I’m So Proud of This Church!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to serve alongside several hundred volunteers from Cross Point who gave up their Saturday to serve others. We invaded the Nashville Family Shelter with a desire to make a difference.

This particular shelter is the only one in our community equipped to house the entire family. Other shelters often have to split the family up. In addition to housing the families for a certain period of time, they also set up transitional housing for the families until the can get back up on their feet again.

Cross Point did a lot of painting, cleaning, landscaping, and organizing to the main shelter. We also had teams at a couple of the transitional homes doing construction. And last, but certainly not least, we had volunteers who watched the kids back at the church and teams that provided food for everyone at all the sites.

I love watching the church in action. I love watching the church live out their faith. I love watching people use their gifts and abilities to serve the under resourced. I love watching the church being the Body of Christ. I love Cross Point Church.

If you served I want to hear how it impacted you…leave me a comment!

I love being your pastor,

Pete

While I was watching(when I should have been working), a friend of ours asked me, “what are you laughing about”. I said, I’m always amazed at the diversity of our church. There we were, working side by side with a lawyer and a painter. I asked the fellow who turned out to be a painter, you must do this for a living, you’re better than the rest of us. His reply was priceless. He said, God gifts each one of us differently.

We all need to listen to that. All of us were there, with our different gifts, doing the same job. The job isn’t really painting and building playgrounds, if it was anyone could do it. It’s much larger. It is introducing Jesus to a world that needs Him desperately.

I’m honored to serve with each one of you guys.

Way to go Cross Point! You guys ROCK! What a great example of the church actually being the church!

I had the privilege of getting to hang out with 7 one and two year olds while their parents were working over at the shelter. Getting to observe their energy, sweet interactions with each other (learning to share!) and how free they are with their love (You know when they start backing up toward you, that they have decided that your lap is a place worth sitting in for a while!), was definitley inspiring to me.

I too am continuously amazed at the way Cross Point comes together to truly be an extension of God’s grace and love. I love being a part of this community!

I was in Nashville this past weekend and was hoping I could come visit…but I couldn’t get a later flight and had to fly out in the am.

It is amazing what a large group of people can accomplish in a short period of time. I was honored to serve with such a great group of people on Saturday. It is a privilege to get to be the hands and feet of Christ. I’d like to give a shout out to Bryn who headed up the painting team. She was a great leader. What an amazing church we have!!!! ROCK ON!!!

Doing the ADD thing and randomly reading WordPress blogs, and this was just a random ‘accidental’ visit to your blog, I realized what an impact blogging can have-esp for the church. I wasn’t even looking for this and I read it and was really touched by your church! What a great witness! Really wierd part? I live about an hour east of Nashville. Do you know how many blogs there are and happened on this one? Just had to comment…pray your blog ‘vines’ out more each day!
