It Could Be Worse!
I know it stinks to be paying nearly $4 a gallon for gas, but the French are apparently paying almost double that at an average of $8.70 for a gallon . I wonder if that is where we are headed?
So how high do you think it will go? How high will it have to get before you start to make some radical changes?
Interested in saving some fuel and money? Here are couple of helpful sites:

This government-sponsored site provides side-by-side comparisons of fuel economy for most new cars, a fuel cost calculator, tips on reserving fuel, and the latest news on fuel prices. For instance, I learned on this site that you can burn half a gallon of gas just sitting still in your car for 30 minutes!
p.s. No, that is not my wife in the picture and no, that is not our car. Our mini-van is much cooler than that!

question…why we had kids (part 5)…was it so that you would have more feet to make the flintstone minivan go!!!
Right now in canada its S1.30 CAN per L.. so about $4.94 US per gallon
I hope it doesnt get too higher but it probably will..
It’s .12 a gallon in Venezuala….Freedom and liberty or fuel?
Some of the $$$ figures of the price of gas in European countries is
misleading. The governments of many countries heavily tax gas prices, but supply free health care for all citizens. If I were not paying the huge insurance costs I pay, $4 a gallon gas would be much more palatablr
I’m from the Netherlands and paid $8.37 a gallon today. Boo.
Holy cow Julia. That is crazy. I’m crying for you!
we british are paying £1.30 per litre at present
thats at 2 dollars to the pound $2.60 = $11.75 per UK gallon.
What kind of MPGs are you getting on your van? We’re about to upgrade with the third child on the way and its going to burn us at the pump. Just trying to do my homework.
I think it gets to 4.50 before the summer is out. One of the causes for the spike in gas and oil and it is often overlooked is China and India becoming players in the global economy. These are the two most populous countries and they have a lot of demand for oil. Of course the US could curb some of our dependency if they would be allowed to drill where there are reserves but the Dems do not want that.
It’s already over 4 here in FL.
I saw a Dodge Viper in the parking lot of my doc’s office today. Orange too. I drooled. I wanted to lean against it and take a self portrait. Dang! Off topic, but the pic you have on here made me think of that.

Creative stewardship. I believe the pressure at the pump should drive us to God. If we are not prevailing in changes of the gas prices through prayer then God might want us as christians to pray for creativity in our stewardship. Instead of complaining we could allow the pressure to cause us to evaluate how we spend or waste and how we can conserve. God can give us creative answers to our delimas. We as believers should have the answers before the world. Some our greatest inventions and ideas have come in times of crisis. I would encourage you to assess how you can do your driving or spending differently to save. Ask God to show you. Ask him for creative ideas.
I find that when I am still complaining, I am not despirate enough to be productive in my prayers or thinking. I’m not driven yet to do something, I’m just still irritated.
We need to get beyond irritated at the prices to creative and productive.
@ John Awesome challenge man. You’ve got me thinking.
Oh…..and thanks Pete for the link. Some great information there. Maybe people could comment here on some good ideas they have found to help them in these tight times.
AND brandi is MUCH cuter anyway!!!
I stopped eating.
Radical Change #1:
“Sure kiddo’s! I will be happy to run you all over Southwest Iowa. That will be $20, please…..from each of you!”
Um. Works for me.
Gas went out of my price range when it hit $3.40 a gallon. I am absolutely blessed to be working at Vanderbilt where I can take the bus to/from work for free. I haven’t driven my car to work in a month.
I drive my car a little on the weekends and now only have to fill up about once a month… so the savings is kinda of null when you look at what I originally budgeted for gas.
If you can take the bus, you should think about it. It’s better for your wallet and for the environment.
We are driving ALOT right as we are launching a church about 24 miles from our house. We have been that way each night for a while now painting and cleaning our future church. There is one family that feels led to join our launch but won’t come because of gas money. I feel bad that God is being put second to gas prices!! I just pray they get a new perspective on things. He’ll provide the money to get you there if it’s where God wants you.
My hubby…well, he may get a motorcycle or scooter to get him to work each day. 90 miles per gallon on the scooter…he may not look cool but..oh well! I think he’d give up looking cool for less money going out on gas each month!
I am currently living in Germany and thanking the Lord that we are able to buy our gas on the military base as it is 10.22 USD (with the liter to gallon conversion plus euro to USD) on the economy and 4.10 USD on the base.
Also wanted to say I really enjoy reading your blog.
The price of fuel is horrendous is it not? Here in Australia we pay $1.65 per litre. Doing some calculations that equates to $6.25 per gallon. They govern our oil prices here by what it sells for overseas – thing is we get all our oil/gas/petrol locally in Australia so it really does stink we have to pay so much for it.
@ sarah walston: ROFL – or well uh if you’re serious i’ll be calling 911. Nah, ROFL!! That was funny.

Does anyone remember the “gas crunch” in the 70′s??? They were so full of &*@# then and they are full of it now!! They are not fooling anyone…just like the “energy crisis” when we had to constantly turn lights out when you left a room….yeah…well, where did all the “new energy” all of a sudden come from? Oh, and the gas too…weren’t we just about OUT of gas?? I say we REVOLT…I don’t know how but I’m open to suggestions…this stuff makes me MAD and not just “kinda mad” but M A to the D – MAD!!! I complain ALL THE TIME and I hate that….I’m not a complainer…I’m a lover…teehee…. you HAD to get me started…again!!!
I’m telling you folks. Get yourself a Harley!
I paid $8.74 a gallon yesterday here in Tranås, Sweden.
I watch the news and wonder, while the talk is about the cost of crude oil, the weak dollar and fear cuasing problems – I think many people are out of touch with the reality of everyday life.
Gas prices are higher due to greed. Greed from opec, oil companies, speculators, business owners and so forth. yes, I believe things will get better – why, becuase the greedy will burn this sector out and move to the next new money making thing……
