, 2008 at 3:49 pm #

Gonna have to get the “Case Favorites” list for iPhone from that techno-man I’m married to. I’m a Blackberry girl myself with only aspirations of one day growing into being an iPhone gal. But you can bet that Joe Case has all the latest apps available. Jot is a favorite thought, as most of my messages from him during the day come in through Jot!

It’s worth checking out Touch Me!
One of my top 10 would include the madly addictive game Touch Me! The iPhone speaks out a number of actions such as touch me, stroke me, rotate me and shake me which you have to perform quickly. It’s definitely a different type of game for the iPhone.

The link below goes to Touch Me! in the App Store:
