Leadership at its Best- Part 1

This weekend at Cross Point I’m speaking about the topic of “discovering your calling”. One of the texts that I have been studying this week has been the first six chapters of Nehemiah. In doing so I have been reminded of what an incredible leader Nehemiah was. I have decided to do a series of blogs entitled “Leadership at its Best”. I hope you find this helpful. Here’s part one….  Discover Your Passion: Nehemiah 1:1-4 The very first thing I notice out of the life of Nehemiah is a broken-hearted passion to rebuild the wall and to protect the redemptive community of Israel.  Nehemiah was broken-hearted over what was happening to the Israelite community ,and he realized he had to do something. Leaders have to know what it is they are trying to accomplish. Leaders have to be consumed by a passion that can only be fueled by a God-given vision. What fuels your leadership? Where has your heart been broken over? Are you broken-hearted over the AIDS epidemic, over world hunger, over the state of the church in today’s culture? Is it people facing an eternity apart from God? What consumes you?  My passion is to lead churches into becoming ”radically devoted to Christ, irrevocably committed to one another and relentlessly dedicated to reaching the lost.” Whenever I see the church being anything less, my heart breaks. Creating these environments has become my life-long leadership passion. How about you?

My passion is to see church leaders lead with excellence, integrity and purpose. I’m burdened by the tremendous responsibility we have to lead people into life-changing relationships with Christ and feel passionate that the leaders of the church should be some of the strongest leaders period. We are working for the greatest cause – the cause of Christ – and He deserves nothing less than our best.

Nehemiah reminds us that God uses ordinary people for great things, when they have a burdened heart.

Made me get out my old copy of “Hand Me Another Brick.”

    Thanks.
