Chicken, Chicken, and More Chicken

In case those of you back home wonder what we eat while visiting with our sister church in the D.R.. Here you go…

Yes. Every day. Several times a day.

If you had to eat the same meal every day for a week what would it be?

@Lisa, I can’t believe you would do that to me. I MISS pizza so much. I would give up my right arm for some pizza right NOW.

    Pete:
my seminary BFF works for a missions organization (Mission Emanuel) down in the DR – she’s like a USA rep, mainly working from the states. but she spends a few weeks out of the school year there, as well as half the summer down there.
she says all the eat is rice and beans and chicken. every. single. day. it’s all they can afford.
puts it in perspective, though, doesn’t it?

  12. Starwoodgal July 17, 2008 at 6:05 am #

Praying for all of you and your families during your trip.

I don’t know what I would pick to eat if I could only have one thing for every meal. Hmmmmmm! But it would probably involved pasta of some sort and a lifetime supply of Fresca. I know that’s a weird drink, but I love it.

Hang in there! As my grandfather would have said “we got it good, don’t we”.

  13. ncarnes July 17, 2008 at 6:25 am #

Chicken! Seriously I love it (Fried, Baked, Rotisserie, Grilled, Roasted, Smoked, I think you get my point)

Continuing to pray for your mission team, the church in the DR, and Moise.

Mc Donalds cheesburgers and diet coke (yep, the fountain variety from McDonalds)… I like sweet tea too..but that’s harder to find in Michigan. I’m guessing they don’t have Mc Donalds in the D.R. :)

  22. janowen July 17, 2008 at 9:31 am #

I actually think it looks good…..I like chicken. If I had to eat the same thing all week I would probably eat chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese or fries, and toast and a Mountain Dew.

I had kids when I was 19 – can you tell I only know how to eat kid food still?

  23. Lorelei King July 17, 2008 at 9:31 am #

Grits! Seriously. It’s my favorite food. Although, sometimes I dream of eating peanut butter on a spoon but since I’m allergic, guess not.

  24. Joseph July 17, 2008 at 9:36 am #

It would be chicken fajitas and a diet coke.

  25. Adam July 17, 2008 at 9:55 am #

You know whats funny.. NOBODY is bringing up anything healthy. LOL.. I mean I dont see anyone saying “Man I could definitely live on marinated tofu and hummus.” Although my wife could probably live on hummus.

  26. jason July 17, 2008 at 9:57 am #

Fish, everyday. Grilled, fried, broiled, raw.

  27. Ladybird July 17, 2008 at 10:09 am #

You had to go and put a picture of food on your blog, didn’t you! Now you have made this pregnant girl hungry for chicken!

I would have to say bacon. Bacon is the ULTIMATE food. It smells great cooking and it goes with everything. Who doesn’t like bacon???

I know what its like as we ate too much chicken while working in the hay field!!
I would pick mashed potatoes. Real ones with or without a delicious gravy!

  34. Austin W. July 17, 2008 at 12:46 pm #

chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and some fried okra with a tall glass of ice cold southern sweet tea (you know, the kind that’ll make you want to slap your momma)….then I’d have just enough room left over for some warm peach or cherry cobbler with a side of vanilla ice cream

  35. Cyndi July 17, 2008 at 1:32 pm #

Pasta with sauce and meat (any variety will do….spaghetti and lasagna) with fresh salad and french toast

refried beans and flour tortillas…from my years living in New Mexico

  38. loridknerr July 17, 2008 at 2:13 pm #

That chicken doesn’t look too bad, however, I had to eat it every day I think I’d get pretty sick of it! I could eat a spinach salad every day (as long as I could change up the dressings and other stuff). YUM

Hope y’all have a great rest of the trip!

  39. Nathan July 17, 2008 at 2:27 pm #

Lately, and this is sad… I eat a lot of Mexican offerings. That would be enchiladas, tacos, spicy rice. Of course the lunch special is less than $5 and comes with complimentary salsa and chips.

    Somebody do an intervention.

  40. Pete Wilson July 17, 2008 at 2:41 pm #

@Tina, yes we still have hot dog buns with every meal. Good stuff.

  41. 5th Street July 17, 2008 at 3:06 pm #

That good ol’ Chicken and Rice. The fruit ROCKS there too.

  42. Harold McKee July 17, 2008 at 5:02 pm #

@brian, you are right about the fruit. Wish wyou were here this week. Pete says you liven things up. I think he means that in a good way.

@pete, those are not hotdog buns. They are some kind of buns but not hotdog.

  43. tam July 18, 2008 at 11:19 am #

i would eat chicken every day if i could.

  45. sara July 25, 2008 at 9:47 pm #

Ironically, I do eat the same thing every day. My health is tenuous, lots of pain and meds so my stomach is always iffy. I have rice, chicken and noodles, and oatmeal mostly. And if I’m having a good day, an apple! I know, you’re jealous aren’t you? :) Mostly I’m just grateful I can eat that, and I’m even more grateful having seen the great work you’re doing there.
