Trustworthy

Dr. Peter Wilson

As usual Father’s Day is a time for me to reflect not only on the kind of dad I want to be but also on the kind of dad my father was. I could list so many different characteristics about my dad, but there is one that really stands out to me.

In a word, it’s TRUSTWORTHY.

My dad is one of the most trustworthy people I know. When he says he’s going to be somewhere, he’s going to be there. When he says he’s going to do something, you can mark it down: he’s going to do it. Growing up I never had to worry or ever doubt my dad. I always knew he would be dependable, consistent, honest and reliable. This created a very safe environment for me to grow and mature into the man I am today.

I only pray that I will be as TRUSTWORTHY for my boys as my dad was for me.

Thanks, Dad. Happy Father’s Day.

What a lovely tribute…I wish I could tell my dad how much he means to me but he went to Heaven about 13 years ago. He was my daddy and I always held him in high esteem. I was an adult, in my middle years, when I found out a very “human” aspect of him and it was difficult to grasp. Finding out that our parents are very much like us…vulnerable and with flaws. But growing up, he made our home a steadfast place to be and I always will be grateful for the upbringing I had.

AMEN! I have a dad like that as well. I am blessed beyond belief but its only because God has transformed my dad. My dad wasn’t always a great dad but by God’s grace He is trustworthy, humble, giving, loving, kind, funny and a GREAT dad!

I had a dad. I know he wanted to be a really great dad… it just didn’t work out. Getting to know God is giving me the opportunity to understand why he’s not here today. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to be a dad. What a great reason to strive!

Thank you Pete…trustworthy does not mean a dad without faults or idiosyncracies. Good words about your dad.

Thank you to those who commented honestly and transparently. Many are unable to relate that you wrote ‘cos there are too many IRRESPONSIBLE adults who bring children into the world without giving a thought to the child’s well-being — only themselves! This happens in the church unfortunately. “The sins of the forebears are passed from generation to generation!”

I don’t know if there’s a better compliment a man could receive than that.

How great to have a Father who is trustworthy. I, too, have one who is completely honest and you can count on him no matter what. I know, by reading some of the other comments on your blog, that I am so very blessed to have an earthly Father like mine. Thank you, Lord!! And Happy Father’s Day to all of the great Dads out there!
