This Is MY Kind Of Worship!

I saw this on my new friend, Dave Shaw’s blog. I love it. Could this be coming to Cross Point soon?

Thumbs up or down?

Oh I’d quite like to see the looks on people’s faces if we did something like that at CP, and see the onslaught of email you’d probably get! Then again, I may or may not have triple-dog dared a certain brand-new staff member to bring a banner and tambourine to worship, just to see what happens…

  2. Steve July 1, 2008 at 12:53 pm #

    I love it!

  3. Stacy July 1, 2008 at 12:54 pm #

No I would like to see the looks on the faces of the people at MY church if we had them come. While not the type of music I prefer personally the message does have a very valid point and would reach people the hymns would never reach.

  4. Amanda July 1, 2008 at 1:03 pm #

Good message. I’d love to hear about your congregation’s reaction if you do this. :) Should be interesting.

  5. bradruggles July 1, 2008 at 1:05 pm #

Oh yeah, I can totally see @jarrodmorris rocking the stage like that. Would you be the backup rapper?

  6. Rachel July 1, 2008 at 1:06 pm #

I’m not even a big rap fan, but I enjoyed that!

  7. Vince July 1, 2008 at 1:12 pm #

    Like the zep sample

  8. Pete Wilson July 1, 2008 at 1:15 pm #

@bradruggles, Of course I will be dude!

  9. Christina Schmidt July 1, 2008 at 1:25 pm #

It definitely would reach a wider variety of people, and so much better than hearing about pimps and hos!!!!! One rap album mothers would run out to buy their kids, and by seeing how they conduct themselves as people who aren’t going to jail, aren’t into drugs, and are trying to make a difference would have a profound effect on people, and could potentially shape a generation, but that may just be wishful thinking. Not my type of music, but it would reach a lot of the people who aren’t in good situations, and could use God in their lives.

  10. Aaron July 1, 2008 at 1:30 pm #

    i like it

would love to see the uncomfortable reactions to that from some of the people in my suburban church

  11. Ally July 1, 2008 at 1:33 pm #

This song is from 116 Clique. I like “No More” by them too. I play this song for my students at PTM, and they think it’s Ludicrous:) I generally don’t correct them.

I’d love for Cross Point to mix it up, and “Send Me/Represent” would be a great way to do that.

  12. loridknerr July 1, 2008 at 1:37 pm #

I’m glad that the words were there otherwise I would have missed out on what a great message they conveyed. I think it’s always good to be able to reach a diverse group of people. I vote thumbs up!

  13. Tommy Sircy July 1, 2008 at 1:43 pm #

I actually liked it and I don’t like rap. Great lyrics.

  14. ncarnes July 1, 2008 at 1:51 pm #

    Send Me…I’ll Go!
    I love it!

  15. Jonathan Paul July 1, 2008 at 1:51 pm #

Sweet! Love the music and the message. I was wondering where this was from. When I got to the end of the video, I found out it was from the church I’ve been attending here in Seattle for most of the past year. :o ) Wow.

  16. Giant Idiot July 1, 2008 at 1:54 pm #

That is TIGHT!! I also love the “When the Levee Breaks” sample.

  17. Jonnelle July 1, 2008 at 2:00 pm #

Right after Cross Point, Mars Hill – Seattle has to be my favorite church for their unashamed attitude on reaching the lost, pursuit of real creativity, intellectually rigorous messages that constantly challenge me, and Mark Driscoll is very funny.

Which remind me, I need to get those CDs of Pastor Mark’s stuff that I promised you Pete… for you to listen to in your infinite spare time :)

  18. Happy White Man July 1, 2008 at 2:05 pm #

    Thumbs down.

  19. Giant Idiot July 1, 2008 at 2:15 pm #

I am waiting for Saduj Suraci’s take on this

  20. melissa irwin July 1, 2008 at 2:25 pm #

    Great lyrics!

  21. theblogstar July 1, 2008 at 2:28 pm #

    Yes please.

  22. cortni July 1, 2008 at 2:29 pm #

My dad would hate it, so I have to say two thumbs UP. Haha! I can hear him now. “That was so loud. Maybe that guy should pull his pants up. Ect.”

But seriously, I love it. It has a great message and at the very least it would be great at youth group.

  23. Rachelkemper July 1, 2008 at 2:43 pm #

What a great way to take the most downloaded, most listened to genre of music in America and make it positivizzle!! :) Seriously, I think having some honest, christian hip-hop during worship sometimes would be a cool way to reach out and diversify…we can’t change the world if we stay the same and stick with ‘safe’ all the time. I say BRING IT ON, CP!

  24. Tommy Sircy July 1, 2008 at 3:03 pm #

Amen, Rachel. I’m like George Bailey, I was born old. But, we must never let the way we communicate the message become stale and staid.

  25. Amanda Fordham July 1, 2008 at 3:24 pm #

Love it! It reminds me of home.

  26. CJ Mills July 1, 2008 at 3:28 pm #

    brilliant!

  27. steven.russell July 1, 2008 at 3:28 pm #

I find it hilarious that the only thumbs down comes from someone with the name “Happy White Man.”

Nothing against Happy White Man. I just think it is wonderfully ironic and funny.

  28. Jared Woodard July 1, 2008 at 3:28 pm #

    2 Thumbs up.

If that is the music that brings you into worship the best,I say bring it on. I dont think we should do it at CPC just to do it though. Should be somthing needed.

  29. Paul Fowler July 1, 2008 at 4:04 pm #

I loved it and I don’t really like rap. It shows us the diversity in the body of Christ. They will reach people our church could never in a million years. Love it!! The message is clear – the good news is for everyone, everywhere.

  30. FO’SHIZZLE MY NIZZLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVED LOVED LOVED IT and I want them at CP!!
    :)

  31. Pete Wilson July 1, 2008 at 6:28 pm #

@Steven.Russell, I’m with you bro. That IS hilarious.

  32. hernseugene July 1, 2008 at 6:45 pm #

Thats my boy LECRAE!!!! We had him come down to Miami, and HE ROCKED the crowd!!! There must have been over 1,000 youth in attendance that night!! And the teens LOVE HIM!!! Teenagers DIG him PETE!!!

  33. Deborah Marsh July 1, 2008 at 7:03 pm #

Being that I pretty much disagree with most of what my 17 year old son would LIKE to be listening to these days, I definately give this act a thumbs up!

Heck Pete…..you have these folks visit your church and my family & I will drive all the way from FLA to bring my step-son for the event :o )

  34. Jimmy July 1, 2008 at 7:33 pm #

yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah…that is some great stuff!

  35. annie July 1, 2008 at 7:44 pm #

Pete – if you decide to participate as the backup rapper, you can rock those fancy new sunglasses your wife is so fond of! You may also want to stretch out and possibly hire a spotter if you plan on showcasing any of your old school break dancing techniques. I loved it!!!

  36. Harold McKee July 1, 2008 at 7:46 pm #

Two thumbs waaaay up. The honesty of the lyrics is the driving force behind it all. Get off da couch.

    Send me, I’ll go.

    Peace out.

  37. Kari July 1, 2008 at 7:57 pm #

    Two thumbs way up!

  38. Kelly Staie July 1, 2008 at 8:26 pm #

When I saw the title “Send Me” I knew it had to be Lecrae. If you have never heard of him I suggest you check him out. I love the message of this song and of another one of his, “Take Me As I Am” from the album Real Talk. His songs speak volumes to me -a white girl who loves Christian Rap! You got two thumbs up from me, Pete.

  39. Carmen Cook July 1, 2008 at 8:28 pm #

    I. LOVED. IT. DAWG!!!! I’d love to be a back up rapper. I rap you know – I know it’s hard to believe, but I did go to high school in the late eighties, early nineties. My rap name was “Cooley C”! I still have my Vanilla Ice cd, but his lyrics weren’t near as good. And he’s a poser.

Anyway, I digress… That was AWESOME!!! How do you beat the Great Comission with a great beat, groovy base line, and a few dawgs here and there?

  40. pcase July 1, 2008 at 9:09 pm #

Thought this was INSANE, Pete!!! We serve a creative God and it takes all kinds of creative ways to reach the lost. I’m all about it!

And for your viewing pleasure, check out what broke out on platform in ATL last weekend at a women’s conference featuring Kay Arthur, Beth Moore and Priscilla Shirer.

What an incredible moment this was in the middle of the praise & worship. What fun! http://www.vimeo.com/1253214

  41. Tom Lister July 1, 2008 at 9:29 pm #

That rocks! I love worship music of all tastes and flavours. I would be surprised though if they came to my church on a Sunday morning if that would not cause an uproar! Praise God for diversity!

  42. L July 1, 2008 at 9:57 pm #

    I say thumbs up.

Although my vote may not count since I do not actually attend your church. lol

  43. Pete Wilson July 2, 2008 at 5:45 am #

@Carmen Cook, I almost wrecked my car this morning when I read your comment on my way in. You crack me up. I think you and I should tag team this one on a Sunday morning.

  44. aarondewinter July 2, 2008 at 5:59 am #

Great! Super! Innovating! Glorifying! I think it takes ALL KINDS of worship, just like ALL KINDS of churches, to reach ALL KINDS of people! I’m glad to see, hear and experience something new and creative. I think it also is needed to open the eyes of current Christians to help them realize there isn’t just one “Right” way to worship. Just because I don’t download a lot of hip hop, doesn’t mean God can’t work through these guys and into the hearts of someone experiencing that worship. I think it’s great!

  45. Randy Elrod July 2, 2008 at 6:36 am #

Two thumbs way up!!! Incidentally, that is Joe Day (twitter: thejode)
on guitar. He was a part of the Master songwriting class at http://www.kalein.org

    Go Joe and Mars Hill!!!

My kind of worship, too. Thanks, Pete.

    Randy

  46. cdroberts July 2, 2008 at 6:49 am #

let’s get these guys on the calendar. can they lead worship in dickson first?

  47. mandy July 2, 2008 at 7:08 am #

I have to say I would be distracted in my worship if this were presented at my church. But I would praise the Lord afterward for this group who He will undoubtedly use to reach many for His glory!

  48. Sarah S July 2, 2008 at 8:08 am #

i think this is amazing – i am all for a more diverse means to worship. it is great to see the Lord working in peoples lives to get the message out – ‘send me, i’ll go’ – wow. those guys love the Lord and have the talent to reach people who don’t always respond to the everyday praise songs you can find in a lot of churches. Thanks for that Pete!

  49. Jon Spadino July 2, 2008 at 11:27 am #

I love it. Check out my BLOG: spadinofaimly.wordpress.com

  50. Jack deFluiter July 3, 2008 at 10:25 am #

After reading all your responses I feel like I will be ostrasized for my thoughts. I believe that there are many people that will love this and the message is awesome but I had a difficult time even watching it on the video as it does nothing to make me feel like worshiping or being praiseful. My children would probably love it and I praise God for that but I wouldn’t last more than one song. I vote go for it because I know there will be many reached by it but just let me know ahead of time so I can show up late and hear the sermon.

  51. Cyndi July 3, 2008 at 9:22 pm #

My hubby would probably flip ( I know our church memebers would), will have to ask my 23 and 24 year olds. I think in some places this would be a great way to reach the young kids of today. I not exactly old school (unless you consider CeCe Winan, Tye Tribbett, Kirk Franklin and Israel New Breed Old school…which I guess some would ) but it took me a while to be ok with christian rock (or country for that matter) so why not ( as I said though my husband would have a cow if I presented this as one of my youth event ideas). He is most def. old school…LOL

  52. Cyndi July 4, 2008 at 6:25 am #

Ok, my 23 year old said she liked it and she is not a fan of rap music. She does feel like its a message the young people in our area need to hear. And she said she would rather they listened to that then some of the other stuff out there our kids are listening to.

  53. Scott Williams July 4, 2008 at 8:37 pm #
