Your Favorite Vacation?
I’ve been on an amazing vacation this week with my family! We’ve been down in Orange Beach, Alabama. We’ve had an incredible time just hanging out and spending lots of quality time together.
So I was wondering…what’s been your favorite vacation? Give us the year and place.
Here are a few pics of what’s turning out to be one of my favorites.

Good Morning!
My favorite vacation was a ski trip (Vail/Beaver Creek/Copper Mountain) with the hubby back in 2000. We stayed in a B&B for an entire week and skied every single day. That is, until a snowborder ran me over. We met people from all over the world on that vacation in that one little B&B. And, I didn’t have to cook or do laundry for an entire week. It was great!
Destin, FL with my husband and my in-laws summer 2005
Best ever! we are hoping to go back again this coming summer 2009!
Awwww….. you all look like you’re having so much fun!!! When I see pics like this it makes me wish I would have had more kids…..but just for a brief moment, then I come back to my senses. But I love yours!!!
Favorite vacation? Entertainment wise? VEGAS, BABY!! 2002,2003,2004,2005!! (and I STILL haven’t won big!!)
Relaxing wise? Destin-2007
Great pics! Looks like you guys had fun.
My favorite trip was actually from before we were married. I flew in with some friends on a sea plane and landed in a lake way up in northern Canada and canoed out. It was a 10 day trip over 100 miles of remote, beautiful lakes and rivers. When the girls get older I want to take them on the same trip
Definitely our honeymoon last month to Jamaica, 8 days away on the beach with the the new wife was amazing.
gatlinburg, back in ’99. rode horses on the mountain trails. can’t wait to go back!
Scotland!!!
Keuka Lake – one of the Finger Lakes in New York State. Definitely a place to say “Wow, God! Nice job!”
Anne, You can’t use Scotland as yours…that was a missions trip. Not the same thing. Or is it? I think you need to make her do it again…but since she removed that email thing off her phone, good luck finding her. Anyways, one year (I think I was in 5th grade) my parents didn’t buy us Christmas presents and took us to DisneyLand instead. It was the best vacation ever. The park was empty and we stayed whole week.
Australia, hands down. I have friends there, so that made it even better. My sister and I went over Christmas ’94, when I was in college. Greg and the kids and I have never been on a real vacation, due to lack of funds – only to visit family, which honestly, is NOT vacation.
How fun that looks! I love the shot of you and your kids! How cute
I think my favorite vacation was with my mom when I was still in high school to Kauai. Snorkeling with the fishes and sea turtles all day is amazing.
Being that my family and I have not had a real vacation together in quite some time, I would have to say one of the trips I have taken to California on my own. I went to Saddleback for the Gathering, got to hangout with Doug Fields and some of the countries top youth pastors, went to Laguna Beach (my favorite place in the U.S. so far), and then went to see my uncle in L.A. for about 4 days and got to see Hollywoodland and all of its surroundings. I finished it off with a trip to hear Erwin McManus at Mosaic at their Mayan location (the famous bar) – It was an awesome week!
As a kid, I would love when we all got to go with my dad on trips for work. And it was as simple as the hotel and swimmning pool but it just reminds me of simple, happy times when we were all together. As an adult, my sister surprised me with a trip to Ireland for my 30th Birthday. It was lovely.
i’m with sarah up there…my wife and i were introduced to Destin, FL in the fall of ’06…WOW!!! the beach was just amazing and there was more than enough golf for us that week. i’m not sure when we will be heading back, but i’m ready!!!
I traveled alone in Europe last summer for five weeks (after I quit my job) and had a blast; I especially enjoyed Santorini, Greece–absolutely gorgeous with friendly people and delicious food.
last July, my 7 yr old son and I spent a week camping, hiking, and fishing in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park
we had so much fun
My parents have taken us on a family vacation every year since I was born (too many to count!) and we have some fabulous ones including Acapulco, Jamaica and Marco Island, FL., which were all fabulous, being together with our entire family. Since my father passed away, Mom has taken us on a fabulous cruise to the Carribean, a Hawaiian cruise (don’t do it, tho’…better to go to Maui on your own and stay put!); also a trip to Switzerland, Germany and Austria with my husband on business was fabulous! I’ve been so blessed to travel! February of this year to Guatemala was right up there as tops, too!
My favorite vacation was a week spent skiing at Lake Tahoe (Heavenly is truly aptly named…the view of Lake Tahoe from the upper lifts is breath-taking) with my fiance (now husband) and in-laws. It was the only time in as long as I can remember that I actually took a real vacation – not one associated with a professional convention, business meeting, or missions trip. My husband and I had a blast, a truly exhilirating and romantic time together we will never forget. We hope to get back there with our 3 kids one of these days!
We vacation almost every year in Estes Park, Colorado, and Rocky Mountain National Park. We love the mountains and hiking. My hubby even started a website with forums to share our enthusiasm about RMNP with others. http://www.rmnpforums.com.
Your pictures kinda make me want to visit the beach though.
It looks like you guys are having a great time! Family vacations are awesome!
My favorite vacation was when Sherry, my wife, and I back packed across Europe….. (not really but wouldn’t that have been cool if we had)
Actually Sherry and I vacationed in San Fransisco for a week back in March of 1998 I believe. It was a wonderful week. We drove up and down the costal highways and relaxed like I haven’t relaxed since.
Can’t narrow it down to only one, so I’ve got a Top Three: my sister and I took our parents on an Alaskan cruise for their 50th anniversary back in 1998; in 2002 Ken & I took the kids to New York City for Christmas (sooooo much fun); and in 2006 Ken & I celebrated our 25th anniversary in San Francisco. Wouldn’t have missed ANY of them!
Last year instead of exchanging christmas presents we took our girls on a cruise to mexico. Best Christmas Ever!
I have a list about a mile long and all for different reasons. Outside of Atlanta, I have yet to visit a place that I wouldn’t love to go back to.
Toronto… New Mexico… Williamsburg… Charleston… London… Moscow… Lucerne…
But my favorite place has to be Colorado. The first time I visited there was in 1997. We went into the Rocky Mountains. I sat on a cliff on the side of the road and looked at the Continental Divide. I marveled at the size of it. Its beauty. On the way back down, we saw a Big Horn Ram jumping from crag to crag. I have a picture I need to scan in. My friend said he’d lived in CO for 10 years (at that point) and had never seen one that close. It was that trip that spurred me to re-examining my lack of relationship with God.
I’ve gone back to Colorado almost every year since. I am heading out there in July but I won’t have alot of time for sight seeing since its for a dance workshop. I keep pestering my friends to come with me.
Mine was in the fall of 1985. Cindy and I never had a honeymoon, other than a night at The Holiday Inn in Harriman, TN. After Heather was born and we could force ourselves to leave her overnight, we took a long weekend to Gatlinburg. It doesn’t sound like much but it was special to us. It created some of my favorite memories.
I have to say 2, because the most fun vacation would be in college and Linds and I went to Disney World and Islands of Adventure/Universal. Even though we had both been before, we were probably the 2 biggest kids there…and NO LINES ANYWHERE since our spring break was so early.
Most relaxing vacation would definitely have to be the cruise to Cayman Islands and Jamaica just over a month ago…I want to be back!
2 way tie!
1. I traveled by myself to Crooked Creek Ranch in Colorado to attend the John Eldredge Boot Camp. Some great personal time and a beautiful setting.
2. Every year my family stays a week straight at the lake house. We have no schedule, just boat, jet ski, grill out and float.
* Merri and I are still dreaming up our honeymoon. We never went anywhere after we got married. We really want to go somewhere tropical (Paradise Island, Mexico, etc.).
I would say SC Beach with my 3 kids, my father in-law , my best friend and his family. No agenda…sun, fun and sand. 05 thru 07.
I’d have to agree with Deb. Vegas baby for me! Love it! My favorite ski resorts are Steamboat Springs Colorado and Red Lodge Montana.
How weird that someone else would say the same place as me…but mine would be Vail, CO. We stayed at the Beaver Creek Resort and it was amazing! I think it was Christmas of 2005! My hubby and I plan on going back soon.
I don’t really have a favorite since I’ve gone to the same place every year for the last 20+ years. Each year we seem to enjoy our time in OB more and more. Lots of great memories!
February 2007, a villa in Cozumel . . . for a week!!! Awesome.
Anywhere but here…..
Our best trip was either Charleston or Orlando, both were before we had our little girl. Since we’ve had her, I’d have to say we’ve had a quite a few vacations in Orange Beach that were pretty amazing (we only live 45 minutes away).
Joe and I went to Crested Butte Colorado during wildflower season in July 2002. We went hot-air ballooning, hiking and horseback riding…and ate at some incredible restaurants. I took Spencer to NYC on his 11th birthday (just the 2 of us) and had a memorable fantastic time. I hope we all get to go as a family with Shawn and Asher sometime soon.
Actually, we just got back yesterday from a Greek Isle cruise and I would have to say that it would be the winner! It also included Ephesus which was truly special!
Tam and I had a weekend get away to Seattle once that was amazing. But, the best vacation was tam and I in Hawaii. Waikiki about 6 years ago. Incredible!!!!
My fav was the time my family went to Missouri, not that Missouri was fun but we got lost in Arkansas and literally spent over a day driving around on two lane roads before we found an interstate. As a kid it was awesome!
My favorite vacation was when I took a trip to Italy with my mom and some friends. Actually we just got back a couple of weeks ago. It was tons of fun and I learned a lot of interesting things. And some Italian to boot!
I’m hoping to go back next year, actually. I have to raise my own money though!
My favorite was this past year when we went to Pigeon Forge with the whole family. We spent a lot of time hanging out by the pool, and just spending time together. Also, I got to go Zorbing which was something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
When we aren’t stuck in the hospital with our son we liketo get away…anywhere. We love going to Ocean City NJ. Its only 2 hrs away and we have such a great family friend beach town.
It’s a tough one, it’d be between Australia and Vietnam, but I think I’d go with Australia, it’s just a neat place, I was there in 1999, and it was a lot like the US, which was nice, when living in Thailand, but it was still very different. I’ve decided that’s where I would like to move to at some point in my life! Vietnam was a fun trip, we went in 2000, and it was a junior, senior trip in HS. It was a lot of fun with the people, and, of course, getting to see the history was all very interesting, we went to different cities and learned quite a bit.

Hmmm…unfortunately there are few vacations I remember taking as a child, but my honeymoon to a wonderful cabin in the woods in TN is at the top of my list. I would so love to take a beach vacation…but swimming suit required vacations scare me…maybe after my transformation!
*this is my first post on your blog *holla!*
I actually attend Mainstreet Church in Ohio where your grandfather used to pastor. I think my mom emailed you, we were both looking at your blog just yesterday. So glad I can check up and see what’s going on with you!
Have a SMASHING time with the fam!
Lisa
May 2008–Alaska. Me and hubby and 12 other people. The trip was awesome, cold, snowy, sleety and the beauty was remarkable. Some of the last untouched beauty in the world. And the food was really good to. That always helps!
my most recent one – May 2008 – http://tinyurl.com/532odl
Pete, thanks for sharing your latest vacation with us. I enjoy your transparency and desire to get real as you draw ever closer to Him. I praise God for knowing just what we need when we need it. Praying for your church and you to be touched as you continue to rid yourself of the noise, chaos and distractions you have been telling us all about! http://www.openinghisword.blogspot.com
looks like y’all had loads of fun!!! probably just what you needed, too. my favorite vacation was last summer. my parents and i went to San Diego, CA for a week and it was wonderful to just chill out, do the tourist thing, get lost in the city, go to the beach, and not have anything scheduled besides what we wanted to do. it was lovely, and i kinda wish we were going again this summer.
I think for me it might have been to Kauai in 2007 with my husband. We also went to Pawley’s Island, SC at a very pivotal time in my life in 2007 and that was very restful.
where i have been today? ahhh…kids came home from camp
favorite vacation – Waikiki with Brent! Then back to Maui one year with the kids. B and I grew up in So.Ca so we are beach bums. any vacation that takes us to the beach is just fine.
of course – we’ll take a vacation to Nashville all the same
stoked you’ve had a great break!
i just said stoked. and im not deleting it.
i am THAT secure.
7 days at Disney World with our 2 girls and my in-laws. It was amazing!
hope ya’ll have a safe trip home
Duck, NC the Outer Banks (OBX) 2001. It was the best vaction our family has ever been on.
My favorite vacation is ANY vacation. I need one now…i leave in two weeks. yes. Hope yours was great!
Nothing better than a week at the beach. Loved the pics, looks like you all are having a blast.
OK… Jackson Hole Wyoming 1998- its where we went on our honeymoon and it was AWESOME. Mountains, nature, lakes, wildlife, river rafting, horseback riding, etc So want to take our girls back there when they are old enough to really enjoy it.
Next, Destin Florida. We take family trips there and we always have a lot of family who go together! FUN..
my favorite vacation was when i hired a tour guide to take me through the back roads of mexico. it was amazing and one day i hope to take my life there and settle. san miguel is just one of the magical cities that we visited. the others i am sure you have never heard of. i was there july 1984
we were in Orange Beach the week before. Great place to go for some R&R. I have to say that was my favorite vacation, because it was the first time our entire family has been on vacation with just the five of us. Hope you had a great time.
Kenya, if you ever have the chance, is an AMAZING vacation, especially if you have children! We went on safari and saw a lion eating a zebra, were charged by an elephant, and a lioness hunting warthogs, things you just don’t see at a zoo! We were there in 1996. If you can go anywhere in the world, this should be it!
I have so many great memories of trips to the beach with my parents all throughout my childhood. One of our best trips ever was in 1983 or ’84 to Vail, CO. As I stood on top of the mountain, I told my parents that I hoped heaven looked like that. I felt so close to God (and also so very scared because I had never skied before). What an awesome experience.
Another great trip was when Barry and I got married (called a weddingmoon b/c you do both the wedding and the honeymoon on the same trip) in 2003. We went to St.Lucia which is in the Carribean/West Indies. Georgeous and so relaxing!
We rang in the new year in Branson, MO in 2006. It is one of my favorite trips because it is one of the few we have taken that we have not gone to see family. We were only there for 3 days but the kids had fun hiking and enjoying nature.
Now in just a few weeks we are going to Orlando and staying in a condo and going to Disney. So I am sure that this will jump to the top of the list. But Orlando is where we are from and where our family lives so we go there every summer. But we don’t usually stay in a condo and we haven’t been to Disney in 4 years.
Hawaii last June with my wife.
Cruised to 4 amazing locations, weather was perfect and the time unforgetable.
Also got to meet amazing people and learn about a completely different culture right in our own back yard.
September 2004 and September 2005 my wife and I spent time in Jackson Hole, WY. This is by far the most beautiful place I have ever been.
